Kazuki Tomono

That's a 2.49 points advantage for the former. Just on one jump.

That's something that's been driving me crazy since ever Yuma appeared in the circuit. Does he deserve the advantage on certain technical aspects? Yes. Does the difference need to be so big. Absolutely not.

Other than that, I'm incredibly worried that Kazuki won't have GP spots next season. His SB is low, his WS will most likely slide a lot as we know how he's going to be scored at Nationals based on what happened last year💀

I hope I'm wrong...

How could he not end up with GP spots next season? Team Japan needs him to represent.

I hope Kazuki rests well and trains like he wants to leading up to Nationals. I’m sad for him because his GP assignments didn’t go like he wanted, but with the injury it is understandable. Fingers crossed for him the rest of the season. I hope he gets to go to either Four Continents or Worlds.

Thank you Jackie Wong for telling us that this "4Lz" was reviewed, because we couldn't have guessed that it was, yet nobody saw the full blade assist or the severe underrotation, arguably a downgrade:

It's fortunate that Kazuki Tomono, usually fully rotates his Quadruple jumps, because I'm afraid that he wouldn't get full base value and +1s and +2s in GOE for such a jump. Should he get such GOEs for such Quadruple jumps (and should his principles allow him), I'm sure that he would have more than two, be called a "great jumper"... and go to the Final.

OK, I finally feel calmer now, but I gotta say this has truly been the GP series from hell for us Kazuki fans 🙂
I really hope he learnt a good lesson on how to manage his body as an older skater, because trying to push himself too much, too soon in the season was a bad idea - I believe had he been in his 'normal' shape and not injured, he could have medalled in both his assignments. Sigh.

In any case, at least now I can say I fully enjoy both his programmes. Here are some pictures from Finlandia Trophy:

Is this a new sponsor? :hap10:
There's been no announcements regarding sponsorships, but who knows? If the video and article get a lot of engagement, and the company sees an increase in the sales of the products that Kazuki recommended, maybe they'll establish a partnership
At the very least, they put time in the production of the video and pictures, which look great.

They published the interview online too, and it's honestly a must read: https://www.naris-online.jp/magazine/jbn/241103.html
As usual, Kazuki's outlook in life is so inspiring 🥹 The pictures are great too, and the products he recommended sound awesome. I really hope they sell well!

I must confess I laughed at this shady comment under the YouTube video: Tomono-kun! Your performances and expressions have been really amazing recently. At times I can sense the beauty of your skips and stretches! You're small, but everything looks big - do your best towards the Olympics! If you perform each performance with calm and elegance, you'll be sure to win a medal!! Please show us the charm that Kagiyama-kun can't! You have an incredible charm that draws the audience in in a way that younger skaters can't, so I hope you'll get carried away and perform a performance that will make adults' hearts flutter in the Shoma style! Your jumps are so beautiful.

Medaling in the current skating climate is no easy task as it IMO depends on at least 3 variables - what fed you're from, what your standing is in that fed (and we know how JSF feels about older skaters... Go Kazuki, Sota and Nobunari!), and who you are skating against. It surely wasn't playing in Kazuki's favor, either, that we're looking at mostly JPN GPF in women while GPF is taking place in Europe, plus, there's no doubt some hyping up for a certain skater was taking place because of upcoming home Olympics. Kazuki's injury just made the judges' assignment easier.

That said, I am glad I could see Kazuki live for the first time. He was so close to medaling after the SP that my companion gave me a disapproving frown, saying my good luck charm was working for the 'wrong one' (we had a running joke before this event that when I'm attending a full competition, Sota either places 1st or 2nd). 😄 Well, in the end, the preparation + stamina probably wasn't there yet for Kazuki, and he couldn't hold on to the medal. But he looks good, he has a small bronze and a small silver medal, and I wish him the best at Nationals. (y) I guess I'll need to stick with B events and Challengers from now on, for the 'good luck charm' to work! Hopefully JSF assigns Kazuki to those! They really owe him at least one since skipping him for Challengers was so unreasonable and unfair.

Seen live, he's short, but not as tiny as I thought he'd look. And he's very expressive. I'm glad I cheered for him holding up my banner (which is currently drying after getting washed... I'm glad the kanji have held up since 2020!). He performs really well in the practices as well. I was sitting near the KnC for the FS practice, and could enjoy Kazuki's expressions in the vivacious last third of his FS.

I didn't have a chance to hand him my gift, take photos with him, ask him for an autograph or say anything to him. I wonder if that's difficult to do at any GP (this was my first and last GP, I think), or if the chances were not that great in Helsinki in particular. Hopefully there'll be a next time. But at least there was partial success, as Sota's coach was kind enough to take the two boys' gift bags from me when I called out to her at the end of men's SP practice, and she handed it to them. Hopefully Kazuki received my little gift and message (in English... I hope his English is good ^ ^). I mentioned you in the message, Kirara, though not by name. I hope that's okay with you. I was writing about how Kazuki has fans in Europe, and how we appreciate him skating on.

