Kazuki Tomono

He introduced himself (he called himself a 3rd year student now!), congratulated the new students, and gave an advice, saying something along the line of "find something, whatever suits you, but you need to find at least one thing to work on (to achieve) during your university life" and wished them to enjoy their student life. It didn't look like he was prepared enough for this shooting, he made a lot of speech errors and quite a bit of repetitions which probably makes it even harder for you to catch what he's saying.

Awww thanks for the summary, Tsurara! The new students are lucky to have such a kind and inspiring senpai :luv17:

Remember he practices at the NTC rink (in Chukyo univ) on weekends? He was probably preparing for Kyoto Festival and ice shows too! But yeah, I guess you're right, maybe they were watching it together! (Many fans and some media reported that a lot of Jp skaters showing up in Saitama Super arena to cheer skaters, but I didn't find Sota in any of them.)

Thank you for the explanation, I didn't know Kazuki practices in Chuukyou as well! AFAIK, it's Shoma's main rink, isn't it? Good to know the 3 buddies can meet there. :)
Do we know if Kazuki was at Worlds in person?

My very first post in this thread ;) Maybe I should have explained a bit more on it.
And here is an article published last spring on yahoo where he mentioned practicing at Chukyo univ on weekends. (I googled just to make sure lol)
Chukyo(or chuukyou) university's Aurora Rink is designated as NTC, the National Training Center, for figure skating as part of Japan Olympic Committee's Gold Plan, and Japan's selected top skaters (called 強化選手: the list of the skaters is here in 3 groups, and they get funded) can train there on weekends, iirc, all for free, accommodation included...but I may be wrong. Our government is planning a bill to build a new NTC complex for all the winter sports athletes somewhere (either near Tokyo or in Hokkaido), but I think it's way easier for Tomono-kun to get to Toyota, relatively closer to Kansai area. Sota's home rink is Howa in Nagoya, but I believe he also uses Chukyo on weekends. Chukyo univ also has a sub-rink called Rainbow rink for figure skating only.

I don't think Tomono-kun was in Saitama for worlds, and like KiraraChin said, I believe he was in Chukyo univ, likely with some other skaters like Sota and Ryuju kun, too, maybe, but no confirmation. If he was in Saitama, I'm sure someone would have caught sight of him.

Thanks for the info, Tsurara! :agree:
I agree, I don't think Kazuki was in Saitama. I know some other Japanese skaters were there in the audience, he would have appeared in at least some of the pics if he was there.

On a different note, did you guys see he got a lot of nice practice gear from his sponsor Central Sports? https://www.instagram.com/p/BvdnClCBAnI/

Also, he made the headlines by commenting on Nathan Chen's post about ramen... His love for ramen is notorious!
https://twitter.com/editor_spread/status/1110501502580187136
'Nathan Chen enjoyed Japan ramen!
As soon as you post, you'll be able to respond to that person. https://spread-sports.jp/archives/23652 If you post a figure to eat ramen, of course "that person" is not quiet...'

And then the article itself is only half about Nathan (Google Translate)
Seeing such a post by Chen, figure skater Kazuno Tomono responds immediately. It can be confirmed that "I like it" in a short time after posting and a comment with four pictograms of applause is left.

Actually, Tomono is famous as a big ramen lover. I have eaten ramen as often as I put a sentence of “almost just a ramen account.” In the self-introduction written in my own Instagram account, and I post photos.

The content posted by Mr. Chen this time also responds quickly, whether he felt something similar to his own instagram. A voice of surprise and praise was received from the fans as Tomono demonstrated his favorite ramen taste.

Related headlines: 'Ramen-loving Kazuki Tomono appears at the opening ceremony of the All Japan Championship with a ramen-patterned tie' and '【Sasuga】 Ramen-like Kazuno Tomono posted a photo of instant ramen after reporting the end of the tournament' :laugh2:

Ah, thanks for the explanation! Just to be sure, NTC is the same rink as the Toyota center? I'd imagined there was only one rink at Chuukyou, and was surprised to hear of the existence of the Rainbow rink.
Eh, does Kazuki like other meals beyond ramen? I've just had this vision of myself hunting for suitable presents if Kazuki ever participated in a competition I could go to, and ramen-themed stuff is practically impossible to find here in central Europe...

