Kazuki Tomono

Well done Kazuki 🙂

I'm still over the moon about his 6th-place finish. Yes, he didn't get the medal that he wanted; but the thing is, he was not far from it - the roughly 15pt gap between his score and Malinin's third place could have been covered had he'd been cleaner and got all his levels.

This is what stood out most for me: Kazuki's previous Worlds results were amazing, but they felt like some sort of miracle: he came out of nowhere with clean skates in 2018, and then he surprised again in 2022 when he broke 100 in the SP as a last-minute alternate.

This time, it was different. He wasn't an alternate, and it wasn't post-Olympic worlds, meaning all the top contenders were there. He wasn't foot-perfect like in 2018 and he didn't have a perfect short like in 2022, and still, he managed to remain close to the top. That, in itself, it's amazing.

In addition to being 7th in world standings, he has now the 9th highest SB of the season (273.41), just slightly lower than Sota's GPF result (274.35), and a few points below Kao's 4CC result (281.53). But both Sota and Kao achieved these scores with cleaner skates than Kazuki did at Worlds, which shows that Kazuki's scoring potential is actually huge. It makes me so proud because I know he has been working really hard in polishing all aspects of his skating, and it's really paying off now.

He said he still wants to continue chasing that medal and, season after season, the Olympics will come into view. I'm so stoked and I'm sure he'll get better and better from now on.

Popping here to say congratulations to Kazuki. Not just for the 6th place, but for the fight throughout the programs, never letting go of his performance even when he fell and is very very nervous. As a Shoma fan I have to apologize for Shoma very likely worrying Kazuki when he got injured, but they do have history at Worlds together and, quoting back from 2018, thank you Tomono-kun for saving the 3 spots!

And one more thing- I hope the Japanese companies saw the massive sea of red TOMONO banners at Worlds and see the star that Kazuki is and start supporting him. There is immensely more potential in Japan figure skating than just focusing on potential 2026 Olympic medalists- and they better start supporting Kazuki now!

OMG OMG OMG OMG KAZUKI HAS BEEN ASSIGNED TO WORLD TEAM THOPHY

Well deserved! May it mean JSF is starting to consider him a top medal contender, fully on par with Shun and Kao. I said it from the start that they knew what they were doing when they picked him for WC.

Let's not forget Sota didn't have great vehicles this year though, and is not maxed out either. Give him better and busier choreo, and music that suits him, and with a consistent set of clean programs (another thing he needs), he'll be in the 280s too.
I hope he and Kazuki keep motivating and besting each other! 💪 👏

Oh absolutely! I didn't mean that Kazuki is the only one with big scoring potential, sorry if it came across like that. I agree Sota has a lot of room to grow, as well as Kao and Shun who are still super young. The Japanese Men field has a lot of talent and I can't wait to see how things will turn out 🔥

I read that Kazuki and Sota went out to eat ramen together after Worlds 🍜 and they had a 'review meeting' in which they talked about how they both worked very hard this season. I love their friendship, it reminds me of Kaori and Mai - there's friendship, rivalry, but also a lot of companionship.

Don't worry, I didn't understand your words that way!
I think this is the part about the two boys at WC:

The follow-up tweet seems to say that Sota was very much aware of the need to maintain 3 slots, and told Kazuki to go for it (instead of him) when passing Kazuki in the locker room (after not skating his best in his FS). He used the word 託した , which the dictonary translates as 'entrust someone with something, place something under someone's care'. Which makes me misty-eyed because Sota said something similar when he called Kazuki in 2016 to tell him he'd be going to Junior Worlds last minute due to Sota having just broken his ankle. 😢 I'm very, very glad the circumstances are different now, and Sota simply had an unsuccesful competition, after which both boys had fun together at a ramen restaurant.

I woke up in the middle of the night..and saw the Insta post about WTT! Over the moon! I have a question for those of you on Insta..sorry I do not know how to screen cap..The picture of Kazuki w Mr. Sakamoto, his trainer..do you know what "gift" he gave Kazuki? TY.

Kazuki updated his IG yesterday and posted these cute banquet pics:

Also, let me share this really touching fan illustration 😭❤️

He said on IG that this was a truly special event and I think the love from the crowd and the view of the 'Tomono' flags really contributed to it.

Apart from that, yesterday he was already back in Osaka and skated his SP at the 'Hiraike Challenge Cup' at his home rink! He has so much energy, it's amazing!

GUYS!! Kazuki has a new sponsor!!! 🎉🎊
HD Flower Holdings Co., Ltd. is pleased to announce that it has signed a sponsorship contract with figure skater Kazuki Tomono on March 1st.

Tomono's imaginative figure skating programs and creative ice shows were very appealing to me, and since I am from Sakai City, Osaka Prefecture, where HD Flower Holdings is located, I feel a connection and will continue to support him.

As a sponsor of HD Flower Holdings, Kazuki Tomono will wear our logo on his practice wear . In 2023, HD Flower Holdings will sympathize with .

From the activities centered on Sakai City, Osaka Prefecture, which is the same as the base of HD Flower Holdings , we will work together with Kazuki Tomono on projects and community contribution events that make use of Kazuki Tomono's creative side.

I'm elated for him, in the beginning of the season he spoke about how difficult it was to compete with financial anxiety, but now he has three companies supporting him: Senshu Koki, Colantotte and now HD Flowers! Hopefully this is just the beginning and more companies will support him

As the press release says, HD Flowers is based in his hometown Sakai city, and their description on the website says: The entire group provides multifaceted support for a wide range of needs related to flower decorations, restaurants, wedding halls, wholesale trading companies, greenery, artificial flowers, and temporary staffing.

I wonder what kind of projects Kazuki will be doing with them. The funny thing is, when the announcement was published yesterday, the website was offline for hours... I wonder if Kazuki's popularity broke the website 😅

In other news, Kazuki has been having fun with his friends Sota and Koshiro at the SOI rehearsals 🥰

Kazuki has been named to the Dreams on Ice cast..Also, I listened to Polina Edmund's Podcast w Jeremey Abbott. Both had nothing but high praise for Kazuki..Jeremey called him a showman, talked about his speed in the choreo steps, took audience w him..and Jeremy said he was going to be sucked through the screen w Kazuki's energy.."joy"