It doesn't surprise me at all that Kazuki was once again the mastermind behind his and Sota's sauna expedition. Good to hear the boys enjoyed the experience! ♨️

I remember that a fan had left their present to Satoko Miyahara at the reception of the skaters' hotel at Skate America, so I had phoned the reception of the skaters' hotel for the next Grand Prix de France (in Grenoble), the receptionist had asked a manager and answered me that they couldn't take presents for skaters.
So, I think that it's a matter of chance and local policies, and I'm glad that you could hand over your presents to his coach.

I hope Kirara forgives me for hijacking Kazuki's fanfest for a minute, but people can actually learn where skaters are staying for GP's? How? I
I don't recall seeing any info about official hotel(s) in the official Finlandia statement (and IIRC there was none for Nebelhorn this year, either).
I admit I'd checked out if there's an official hotel for Helsinki GP, but it wouldn't have made a difference for me as I pick based on closeness to the rink and other factors. But the JPN fans seem to be in the know as they were staying at the skater hotel, too.
Imagine my surprise when, having picked a hotel halfway between the main railway station and the rink, I sidle over to the hotel right next to mine for lunch (their restaurant had a better rep, but reviews about cold rooms turned this cold-sensitive person off, so I just went there for a few meals during my stay)... only to stumble upon a desk for Finlandia accreditation. lol. I never saw any JPN skaters but Sumitada and Haruna at the restaurant. I consider that a good thing as I don't think Sota would believe for a minute it's really a coincidence that I'm lounging about, hehe.

You're right, it wasn't in the last announcement:
I don't know if it's a new ISU policy, or if each organiser chooses the way they announce the official hotels.
There's usually a hotel for the officials and judges, and a hotel for the teams.

@surimi thank you so much for sharing your experience and mentioning me in your letter :love2: I hope now Kazuki knows how much he's loved all around the world, not only in Japan 🥹 I'm also glad to know he is as expressive live as he is on the screen, and that he doesn't look tiny on the ice.

TV Asahi released bonus footage of Kazuki's SP + featuring commentary by himself:

A fan posted these cool pics of Kazuki's free at Finlandia. What do you guys think of this costume? I didn't like it at first, I thought it was a bit too 'fluffy', but now I'm warming up to it.

I like both costumes!

Kazuki skated today at the Osaka Autumn Challenge event. He performed Tshegue with triples, and instructed kids at a skating class 🥹
Thankfully, Kurasawa-san was there to report!
Figure skater Kazuki Tomono gives skating classes in his hometown Osaka: ‘I hope they can feel the fun’.

Kazuki Tomono (Daiichi Juken Group), a male figure skater, participated as an instructor in a skating class organised by the city of Osaka on 23 November. He taught the basics of skating to local children, mainly beginners.

Tomono, who has a passion for promoting skating, has frequently participated in skating classes as an instructor. On this day, he taught to about 240 people recruited by the city on two occasions, in the morning and in the afternoon.

Before the skating class, he performed this season's short programme (SP) song as an exhibition. The participants cheered when he landed a triple axel (three and a half rotations) on ice. After the skating class, the skater was interviewed and smiled, saying, ‘I hope they could feel the fun as much as possible.

Tomono's results in this season's Grand Prix (GP) series were 5th in the third round in France and 6th in the fifth round in Finland, due to a hip injury he had just suffered, meaning he was unable to advance to the finals as he had set his sights on. "Although I was not fully satisfied, these two rounds were good enough to help me grow," he reflected, as he set his sights on the All Japan Championships, just a month away, saying, "I just want to keep pushing myself." BTW guys, if anyone wants to buy the non-no 2025 calendar and haven't done it yet, now it's your last chance! The calendar was sold out and non-no just announced a reprint: https://store.hpplus.jp/fs/shop/g/g430927/

The Tweets have several tens thousands views! Certainly several times the usual Tweets of this poster? It shows a real popularity, and that's very good! Plus the re-print of the calendar, the sold-out curry, etc.

Yeah. His popularity is undeniable at this point! I checked Japan's top trends on Twitter during GP France and Finlandia Trophy, and 'Tomono-kun' was on Japan's top trends both times - granted, not in very high positions but still 💪

Today Kurasawa-san posted more pics from yesterday's event:

#Kazuki Tomono's skating class on 23rd. I didn't take that many photos, but there were some I didn't send, so here they are.
(1) Tomono talking about the importance of penguin posture.
(2) Tomono sitting on the ice with the children listening to what to do when he falls down.
(iii) Tomono smiling after his instruction.

Still as you say, Figure Skating is a niche sport, it's not like those team sports or tennis, so it's all the more remarkable.
I wondered at first, but now I'm convinced that these contracts he's having (for Naris, it may be just a one-off thing, maybe to try the Kazuki effect on their sales or engagement, but it's still a contract) are his own doing without any help of JSF who are losing contracts and can't even secure them for a skater for whom they got undeserved big medals?
In France we say, Rome wasn't built in one day; but for Kazuki Tomono, his hard work (and his charisma) seem to put things in a good way!

Yes, I agree, his commercial success is due to his hard work and good interpersonal relationships (for example, with non-no), and has nothing to do with the fed. The fed knows this and they're happy to invite him for promotional and/or outreach activities, such as the skating class in Nikko in the spring, the GP series press conference etc but for some reason they don't want him anywhere near the podium in competitions 😒

On a different note, check out this cute pic from Finlandia Trophy practice!
