Kanako Murakami

Any chance of her getting the TBD spot at NHK TROPHY this year??

I am a long time fan of Figure Skating..but new to all this so forgive me I don't know a lot..yet

I fell in love with her first program senior competition where she wowed everyone...I understand she has had some growing pains since then...

I will be in Japan in Nov and just applied for a ticket to NHK!

Given that Kanako has already been assigned to SC and TEB, it is impossible that she'll get the TBD at NHK (the maximum # of assignments each competitor can get is 2)
But another chance to watch Kanako's skating live is at 2015 U.S. International Figure Skating Classic (SLC, Sept 16-20), as her name is currently listed in the entry:

It's good that Kanako is going for a Senior B/CS competition. I think it's a win-win choice for her, so she can gather some more points for the ranking and get a bye to the regional competition.

So most likely her competitions for the 1st half of the season will be: US International Classic->SC->TEB->(GPF?)->Japan Nationals

Thanks for the info. By the way, what are regional competitions? Do skaters need to participate in regional ones?

Large federations such as Canada, Japan, Russian, and US should have regional competitions, since they could not accommodate everyone in their national. I'm not sure how China or Italy handle their internal competitions.

Usually, if the skaters are assigned to international competitions around the same time as their regional competitions, they get byes from the regionals.

I see. Thank you, seabm7! I remember seeing somewhere that if a skater gets a good placement in Japan Nationals, he/ she can go into the National next year directly without participating in regionals. But Kanako only got 5th last year, so I am not sure if she needs to get into regionals first...
It is said Mao would have needed regionals to get into JN, but thanks to JO, she now get away from regionals.
Still, I haven't figured out how they work with regionals and nationals...

It works basically like this (in Japan, based on info from last year):
As default, the skater has to go through these local competitions and placing within tops in order to qualify for the National:
Regionals (held during the end of Sept to mid Oct, 6 regions in total) --> Sectional (held at the end of Oct, 2 Sections)--> National (late Dec.)

These are the conditions for the skater to get a bye to the local competitions:
1. Placing within top 3 at last year's National
2. Assigned to an international competition (like GP/JGP/CS/SeniorB...etc.) held around the regional/sectional

Sectional is usually not a problem. But regionals are held earlier, usually from end of Sept to mid-Oct. For example, Kanako is from Aichi and has to participate in the 'Chubu' regional, which will be held during Sept 25-27 this year. Since she's not invited to JO this year, participating in US International Classics should give her a bye to the regional.

Now I see! Thank you for solving my long-time question. :o:

According to my friend's translation, here are some interesting facts: Kana has a sister who is 6 years older than her. She has been to the ice rink very often when she was still in baby cart because her sister practiced skating. When she grew up a bit and began learning skating, in contrast to others who were training very hard on ice, she just liked to sit on the ice building snowman and excitedly yelled out aloud.
Kanako ate some local fish before her competition at Jr. Worlds and got serious stomach pain there. She was in pain during the whole practice and competition but managed to win gold. Kenji asked her if Yuzu ate that fish as well, she said he didn’t (smart Yuzu!).

Just watched Kenji's room, they talked about Kanako's miserable (but a bit funny) experience at JWC, and Yuzu said Kanako is baka. He is straight-forward regarding his old friend. :laugh2::laugh2:

I still find her music cuts weird but she gives an amazing performance. The step sequence is simply amazing.

Kanako's FS: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x-a5Hm4z050

The music is Sayuri. It looks like she's still in the 'pre-season' mode. But there are some nice movements in the program. Hope she can get it better!

Thanks. I like the music choice and the costume but she still didn’t seem to connect with the music. Also the colors of her costume somehow don’t fit the program imo or simply is the color(s) not for her ? (probably more light colors, yellowish or pinkish, fit for her and the LP ) but maybe it is just me.

It’s still the very beginning of the season I also hope that she does get it well.

ETA : I mean these colors may fit more on her and her LP. (though it's kinda similar to her last season's SP) or ( the light blue of the upper part will look her face bright)

I actually quite like her current costume and it fits the theme.

As for the costumes that you suggest, all of them looks beautiful. And I like the forth costume the best. I think Kana-chan likes blue color as well. She wears this color often (Swan lake, Violin Concerto in E minor, Op. 64, papa can you hear me, and this time Sayuri). And blue suits her well.

Personally, I hope she can just get something like this costume of Miki, which Miki actually allowed her to wear temporarily at ice shows. She is stunningly beautiful in this costume. Not for her LP of course, it is not Japanese style. But maybe for future programs.

She is stunning with that Miki's costume and the hairdo. now I don't know which is better for her long hair or short hair
and about "the costume color doesn't fit her" thing , maybe it was just due to the lighting of the rink? I don't know  as it looks better in photos.
