Kazuki Tomono

I have a question..Wasthe Habenara supposed to be Sena, Sota and Koshiro..or did I misunderstand? Kazuki was amazing in that and in everything,,And..he was crying? Awww
Yes, the original Habanera trio was Sena, Sota and Koshiro. Koshiro had to withdraw from Kassouya before the first day started, while Sena withdrew on the third day, both due to poor health. Daisuke filled in for Habanera in the first day (so he immediately did his new solo program after) while Kazuki filled in for Habanera in the second day (as a trio with Sota and Sena) and the third day (as a duo with Sota).

Again, kudos to Kazuki's stamina and ice show experience. He has experience skating in more than one shows a day (with multiple numbers) for the last few years now, and it definitely came in handy for Kassouya here.

In case anyone is still doubting the camerawork quality Kassouya has... look at their preview video. Gorgeously done and fits perfectly with its aesthetic. Honestly I have to give it to Daisuke, his shows look distinctly Japanese but also ready for international expansion- both Hyoen and this. They always look gorgeous and modern and can appeal to general audiences.

Hey maybe they could have Kazuki be part of the cast for Hyoen in the future. I heard it is coming back this year.

Just think all the ice shows he could be a part of in the future! Oh I can't wait to see one in person in Japan.

According to fan reports all of the merchandise, except for the stickers and the programme brochure, was already sold out on the 2nd day. Keep an eye on fskating.net. If they restock any of the items, it's likely they will be sold there: https://fskating.net/products/list_goods.php?category_id=3

To order from their shop you'll need a proxy service like cdjapan or Japan rabitt (or any other proxy of your choice). I've ordered from fskating.net via cdjapan a couple of times without any problems. (Just be warned- it's mighty expensive! :drama:)

I think it depends on wether Daisuke wants to take Kassouya to other Japanese cities. At least I've seen a lot of fans, who couldn't attend the Fukuoka shows, request this. If there will be other tour stops then I think the possibility increases they'll have the last stop filmed for tv. 🤞

I don't think there was a lack of interest from tv stations. Fuji tv, ntv, TBS as well as several local tv stations were happy to promote Kassouya. All of Daisuke's other shows so far, withou exception, have been broadcasted either live or on delay (not to mention the many rebroadcasts - sometimes in different versions with different camera angles - and the cinema screenings for Hyoen 2019 and 2021). As rabidline and also KiraraChin said in Dai's fan fest, it's a clever pr strategy to do it this way to find a potential new audience/tap into a new market. Seeing that over 9 performances they had about 20.000 customers and the show got rave audience reviews, I'd definitely rate it a success! :)

I tried since they distributed many exclusive KanaDai documentaries, but it's virtually impossible for non-Japanese people to register with eplus (unless you find a way to acquire a Japanese mobile phone number). :(

This one? ;) ("Cut my fingers off" by Ethan Bortnick)

Here are parts of the number filmed from different angles:

This is another cool video of Habanera with a focus on Kazuki - even though he only joined the number from day 2, he got the part down pat :

Thanks for the heads up and yes that one! "Cut my fingers off" I is my favorite one with him! Oh I hope Kazuki or somebody talks about the story behind each number in the show especially that one because I am so curious.

Dai’s part stayed the same throughout all shows. Since Koshiro couldn’t join it was Sota and Sena on the first day, then Kazuki joined on the second and on the third it was Sota and Kazuki due to Sena falling ill. (A speedy recovery to Koshiro and Sena and the other two cast members, Kazugawa Ichiro Nagasaki and Yasudai Kitamura, who dropped out a few days before the premiere.) Habanera directly transitions into/is the intro to Dai’s flamenco-style solo “Flame to the moth”, so he always joined in at the end.

@Figskater23 I thought the same, I would love to see Kazuki at Hyoen! Let's keep our fingers crossed 🤞

If I had to guess, I’d say Kazuki and Kosho Oshima are potential candidates to be invited in the future!

Thank you for the explanation!

Kazuki posted a few more IG stories yesterday. As fans noticed, he hadn't posted this many stories in succession in a long time, and I think this suggests he's feeling motivated and happy. Once again, I am extremely grateful to Daisuke for giving him this opportunity!

First, he posted this story about a song. Then, he posted two stories about the Kassouya rehearsals:

I was quite impressed with Kazuki's skating in Kassouya. And, like someone wrote here, he's a natural leader in ice shows, and it would be awesome if Kazuki started his own shows in the future, or assumed a more active role in potential future Kassouyas or Hyouen.

And now I'll be rooting for him in Challenge Cup - I assume he's flying soon! 🍀 Go win that 🥇 , Kazuki!

Also, the recent interview with Nikkan Premium is available for free for a brief period of time, so I'll post the DeepL translation here:

Figure Skating: National Sports Festival (former National Athletic Meet) Winter Games>◇ January 28-31◇ Nepia Ice Arena, Hokkaido◇ Adult Men's

Short Program (SP): 68.49 points (6th)
-You also had a jump fall. How do you feel looking back?

TOMONO: My physical condition was not stable for about 2 weeks at the beginning of the year, and I thought I finally got back to it this past week, but I still had some things that I hadn't finalized. But I still felt that I hadn't fully mastered some things. 6-minute practice sessions were not so bad, but I was nervous at the end, and I felt that my practice came out in the competition. I regret that I did not practice enough to overcome the nerves. In the FS, I would like to put this frustration to use. I am not in bad shape, so I could realize how difficult it is to compete in the real competition, and I think it was a good competition.

-Did you feel sick at the beginning of the year, or was it a cold?

Tomono: It was the flu and a few other things (laughs).

-Did you not get much practice?

