I just think of Jason and Rika immediately but I’m willing to add Kazuki to that list.

Agreed, we should judge when we've seen the finished product. I'm sure Kazuki and his team are aware of the famous Riverdance renditions, and will do their best to make Kazuki's stand out. Maybe they'll even create a signature move for Kazuki in the process? :)

New Kazuki interview, from here: https://tomonokazuki.tumblr.com/pos...tion-of-kazukis-interview-from-kisscrys#notes

Please tell me your goals for this year’s senior training camp.

Tomono: I think because I’m in an environment that’s different from usual, I think I am able to grow. Overall, I want to absorb new motivation

Have you decided on a free program?

Tomono: The music for my free skate is “Riverdance” and I will probably debut it at THE ICE. It contrasts with my short program music “Cinema Paradiso”, but I think I can make it come together. The step and choreo sequences expressing the outlook of the music are the things I want to see most.

In regards to the free skate, what approach are you taking?

Tomono: “Riverdance” is a score I’ve liked for a long time, and I’ve watched a lot of tap dancing videos. There’s lots of footwork, and it’s difficult to blend and balance with skating, but I think it would be nice to express the world view of the music on the ice.

The free skate performance time has gone from 4:30 to 4:00 right?

Tomono: Though it’s 30 seconds shorter, the jump (composition) has only decreased by one. It feels tightly packed, it’s become non-stop performing until the end. Since it’s unknown territory, I haven’t grasped the flow of the program yet, from here I’d like to gain experience from competitions and the like. It’s very tough (lol), I think stamina will be a challenge.

Please expand on what you feel is “unknown territory”.

Tomono: The balance of powerful moves, the jumps being reduced by 1, and the range of combinations has expanded. As well, the GOE range has expanded (with the rule amendment). I’d like to attempt more difficult jumps but….. Is it better to focus on “quality” or to take on more quads, the balance is difficult. I’ve just completed my free skate, and I’ve never practiced it with the full jump layout, so I’m not sure, but even with out jumps it’s tough. Since I have to decide (which one to emphasize) while practicing, I still don’t know.

Please tell me your goals for this season.

Tomono: I just want to do my best at every competition. Because I’m still not complete as a skater, I’m practicing now with the feeling that I should show more growth. (Following last season) this season I also want to make great strides. Since I intend to take on practice this season with the readiness of a senior representative, of course I need to “challenge”, but in order to make the most of the two Grand Prix assignments I earned, I would like to have a season that demonstrates that my results from last year weren’t an accident.

After your result at Worlds, your profile increased in a big way. Has that changed things?

Tomono: (The attention) has been a really good kind of pressure. From here on while I’m growing, it will be necessary to participate in competition while receiving attention, to get a lot of attention like this, I can truly feel my development. I want to think positively (about being noticed) and enjoy competitions.

It seems that Kazuki performed his Riverdance at today's 'The Ice'! The reports I've seen were overwhelmingly positive, and he is using a different music cut than Jason and Rika!

Daft Punk EX at The Ice: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ETBiohgo_cQ

Very fun! I am a huge Daft Punk fan, so this was great to watch.

I'm eager to see Riverdance. :)

Thank you, Mrs P! I love this EX.

The reports from the show said Riverdance was amazing and that Kazuki was incredibly entertaining and put a lot of emotion into the program. He also landed his 4S!

Here's the costume he was wearing: https://twitter.com/sn_figure/status/1025709964721975296?s=19
Not sure if it's the final costume yet, but it seems simple and elegant. I'm just worried his trousers are too tight :p

Hi everyone, it is my first time posting here and in the forum in general!!

I came across this forum by chance and started reading some threads then was happy to find a thread for Kazuki who I was happy to discover through his break through performance in the worlds and after reading all your posts here I decided to join too since I am really excited to witness this young man's growth journey

Still taking my baby steps in the Figure Skating world, I can't really judge technicalities or talent but I really feel happy when I watch Kazuki skate and didn't get tired rewatching his programs. He sure have an appeal and character that hopefully will shine more in future and generally I hope you excuse my ignorance of many things that might be basics to many ^^

I know about Kazuki assignments of this season in "Lombardia Trophy", "Rostelecom Cup" and "Skate Canada" but just discovered today about his participation in "Gensan Summer Cup" held next weekend (10~13 Aug) :yahoo: Even though it is a small competition but I am super excited and hope he do well debuting his new programs in his first competition of the season.

Welcome, AQFS! How nice that you chose Kazuki's fanfest for your first post in this forum! :agree: I agree, Kazuki has an extremely good connection with the audience: it's obvious he loves them, and they love him back  He's a great showman as well. Him and Misha are a good match, personality-wise, so the choreo for Riverdance (Misha's doing that one too, right?) should really be something.
Kazuki should win Shiga easily; I looked up the other sr men participants, and only vaguely recognize Takeuchi. That would mean 1 week = 1 favorite of mine wins a competition. Last week - Sota, this week - Ryuju, next week - most likely Kazuki. What a great start of the season! :)

Thanks Surimi :)

About Riverdance, as I read here in the thread, the choreo is by Misao Sato. Misha is doing his SP only.