It's getting confusing for me too!
As far as I know (mind you, I may be wrong!) Toyota Sports Center in Toyota city does not have an ice rink. (But Toyota Center in LA does, right?) I think Shoma uses the rinks in Chukyo univ mainly now but not sure. NTC (National Training Center) for figure skaters is the same rink as Aurora rink in Chukyo university. NSC (Nagoya Sports Center, also known as Osu rink) in Nagoya was/is his home rink for long. Rainbow rink, right next to Aurora rink in Chukyo univ was built for Mao a decade or so ago and it's a small rink, but with huge mirrors, great for choreo. I'm not sure if non-students can use it or not. There are quite a few ice rinks in/near Nagoya, so Shoma can always rent other rinks privately too, and it's probably better to ask Shoma's dedicated fans about his main rink. I hear that skaters in/near Nagoya often use more than one rinks, and I can never tell which rinks are their main ones.
And my bad, my clock for Sota kinda stopped once, still recalling him as a high school student and I always forget that he's also a Chukyo univ student now.

He said he's open to any food, as in バカ舌! That said, strawberry or otter or ...dunno. I do remember Tomono-kun once said eating Tsuna-mayo onigiri was just out of convenience when he's busy and not particularly his favorite, though. I'm sure someone else has a better idea.

Saw this post of Kazuki and another skater friend attending "An American In Paris" show

 It's like a parody to #パリのアメリカ人. Oh well, this Osaka trait will never wear off.

Hahaha Rest assured! Ramen is his passion, but he likes all types of food! I remember he seemed pretty happy with the big hamburger plushie he got at 4CC (even mock-ate it). But the other two things the fans associate with him the most are strawberries (because he drank strawberry sake to celebrate his 20th birthday) and otters (because once he posted a pic with an otter plushie). I'm sure those two themes are easier to find in Europe, especially the strawberries ;)

Thanks all for the updates and explanations ^^

Yes, he posted on his own insta too! https://www.instagram.com/p/Bvg2zAHBPwh/ It seems that he was invited?
So nice to see him relaxed and enjoying himself with his friend, hope he enjoyed the show!

Yeah, it looks like Tomono-kun got invited to the musical and he invited Sion-kun(lives in Tokyo area) to go with him.
Buuut, no ramen in Yokohama...!? :noshake:

ETA: Speaking of Yokohama, Uni-san uploaded last year's PIW.

Omg how is it that I just found out about this today?!?

I know, right? The thing is, he posted and deleted it soon afterwards, maybe he wanted to post because he was touched but then realised he was giving away his location... I'm grateful to the kind soul who caught it and posted on Twitter!

Thanks, Tsurara! It's so nice to see that they still remember Kazuki's programme, and he got to spend time in Tokyo with his friend! But you're right, there is a distinctive lack of ramen update... :noshake:

Awww love these photos! He looks so happy!
I'm pleased he's attempting the 4T in public, he must be more confident with the jump, now!

Yeah, it is important to keep trying it in shows. Although it is not always the best ice, trying it with music and with audience is a very important thing to be able to do it at competitions.

Some fans on Twitter says that he was trying 4S as well in the program but doubled it and they assume he is targetting adding the 2 quads with the 4S in a compo in his SP for next season!!! Not sure how I feel if that is the case but I really hope he faces less problems with his jumps next season.

And here are more pictures from the festival

I wanted to ask, how the points for the world standings are calculated?

Always gets confused at the standings so would appreciate if you help me understand :scratch2:

Thanks! :luv17:

Yes, I agree, trying the 4T in shows is a good idea. It normally takes skaters quite a few tries before they can land a new jump in competition, so getting used to do it in public hopefully will make it easier for him when the new season starts!

On other news, he was doing some recruitment for his university's figure skating club

I'm sure he's attracted a lot of students (and their mothers)! The problem for many who would love to be recruited is, they first have to be Doshisha students and it's not easy to pass the entrance exam to be one lol

But, :hopelessness: Tomono kun, please learn how to hold a kitty! (Or give me the context of how he ended up holding the plushy like that!)
