Kazuki Tomono

Just stopping by to say how much I enjoyed Kazuki's FS.I always enjoyed his high energy programs in the past, but this program with a more soulful, haunting quality to it is really lovely. It really showcases his maturity and his feel for the music....He had such a busy off season. Time to rest up a bit and then prepare for Nats.

I'm just so happy that Kazuki managed to finish Cup of China on a positive note. Halston wasn't perfect but it was absolutely beautiful! Performance-wise the best Halston to date IMO, I can't stop re-watching it :love2:

His gala as usual was a riot, and how luxurious that he had two guests! Kazuki is really blessed to have such great friends.

Overall, it's frustrating that he didn't have the 'glittering' GP series that he wanted, especially after starting the season so well. But I'm happy that he will have some time now to rest and prepare for Nats, and I have faith in his ability to peak in the second half of the season 🔥

Remember last season, he wasn't happy with his GP results, and went on to medal at Nationals for the first time, and was in top 6 at WC. It looks like he's in for the same this year! ✌️ He was very close to the GP podiums, too.

I already posted this in Sota’s fan fest and I assume you already know that Kazuki will be part of Daisuke's new show "Kassouya" in February, which sets out to showcase young Japanese skaters, who may not yet be widely known and otherwise wouldn’t get many show opportunities. Kazuki will be one of the few current top skaters leading the cast (along with Sota, Koshiro and Sena).

And I echo the love for Kazuki's Halston FS. It’s one of my favourite men’s programs of the season and one of my favourite programs from Kazuki to date. I think he is once again a strong contender for the Nationals podium. Fingers crossed we get to see him at Worlds! 🤞

Thank you so much! In the midst Cup of China craziness I forgot to post about it, so your update is much appreciated! I didn't know that the show is about showcasing younger skaters, that's so interesting! I'm looking forward to more updates.

I'm glad to know you love Halston too :ghug:

Canadian Smarties! We have it in the UK too, but I read that the Canadian version is slightly different

How are we feeling, everyone? I know it's frustrating to see Kazuki struggling again after doing so well in the beginning of the season. My theory is that what's happening now is similar to what happened at Worlds 2022: he was able to ride the wave of adrenaline in the SP, but things became 'real' in the FS and he made mistakes because he felt unprepared. Something similar happened at WTT, he made mistakes because he was worried because he hadn't had any time to practice (he had been busy busy doing SOI shows).

So yeah... At Nebelhorn and JO, he was still riding the wave of adrenaline from all the shows in the off-season, but the GP series is when things get serious and he's barely had anytime to prepare, and *he knows it*. He must be absolutely exhausted, too, mentally and physically. That's why I think not making GPF is the best thing it could happen, he desperately needs a break and now he'll have six weeks till Nats to rest and regroup. He hasn't had that much time 'off' since June! Back then he had just choreographed his SP.

Still, despite the mistakes in the jumps, the steps and performance were absolutely glorious and once again criminally underscored. I was pleased that Mark Hanretty praised his final spin! God knows how much Kazuki improved on spins.

I guess Japan doesn’t have Smarties. I remember those being a big candy used for Halloween here in the US growing up. I think they’re still pretty popular.

Wow. I’m surprised with how things went at Cup of China. Not in a bad way. I’m very happy for the medalists. My heart breaks for Kazuki though because we know how much he wanted to medal at his Grand Prix assignments this season. I really believe he’ll medal at nationals. Maybe he’ll be chosen for World Team Trophy again this year. I wish there was a way we could do something for Kazuki like make a fan video with recorded messages to him that could be sent to his rink or maybe given to Misha to give to him to encourage him but also show him how much he is supported and loved. I would happily show him a video of a program I skate to with some inspiration I took from his skating. We know Kazuki said that if he had 2 bad seasons in a row he would probably stop. But was last season really that bad? I thought he did medal. And he can still medal this season. He really has everything he needs to be an Olympian. It’s just that sometimes skaters have bad days on the ice or things just don’t go as planned. But you gotta get back up and keep going.

When I saw the pictures of Shoma and Sota helping Kazuki in his gala performance I yelled out “YES! He gets to push the chair!” Before Cup of China I thought what it would be like if Shoma pushed the chair and sure enough he did! He should again at Nationals. That was too cool 😎

Jazz Machine was a huge success, like all of Kazuki's galas. I've been seeing videos and shorts of it on YT a lot this last couple of days, and lots of pics online :)
I hope the collabs of skaters take off as a trend (like Kazuki invited his friends to appear in his gala), they seem quite popular with audience.

Awww I don't know if you guys remember, but Kazuki gave Kaori Miura a 'Tomono' tote bag, and Kao really liked it and said it would be his bag for the season. He wasn't joking! Kao was spotted at training in Espoo with his Tomono tote bag 🥺❤️

Meanwhile, a couple of nice fan illustrations:
