Kanako Murakami

Well, Skate America went as expected from her: she has so many problems that still aren't fixed, and those programs aren't doing her any favor.
At this point, I think Kanako is only skating for herself, not because she wants to win, but because she simply loves the sport. Of course, she could just retire and do shows instead (like Machida does, between his college courses), but she still "likes" competitions, it seems, even though she does not have the competitive fire of her teammates (she lost it quite a while ago). Poor girl.

My poor Kanako. I hope she will find her fighting spirit again. Hitting those boards and smiling all through. In the meantime I'll just rewatch her SP from 2013 Worlds. Such a beautiful program.

Redemption time in Russia? I guess, where Shoma goes, Kanako must go but I doubt she'll have much of a chance in this tight of a field. *sigh*

Realistically I no longer expect her in a position for the podium contention, but her lack of her usual sparkles at Skate America made me sad. The field of Rostelecome is relatively weaker than Skate America, so I think she will get a better placement though.

I hope she can at least channel that positive expression she has in her private persona onto the ice again. Even if she'll never be at the top again, I want her to smile and show us a great emotional program. I think she would be a great show skater, she has so much expression. I hate to see her scared face on the ice when she was always so enthusiastic and in 'attack' mode before. I don't really care about underrotations as long as she doesn't go through the motions.

You made this? must have taken a lot of time, good to see her big smiles in the video.
Even if she lost some competitive fire this time, in my impression she was not as bad as she was scored  I hope to see Kanako on fire again she looks splendid when she is really on!

Yep, I made this. Actually didn't take much time as I thought. Right after Kanako's personal worst performance at SA, I came across this music - Victory by Two Steps From Hell. This music is so inspiring and I immediately wanted to make a video of Kana using it. I want to let her know that though she is only 21, she has come a long way overcoming various obstacles and achieving many good results during all these years. She should be proud of herself and never forget her innate fighting spirit. Victory can still be achieved even if we are just two steps from hell.

Kana looks more like herself tonight at COR than SA. Love the bright red color of her costume and her make up. Could’ve added more faces and smile during the skate especially when she is approaching the judges. Much better biellmann spin this time, great speed and nice flexibility. Great height on 2A. I think as her left ankle injury gradually recovered from last season, her 2A will become more and more stable from now on. As for triple jumps, I feel her air position this season is much tighter. She just needs a little more height now to make those jumps fully rotated.

As for the music choice, the first time I heard it was at that challenge competition pre-season and I just can't describe how awful it sounds to me. The second time was at SA, still no positive feeling about it. But this time, I feel the cheerfulness of the music especially the second half (still no comment for the first half though). So I think gradually, as Kana's performance and interpretation improves during the season, we can begin to feel better about the music.

Happy Birthday. I'm so glad that Kanako seems to be a positive person and doesn't put her self-esteem and personal value on the success she has in her sport. There is so much more to life.

Happy Birthday Kanako! The picture is adorable and exudes her vivacious personality. Hope to see her pull her strength together at Nationals or other events.
