Kazuki Tomono

Meanwhile, Tsuchiya Kaban's gift for Kazuki made it to NetLab, a big entertainment/lifestyle site in Japan 🙀 They described Kazuki is 'one of Japan's top athletes' - JSF must be furious 😹

Kazuki himself posted about the gift - I hadn't appreciated it has a butterfly that can attached, fitting this season's theme 🥹 That's so thoughtful!

I received a very nice present from Tsuchiya Kaban, which I always use!

The craftsmanship is too good...

I will use it with care while enjoying the changes over time.

On FB, TSL asks the question "What skater are you looking forward to seeing this yr?" An assortment of answers..As I was skimming I saw the following..:I live in Osaka, Japan so I want to see Tomono Kazuki (my daughter’s in the same skating team!) I think Tomo kun is a very underrated skater." I answered her by saying Kazuki is my favorite skater..She then said.."he’s such an entertainer and a very nice guy!! In August he did a little workshop with the younger skaters and they also practiced a part of his new programme!" So we are not alone!

That's so sweet, thank you so much for sharing 🥹 Really crazy that, on top of everything he did in August, he also did this workshop 🙀

I'm hoping that, now that the off-season is over, he's having a productive time with his training and fewer distractions.

Meanwhile, one of the fellow OPOI skaters posted a 'review' of TOMONO curry 🍛

and check out this Koza pic... So cool!

As fans start receiving their Koza acrylic stand, the fun trend continues 😄

Mr Koza came to our house and immediately cut the meat.

When we came to the ‘Dragon's Den’, Lord Koza beautifully cut the delicious meat for us... thank you!

I'm so jealous 😢 I had a look, but this acrylic stand is not available for overseas customers 😭

Do you think it may be possible to order it via a proxy? One creates an account on them, then order on the merchandise site and give their address for delivery, and they forward it to most countries in the World. The problem being that the custom and international shipping costs are unknown at the moment of the order, only the delivery to the proxy is included. It can be hefty. I've read Figure Skating fans use WorldShopping or Tenso, chiefly, but I've never used any of them.

When I went to the page, a proxy pop-up appears, but when I tried to order there was a message saying the item is not available for customers overseas. I think that was a decision made by the seller, so it would probably be the same with different proxies

Meanwhile, good news everyone (or at least, for Japanese fans): TOMONO curry will be back on sale from 24 Sep! They will also be introducing two new trading cards, although this time there won't be any autographed cards (due to Kazuki being in the competitive season). So cool! It's really amazing they managed to restock it so quickly!

Also, Kazuki's latest Mainichi article was published in this morning's newspaper (next Sota's interview)

Fans continue to post their awesome Koza pics!

From this I speculate that the first batch may have been a commercial test, with more production planned if it proved successful, but also a B-plan in case it wouldn't? With the (possible) test batch sold out in no time, they then could launch the main one? I hope that it will sell well too! Honestly, even for someone who's not a fan to the point of buying anything Kazuki, his gathering with friends to taste ramen and other dishes in restaurants, makes his commendation quite valuable.

Nope, they explained what happened - basically Kazuki severely underestimated the demand 😅 He decided to produce a certain amount of curry, and Daiichi Juken multiplied this amount SIX times, and it was still nowhere near enough- they didn't give absolute number but implied it was an enormous amount of curry, that's why they were very surprised when it sold out so fast.

So, they were not expecting to produce a second batch, at least not anytime soon... The fact that they managed to arrange the launch of the second batch so quickly is absolutely amazing!

The marketing campaign for the second batch has started:

I wanted the two new trading card designs to have completely opposite directions.I wanted to capture Tomono-kun in a more gentle way, so when I first asked him about a different pose, he counter-proposed this gal-pi. (gal-pi seems to refer to 'gal pose', here's some info on gals (or gyaru) : https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gyaru

Meanwhile, Tsuchiya Kaban posted an IG showing the making of the leather butterflies they did especially for Kazuki 🥹 Once again, the level of detail and care is amazing...

Caption says:
This leather bow tie was specially tailored for figure skater Kazuki Tomono, whom we recently posted about, along with a special bag for the tissue case (thank you for all your comments on our recent tissue case video).

The three-dimensional effect of the butterflies is achieved using a technique where the leather is soaked in water and moulded.

In response, Paoz posted this super cute illustration:

OK, so I was pleasantly surprised Kazuki was included in this? 🤔

JSF also announced the list of skaters exempt from sectionals: https://www.skatingjapan.or.jp/whatsnew/detail.php?id=238
Kazuki as expected is exempted from Western Sectionals, so as long as he competes at Kinki, he will be automatically qualified for Nationals.

Speaking of Kinki, he'll be the 10th to skate in the SP, out of 12. Not a bad place to be

Finally, Daiichi Juken posted info about the second new trading card:

When we asked for an ‘athlete's face’ as the second cool type following the Heir, this is the expression he instantly showed us!
I feel that this image shows #Tomono-kun's character particularly strongly amongst all the trading cards!

He did the pose I imagine for the Japan national team (?)

Wikipedia has this listed as Kazuki's exhibition..chore by Kana.. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nCUTXS3SJ6U
Yup, this was mentioned on his big non-no interview. I really hope we get to see both his exhibitions this season 😭

Meanwhile, great to know Kazuki has been inspiring his juniors 🥹

Kazuki himself tweeted today, revealing he was on the ice with Yuhana Yokoi as she recorded her new TV show

Fuji TV interview with Kazuki:"Choreographing with Shae & Lori was a dream.I want to see what kind of person I can become after Misha.I want to show my presence this season.I want to be number one in all competitions, aiming for the Olympics.I want to change something."from X

'After Misha'? It sounds like he's left him for good to test out other choreographers?
And no word on Nepela Cup yet, I suppose?

Nooo they're still working together, I guess he just said he wanted to try new choreographers after working with Misha, but it doesn't mean that his work with Misha is over. In fact, he talked about re-using Halston and turning the new EX he did with Misha 'Life is Beautiful' as his SP for the Olympic season (but nothing is confirmed yet).

About Nepela, entries are not out yet...