Tomono: Hmmm, but that's just an excuse. I think it was partly because I was very weak after the All-Japan Tournament. However, other players had already had their matches, so if I had a big match after this, I think I would not have adjusted well enough, so I would like to take good care of myself.

- A lot of time has passed since the All-Japan Championships a month ago. How do you look back now?

TOMONO: It was the best competition ever in my skating life. I think I gave my all, and I am very happy to have such a competition in my skating life. I am happy to be able to compete in this Japan Men's team, and in such a wonderful group of skaters. This time, I was No.6, but I hope to win the next time, to get stronger and stronger, starting from this competition.

Two years until the Milan Cortina d'Ampezzo Olympics
-How do you see this time?

Tomono: For me, I wanted to have more time to get stronger. Considering that there are only two years left until the Olympics, now is the best time for me to do so, and having time to make myself stronger will be very important and critical for me. I feel it is a very good opportunity. I myself have been running for the past two years, so I wanted time to stop and warm myself up, so I see it as a positive thing.

-When you say "kept running," do you mean that you, Tomono, needed to keep putting forth your best effort as the level of the other competitors was rising?

Tomono: That was part of it, and also because I had a lot of competitions. I was invited to participate in the World Championships and many shows. It was difficult for me to practice myself for months at a time, so I think that having that time is very valuable. I have been able to step up little by little, but I wanted to change myself drastically, so having that time is a positive thing for me.

-In May of this year, you will turn 26 years old. Although there is a push from younger people, do you feel that there is still room for growth?

Tomono: I think other athletes are just starting, and I myself feel that my body is at its most active now. I feel that my jump height and skating skills are getting better and better, so the more I move, the stronger I will get. I think I am getting better at managing my body. I think I can evolve if I keep up my physical maintenance. Even Oda (Nobunari) is jumping (laughs). He always gives me courage. I know he went through a lot last year at the National Athletics Championships, as well as this year's competition, but I could see that he never gave up, and he worked very hard, and it showed in his performance. Last year, he sometimes got tired in the second half of the competition, but this year, he did not get tired at all. I learned a lot from watching that. I think people will say, "Oda, at your age..." But when I see how he has grown so much, I think I can still do it, too.

Free: 184.14 points (1st place)
-How is your condition?

TOMONO: Today, I think I got back much better. Yesterday, I was so stiff, so I had nothing to be afraid of anymore, so I was very relaxed.

-There was a moment of relief in the kiss & cry.

Tomono: I had not been adjusting well, and my physical condition has not been so good for a while, but I thought there was no point for me to continue to compete unless I could win in such a situation. I think I was able to perform well, because I had been in shambles in the short program.

-How do you feel about the competition as a whole?

Tomono: I think this national sport is a page from my youth, and it is a precious opportunity for me in figure skating as a team competition, so I will enjoy it, and cheer for the rest of the men's and women's teams as well. I think cheering is a part of the team competition, so I will do my best.

- Have you had any changes in your mindset after the All-Japan Championships?

Tomono: It was very difficult for me to adjust, but I was glad that I could make up my mind and go all out, because I thought it didn't matter much anymore.

-Has the level of perfection of your free skate improved?

TOMONO: I think I could do 4-3(quad-triple toeloop), which I couldn't do in All-Japan, is a step forward. It was more difficult to score iat Kokutai than in All-Japan, but I could get such a high score, that gave me a lot of confidence in myself. (I think my performance was one of the best I have ever done at Kokutai).

This month, a trip to the Netherlands
- The Challenge Cup (Tilburg, Holland, 22-25 February) is coming up in the near future. How do you want to end the season?

Tomono: I have made only one no-miss in the short event so far this season, so I would like to aim for a higher level of perfection.

-It is a little early, but what do you have in mind for next season?

Tomono: That's right. We have a lot of time, so I want to improve dramatically. I have been waiting for this time to come. The Olympics are only two years away. I think this is the perfect opportunity. I hope I can improve my skills.

-What do you want to do now to improve dramatically?

Tomono: I think jumping is the only way. I want to improve my overall level, of course, but especially my jumps.

-What are your issues in Free Skate at the moment?

TOMONO: All of them. Spins, steps. Compared to the top skaters, I think I still have a long way to go, and there is no end to skating, so I hope to push harder.

Do you think in future Kassouyas they could bring back “cut my fingers right off” and that one or was it more dance where they wore the black masks? Some of the lyrics to the mask song was “come out wherever you are.” I would love to see Kazuki do those numbers again in the future. He looked so handsome with that mask on and the black coat with gloves.

'Please take a look at the beautiful confrontation scene between Leader Daisuke and Leader Tomono in masks and long coats'

I also want to share these thoughts from someone who says in their bio they are a Daisuke fan. To me, it's really high praise and it illustrates that not only Daisuke himself is very generous, but his fanbase is also very generous in the way they can appreciate other male skaters, too 🥹

I suddenly thought that Kazuki Tomono has a very strong torso, when I watched the Kassouya shared videos. No matter how big he moves his arms and legs, the axis of his body does not shake at all. When he skates with Daisuke, I sometimes feel like they have the same vibe, maybe it's because of this unshakable body. Also, the lightness of his movements? I feel that there is no force in his movements.

I've always known that Tomono is an entertainer, and I've always thought that his spirit of service, or the way he tries to communicate to the outside world, is what led to his wonderful performance. He is, after all, an amazing technician. With a strong body that doesn't blur,

I was blown away by the skillful body control, which I suddenly noticed this time. The moving part and the immovable part. I think it is actually very rare to find someone who can stop so quickly with such a core. No wonder he can hold his own with Daisuke. He is slender and has a fresh boyish look, but he has a strong presence and a kingly dignity. It's amazing!