I can see that Kazuki is surely challenging himself this season which is something I really like. "New Cinema Paradise" is a great and beautiful music but it also has so much new emotions he didn't get to express before in his previous programs, also it doesn't have that fast or dance part that could connect the viewers so it all depends on how he can connect with them through the emotions he expresses. I watched how he performed it on DOI and I already like it a lot but I hope he came to polish it since then. I hope to see him soften his expressions in some parts and also feel more at ease in his movements and transitions.

For Riverdance, it is almost on the opposite side from the SP. It will have a lot of hard foot steps to really express the beauty of the fast Irish dance. I really hope he does a good job with this program. As KiraraChin mentioned, I also read many good reviews about the program from the people who saw "The ICE". I am so looking forward to watch it and was honestly quite sad that they didn't select it among the programs that they showed from the show :(

From this tweet, seems the edit include 3 songs from the Riverdance sound track and it mentions that the last part was really so fast that it was hard to clap properly with the rhythm :D
https://twitter.com/Macha_FS/status/1025988359892623361

The songs are:

Reel Around The Sun (I think the dance part in it)

Caoineadh cu Chulainn
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vDyMFP6yzfk

Riverdance (I think the drums part)

Also this tweet mentioned his jumps layout in the show

Hi! Welcome, and thank you for the info! I didn't know there were so many cuts in Riverdance, but then he did West Side Story which had lots of cuts as well.

Incidentally, I read a report on Twitter about his Riverdance costume: The shirt is moss green but it sparkles as he moves to create a pretty emerald-like effect. If that's true, no wonder they kept the design simple!

I think Kazuki's strategy for this season is very smart! Being "experimental" (for him) with his SP, while keeping the energetic style with his FP. That way, he can get new fans without alienating the old ones ;)

Aaaah Good luck to Kazuki on the Gensan Summer Cup! And Good luck to us findings videos from this competition :)

I agree about his strategy for the season. Hopefully it works well for him. I was really happy to know he is going to Gensan Summer Cup since I do think it is good to try himself in such small competitions since it may help him tune his performance and see how he will be graded before his next bigger ones. Lets pray we really can get a chance to see his performance there

About Riverdance costume, although I do like it but I would have appreciated if they added more work into the simple belt or used different material for the pants to give it more effect like the original Riverdance show costumes. It is obviously inspired from the costume of the Riverdance lead dancer in the following pictures but thankfully it is not as transparent :)

Also I found in twitter that the version Kazuki uses for "New Cinema Paradise" is this

https://itunes.apple.com/jp/album/ニュー-シネマ-パラダイス-テーマ曲-愛のテーマ/901607369?i=901607542

I really love this version so much, it may be my favorite of this music.

Thanks for the links! LOL I'm glad he didn't go for the see-through shirt look
I guess you're right about the trousers, it kinda looks like they recycled the one from West Side Story? Or maybe they will add more details as the season goes on...

I'd say last season Kazuki kept his costumes relatively simple and it worked well for him, so the ones for this season don't bother me too much.

BTW, I saw Kazuki episode in "Friends +" program which aired on 6/8, the MC was Shizuka Arakawa

Of course I didn't understand anything  but was happy to see him talk so much about his skating history and they also showed some pictures and videos of him when young. He was quite cute when he was embarrassed to do some dance movements from his programs or say some words during the breaks of the program  But the most interesting part for me is when they started talking about his precious items and he showed his skates, they talked a lot about them, the brand, the maintenance..etc and I really wished to understand what they were talking about.

On the other hand, this is the video and translation of his interview after DOI performance (thanks to the blogger for all the translations and news) happy to know he got some encouragement words from Scott :)
https://tomonokazuki.tumblr.com/post/176629075977/so-in-a-possibly-ill-advised-move-i-decided-to

Also this is translation of his opinion along side Shoma and Yuzuru when asked about the new rules

LOL on Kazuki's pose with the skirt!! The man is so into it

I read on twitter that the shirt he wore in that skirt picture was actually a gift from a fan

I also saw this short video from his episode in Kenji's room. As per some tweets, seems the question was "What would you do on the last day of the Earth?" His answer was "Will do what I usually do and go confess to the person I like". How cute is that!!! (P.S. I just used translator to understand so the translation might be incorrect)

https://twitter.com/yuka_yo1/status/1027085632777142272

I think the episode can be re-broadcasted on 12/8 (that will surely be a busy day )

Great pose for Kazuki, like a real ballet dancer. ^ ^ He knows how to rock makeup and skirts, lol. OTOH, Shoma's batman-donkey-mix type of headwear in that photo is slightly creepy O_O

Yeah, I have to say, at least in this photo, Kazuki's drag game is better than Shoma's! :laugh2:
