Kazuki Tomono

What is the story with how Kazuki came to work with Misha in the beginning? Why train in California? A part of me wondered if he would have ever gone to the rink Shoma went to near Chicago to work on jumps and such a few times.

IIRC, Kazuki admired Misha..After Worlds 2018, Japanese Fed approached Misha to work w Kazuki. Benoit approached Kazuki..but..

Kazuki has admired Misha for years and introduced himself to Misha in the backstage of Worlds 2018. In English!

Afterwards, following his good results at Worlds, Kazuki requested JSF to work with Misha and the rest is history. Misha might not be very focused on jumps, but he helped Kazuki to expand his expression a lot!

On a different note... Look at that smile!

I'm so happy about this! Must be such a relief, and I wonder if Daiichi Juken's visit around New Year contributed to it. In any case, it's wonderful and hopefully he's now able to focus on his training without financial worries

Also..someone on X said she saw a snippet of Kazuki's sp? I assume at the Hirake Show?
I think this is it! Not sure if I like the cartwheel lol but it seems to be a very entertaining programme!

Cross-posting from Dai's fan fest - finally the veil was lifted regarding the SOI collaboration number!

Mao Asada & Daisuke Takahashi, the dream team, talk about each other: the past and present of these extraordinary skaters
[April 2, 2025, 7:59am]
[...]

Living in the same era, they have been and still are each other's source of growth and challenge. Muramoto, who was entrusted with song selection and choreography, also responded to this relationship.

Muramoto: They've competed in many different fields, and now they'll be reuniting after having their own shows and having had many different experiences. I think it's really special. I wanted to highlight the two of them.
The theme is past and present. Muramoto will play Asada's past, and Tomono Kazuki will play Takahashi's past, and the four will dance together. It's an ambitious piece that chronicles the two of their journeys to the song "Silhouette" sung by AQUILO.

Asada: This may be the last (collaboration). I want to savor every moment.
Takahashi: Maybe by looking back on it, we'll discover something new and think about it again. I hope it will be a piece that gives people a sense of hope as the four of us share it.
The two actors, playing their past roles and the two actors playing their present roles, come together on the ice, depicting them moving forward into the future. This will be a major milestone production for both [all] of them.

It's such a shame that this is behind a paywall, because it seems Hiraike-sensei talks about Kazuki's injury and apparently it was a lot more serious that Kazuki had let on, including just before 4CC :eek2:

I really hope Kazuki is OK now... Not being selected for Worlds and WTT has been a blessing this time.

@synesthesia thank you so much for the update :love2: It's just amazing to see that Kazuki was selected to play Dai's younger version again, especially considering so many other great skaters will be at SOI too. I also think Kazuki is probably delighted he will get to skate with his big sister Kana 🤩 This is such a great experience for him, and the number sounds amazing, can't wait to see it!

In other news, Kazuki will be hosting the Figure Skating Festival at Naniwa again! This time, it's happening on 17 May, two days after his birthday. Last year, he did it with Kosho and Yuto, but now there is an extra silhouette! Maybe Sena?
We will know more details on Tuesday, 8 April.

I'm really looking forward to the collaboration number and as I said in the SOI Japan show thread - imo there is no more suitable candidate than Kazuki to portray young Dai, because they have so many qualities in common as skaters! 🥰

So, Misha confirmed that next season's Halston won't be simply a recycled programme, they will actually remake it! Can't wait to see it 🤩

Very excited to see the reworked version! 🤩 Do you reckon he might debut it at the Naniwa Figure Skating Festival?

Pictures of SOI rehearsals on Twitter..trying to figure out how to post them..Kazuki w main group

Here you go 🙂:

I think it's even possible he'll debut it now at SOI! He said he wanted to get his programmes done early so he could perform them as much as possible in shows before the season starts.

Speaking of shows, Kazuki will be at Dreams on Ice this year!

... and two worlds collide for me, as Kazuki (and Satton) wave at Paddington Bear 🇬🇧

I hope so too.

Oh, that would be awesome! I didn't expect that the reworked program would be performance-ready this soon! 🤩

I've been posting SOI updates in the respective thread in the ice shows subforum, if you're interested ☺️:

Thank you for the updates @synesthesia ! I'm reading the comments and everyone is saying the Mao/KanaDai/Kazuki collab number was amazing. One of my mutuals, who is at SOI, tweeted:
Dream collaboration between KanaDai, Mao and Tomono.
I felt that Dai-chan must have nominated Tomono-kun. I think this is because Tomono-kun was the piece that created the world view.
The choreography was wonderful, with the two who had faced each other in Kassouya, now playing the past and present together.

Meanwhile, Daiichi Juken sent him beautiful blue flowers!

BTW, according to reports, he performed Tshegue today, so no new programme announcement yet.

I'm seeing many audience reports praising the collaboration number. Fans are saying that Kazuki's and Kana's parts are bigger than they thought and not only does Mao skate with Dai and Kana with Kazuki, but there are also pairings (in dance hold) of Mao X Kana and Dai X Kazuki!

Kazudai was skating so close that for a second I thought Dai-chan was going to lift Tomono-kun 😂←That wasn't the case.
Maybe it was at the start?

I was on Kazudai's side so I could see the hand choreography well, but the two of them were more than perfectly in sync, they were timelessly identical.

Absolutely gorgeous pictures 😍
The one with Dai gently guiding his younger self (Kazuki) made me tear up. I really want to see this collab!

Daiichi Juken posted this pic of Kazuki next to the huge blue flower bouquet! I like that his trainers are as bold as the costume lol

But, in addition to Tshegue, Kazuki also performed 'Don't fall in love', which also earned a lot of praise. I came across this review with a Twitter user, from their profile seem like they are a general figure skating fan rather than a Kazuki stan:

Let me talk about Tomono-kun.

His only big medal as a senior was a silver medal at the Four Continents Championships. No, it's strange to say only that, he's such an amazing skater.

The level of figure skating in Japan is high these days, and there are a lot of medalists.

He may not be as well known among the general public as the medalists are.

Even though he is extremely well known among figure skating fans.

But I think he is a treasure in the figure skating world.

What else could a skater this amazing be but a treasure!?

He makes me cry so much, I can't stop being moved!

Figure skating is not just about jumps. His skating is truly entertainment, but it also stirs emotions and grabs the heart.

He captivates the viewer with a single fingertip movement.

He makes your flesh and blood dance with his best steps.

I hope he will continue to captivate the viewers with his skating forever.

Don't quit, don't retire, I hope he keeps skating even after retirement.
