Kazuki Tomono

BTW, this is a video of interview with Kazuki at his last competition in Intercollegiate but seems it is only available in Japan so I was not able to see it pesonally

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_RF5sK4yPr0

I didn't know Fuji sports tv's official videos were only available inside Japan...Well, I made a rough translation, but there are some parts I couldn't hear well. (Quite poor audio they've got for this interview, or maybe Tomono-kun was too exhausted and worn out to speak up.)

***

Looking back at FS

To be honest, (my issue is) landing the other jumps, loop and flip, as well as axel, rather than quads. Throughout the season, most of my jumps didn’t get additional points (+GOE) and what I need to work on is to land them clean. Also, my skating and spin aren’t yet, well, actually they are really rough. Those things really (are my problems). I feel that myself as I skate too. So, somehow, I need to…, you know, I'm like, why can’t I skate more like a top skater.

About In-Colle

In-Colle is an exciting competition for me. It’s fun, but even when it’s fun, you also feel that you can’t lose. I like watching other skaters, and I also want to value the friendship between skaters. It’s a great game where you can watch the last serious performances by senpais who have done a lot for you. It was the last In-Colle for my senpais who have done a lot for me, and most of the freshman (sophomore?) teammates were there too. So that too made me want to do it well, by focusing on my own performances. It’s a competition with a different atmosphere. Or at least this is how I (see it and) take part in it. Other international games are my games I do for myself, but In-Colle is more for schools and..(a long silence from Tomono, with big cheers echoing around in the background) It has its own beauty, I think.

Future objectives

I want to reach the level of World's 5th place (laugh) and aim higher. I want to polish and improve myself a lot more to be more like a top skater, or actually to become a top skater. Every single competition makes me realize a lot (of issues) and I’m glad I took part in this. I want to go positive about it, and for the upcoming 4CC too, in order to improve my weak points even for a little bit, I want to raise the quality of each element. I need to focus on the current components I have (in the programs), and I want to raise the levels of each of them one by one.

Thanks a lot, Tsurara for the translation

Actually not all their videos are like that. I watched the interviews during the nationals normally.

Here is the video uploaded on IG, thanks to the always kind soul 1227capricorn :luv17:

Also this is video of team japan arrival to USA, a quick glimpse of Kazuki at the start.

Thanks! Apparently I misheard a bit on that video and misread a bit on the arrival news too :palmf: I'll correct them after I get back home from work today!

And a quick update: Here is another bit of news that came up this morn, that says Tomono-kun and Keiji-kun both were landing successful (said "highly accurate") 4 Sal during their 3 hours' practice last night (4th).

and I also want to value the leisure between skaters (Note: This is the phrase Tomono-kun used, but I think it is about to share the enjoyment by participation to build relationships).

 I'm sooo sorry, he said "友情/yuujoo" and definitely not "レジャー/leisure" awww my ears...:bang:
So, this part should have been "I also want to value the friendship between skaters"
I know, I know, "leisure" sounded so weird and I thought I had to add a note. I guess my brain wasn't working :noshake:
I'll correct it soon, just saying here so that you don't have to re-read the whole thing again. (And I can't find 'strike-through' here. If there is, please let me know, would make it a lot easier for me to correct things later!)

ETA: And also, where I couldn't hear, "I want to reach the level of World's 5th place (laugh) and aim higher." He laughed, probably because he doesn't think he deserves that title or something.

Also, about my misreading the news article, I didn't realize that Rika flew to LA alone, but Mai and Kaori were with Keiji and Tomono, and I had messed up with a bit of the timeline there because of the time difference.

To summarize, Shoma was there(Toyota's rink in LA) earlier as you probably knew (and joined them later), Mai, Kaori, Keiji and Tomono arrived in LA together, unknown what after their arrival, then Rika arrived alone and went straight to the rink. Then, in two hours and a half after Rika's arrival, Shoma(Edited again, it wasn't Keiji, but Shoma), Tomono, and Rika joined and had practice together for about an hour on Feb 3rd (US time). On Feb 4th, Team Japan had practice for about 3 hours, except for Shoma who rested. (No news on their whereabouts on 5th yet, all I saw was about Japanese Pair being withdrawn, due to Kihara's injury during practice on 4th.)

