Kana Muramoto (Japanese: 村元 哉中 Muramoto Kana), born March 3, 1993 in Akashi, Hyōgo, Japan, is a Japanese figure skater and ice dancer. Muramoto and her current partner, Chris Reed (Japanese: クリス リード), born July 7, 1989 in Kalamazoo, Michigan, USA, are the three time Japanese champions in ice dance. The team parted ways in August 2018.

With former ice dance partner Hiroichi Noguchi, Kana is the 2014–15 Japanese national bronze medalist. As a singles skater, she is the 2011 Triglav Trophy silver medalist and the 2011 Crystal Skate of Romania bronze medalist.

Kana is the younger sister of retired figure skater, Satsuki Muramoto.

On June 17, 2015, Muramoto teamed up with Chris Reed, to compete in ice dance for Japan. Chris Reed and his sister Cathy Reed are seven times Japanese ice dance champions (2008, 2009, 2010, 2011,, 2013, 2014, and 2015) and represented Japan at the 2010 and 2014 Olympics. Following the 2015 World Team Trophy, Cathy Reed had announced her retirement, leaving Chris Reed with a choice of whether to search for another partner or not. It is clear that Chris and Kana were lucky to find each other!

The new team of Muramoto and Reed had a great debut season, earning higher scores than Reed and Reed ever did. Together, the duo are the 2015–16 Japanese national champions, and have earned technical scores that have qualified them to compete at the 2016 World Championships in Boston, Massachusetts, USA, an impressive achievement for a team who had been together for such a short time.

At 2016 Four Continents, Chris and Kana finished in seventh place overall, only behind three American and three Canadian teams. In fact the duo finished ahead of the third ranked Canadian team, Paradis and Ouellete, in sixth place in the Free Dance segment of the competition, a surprising and encouraging result. They totally did not disappoint at 2016 Worlds. They performed with charm and brilliance , achieving the TES scores for the next Worlds and finishing in fifteenth overall! A great Worlds debut.

The team's 2017-2018 Olympic season started promisingly when Kana and Chris earned the silver medal at 2017 Nebelhorn Trophy and thus earned a 2018 Olympic berth in ice dance for Japan.

They won the bronze medal at 2018 Four Continents, Japan's first ever ISU championship medal!

I really like this team! Chris is a lucky guy to have an opportunity to skate with such a great lady that Kana is :luv17: I think they have some potential and I realy hope they will get Asian Ice Dance to another level. And maybe raise popularity in Asia as they deserve as much attention as single skaters :cheer: Also it would make the field more interesting internationally ;)

I'll always regret that Cathy & Chris never managed to reach their full potential, despite being such a lovely duo...
So, now, I really hope that the new dancing pair will be able to do it. Finishing 7th at 4CC was really a good result in my book. I have good hope for them in the future. 😊

Their free skate was so light and Charming at worlds. They got a partial standing O and prolonged cheering from the audience, despite being in the first warmup group. Chris was obviously thrilled with their performance too. Kana projects to the crowd really really well, and Chris does a great job of presenting her.

I look forward to seeing their programs next season!!

So surprised and happy that Japan has such a promising pair. Kana is a star, and Chris seems to have a new bounce in his step.

Yes, I feel like something clicks with him and her in a way it just didn't between him and Cathy. He and Cathy obviously really struggled technically but I think that just as crucially they struggled on some level to really connect with their programs/the audience and to emote. He's almost like a whole new skater with Kana.