And here is a bit weird thing.
Hochi said:
"男子の田中刑事(24)=倉敷芸術科学大学大学院=と友野一希(20)=同大=は精度の高い4回転サルコーを決めていた",
meaning, Keiji and Tomono landed successful (highly accurate) 4 Sals, but
Sanspo's article this afternoon said:
"男子の田中刑事(倉敷芸術科学大大学院)と友野一希(同大)はともに4回転サルコーの修正に努めた"
meaning they were trying to correct their 4 Sals, like their quads weren't successful. Were they both watching the same thing at the same time? Who knows...

I checked Fuji's midnight news tonight, but it was all about "generation switch", showing Russian girls, and Boyan and Zhou, etc, no news at all about JP male skaters (if my brain was working right tonight, that is.)

Thanks, everyone, for the updates and especially THANK YOU Tsurara for the translations and explanations!
AAAAAAAHHHHHH 4CC is so close now! I keep telling myself that if he finishes in the Top 8, it will be a good result. I don't want to expect too much, because every time I did so, he ended up not doing so well (silly superstition, I know!) :drama:

At least from the practice notes, it seems he's in good form!

PS- Also, Tsurara, no problem at all if you call him 'Tomono-kun'! ;)

You are not alone in that, I always try to do the same to not expect much. But try to eat Noodles or Strawberry as a way to wish him luck (saw many Japanese fans do that and started following the tradition when I can)

Report on his second practice today (5th Feb) (That is a weird jump layout for the run-through though??)

https://twitter.com/rockerskating/status/1092939806689058816

Also seems that in their morning practice, a fire alarm was activated but they still continued to skate and the session was extended for 10 mins to make up for that

Did you guys see Kazuki's Instastory earlier today?
https://ibb.co/D8L96xP
I didn't know, but it's a baseball stadium for the Los Angeles Angels, the team of a very famous Japanese player (Shohei Ohtani)! It's really nice to know that Kazuki has other interests outside skating :)

BTW, here are some practice pics!

ETA: Kazuki's practice notes! It seems he was really struggling with his 3A, but managed to get a relatively clean run-through... https://twitter.com/rockerskating/status/1093255364424790016

Thank you for all the updates!

Maybe I’ll try to make a trip to this ramen place named “ichiban ramen” if I have time but it’s on the other side of my city... there’s only “hachiban ramen” near my house

A quick glimpse at Kazuki in practice session in news, why he is so cute!! :o:

May be this is a good oportunity/reason to go (if you have the time) and don't forget to post a picture with this hashtag if you did it :) #ラーメン食べて友野選手を応援 (The hashtag fans use on twitter to support Kazuki while they eat Ramen and this is the one they use for strawberry #いちごを食べて友野選手を応援)

AAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHH I'm pretty much dying with so much quality Kazuki content :love::love:

Just wanted to share as well that a girl who's volunteering at 4CC told me Kazuki is just incredibly adorable and sweet to all the volunteers! :luv17:

I won't be able to watch him today, but please cheer on him for me!

That boy really deserves the world.

Good luck, Kazuki! I won't be able to watch either, but fingers crossed he nails everything!
BTW I knew about ramen and some mayo rice balls or other as Kazuki's good luck charms, but what's this about strawberries? What did I miss?

Thanks for the inside info Kirara :agree: Kazuki is so precious :luv17:

In his ABC interview, Kazuki mentioned he likes strawberries milk sake so fans always relate strawberries to him now in addition to Ramen of course  I didn't hear about the Mayo Rice Balls before though

Praying hard for him today  I can stay up although I would be so anxious to watch live still !!

Thank you for telling me about the hashtag! Will definitely do if I have the time to go... ahhhh I will try my best to go before the free T.T

Is it strawberry milk sake or strawberry milk shake? because the two would totally give different images

Anytime is redemption time! I believe in Kazuki!!:cheer:

Yes! Really hope he'll feel less pressure tomorrow and unleash all he's got.

--------

On a positive note, Misha said they're working on Kazuki's spins and I think it did show :)

It is actually sake (the alcoholic drink)! It was what he drank to celebrate his 20th birthday, the age of majority in Japan.

On a positive note, Misha said they're working on Kazuki's spins and I think it did show :)

Yes. He got Level 4 on all his spins and also his StSq, which doesn't usually happens. Also, his PCS were relatively good, especially considering the mistakes on his jumps. I really love how he never lets go of the performance, even when the jumps don't work out.

I'm sure he will learn from this and bounce back!
