Kazuki Tomono

Absolutely gorgeous pictures 😍
The one with Dai gently guiding his younger self (Kazuki) made me tear up. I really want to see this collab!

Please take a look at the Stars on Ice thread - I posted the performance there this morning, along with the other group numbers Kazuki was part of (opening + rock medley/finale). :)

Imo Silhouette really was the highlight of the show - I had goosebumps after watching it for the first time as everything came together so beautifully - the meaning/message, the song, the choreography, the costumes. It was perfect! 🥹

And here is Kazuki's solo performance (Don't fall in love), incl. a short interview:

OMG thank you so much @synesthesia !

Completely agree, such a stunning collab! First of all, the choreography!? So fluid and delicate, something that only Kana could do!
Dai and Mao were a joint slay, such a powerful duo :love2: and Kazuki!!!! First of all, he and Dai are so synchronised it's CRAZYYYYYYY. It really looks like they're the same person, just Kazuki is a bit less refined and mature in his movements, but that fits perfectly with the theme. I was also very proud of him for being able to blend seamlessly with Mao, Dai and Kana, three people with outstanding skating skills! He has worked so hard for this 🥹

'Don't fall in love' was also great, I love this EX so much! I also noticed he's now almost back to his usual EX layout (3A and 3F, instead of 3T), which gives me hope he's really healed from his injury this time

TY so very much!

Ouch, it looks painful! I guess Kazuki is wearing a protective piece under his jacket, but it's still scary-looking! 🙈
I don't think that it is necessary? The edges are cutting of course, but she takes care not to cut with them, which would result from a sliding move; this is why she's stomping.

I went back and looked the actual performance uploaded by @synesthesia on the SOI thread (thank you!), and she effectively skips over him, her blade barely touching him. She was clearly not comfortable with it! I guess Kazuki is used to it because in One Piece on Ice, Crocodile (Takahito Mura) also stomped over Koza lol

Meanwhile, a couple of updates from yesterday:

Following the recent interview with Hiraike-sensei, Deep Edge plus released podcast about him and his relationship with Kazuki

Also, JSF will be holding a fan meeting at this year's annual training camp, and who did they get to promote it? Kaori (their top lady) and... Kazuki

This kinda of thing is shameless. They use him for promo because they know he's popular. THEY KNOW, and yet they keep underscoring him again and again. I will never understand...

Airport selfie:

Today is the last day of SOI, and Kazuki, alongside KanaDai and Mao participated in a talk show. Here's the report by a fan:

Talk show at the Sapporo concert on the 13th

Kanadai Mao-sama and Tomono-kun

The content was mostly about the collaboration

The trigger was that we had dinner together at Friends on ice last year, and we were talking about how it would be nice to do something together, and then we ended up appearing at SOI, so this was the right timing (Mao)

・Kana-chan is the center of production

The song is a wonderful song with a storyline, and the theme of past and present came up with "one more person" (Muramoto)

・Kazuki-kun came to mind (Muramoto)

・It's great, Kazuki~ (Muramoto)

・Kana-chan and Mao-chan skate really well together, and the silhouettes of me and Kazuki (physique) are just right (Takahashi)

I've been told that it was good after the Osaka event, so I'm feeling good about it (Takahashi).
I froze for about 10 seconds when I heard about it (Tomono).
Tomono-kun wasn't in Tokyo (couldn't practice).
I was worried, but Kazuki can do it (Muramoto).
I'm sure he'll be fine (Takahashi).
I'm sure we can manage (Tomono)

I can do it, I can do it.

・Everyone made time to come together in Osaka for a day (Tomono)
・The highlight was seeing Mao and Dai-chan, who we followed behind (Muramoto)

Today is the last collaboration number, so we'll skate with all our hearts!!

I'm not surprised in the slightest KanaDai thought about Kazuki straight away when they realised they needed one more person, and I'm also not surprised Mao trusted KanaDai's judgement on this 🥹

Still, hello? He just practised with the other three for a day? That's absolute insanity 🤯

Also, another fan who watched SOI practice spotted him practising figures with Mao 😍
After the individual practice was over, it was Ultra Soul, and I was overwhelmed to see Tomono-kun and Mao-chan doing the compulsory routine together at the sidelines while asking her something... They performed right up until the start of the regular group number, and at the end he bowed his head to Mao-chan, so I wonder if he learned a lot from her...

I love all of this..ty!

Mainichi is publishing a big interview with Kazuki today, and it will include a programme announcement:

Kazuki is going to debut his new SP at Prince Ice World! I'm excited to see what Shae-Lynn has come up with for Kazuki for the Olympic season. The song they chose is pretty cool - I'm always up for a funky tune (even though I must admit, I would probably prefer an instrumental version in this case). :)

Comments from Kazuki Tomono, a guest performer at PIW!
New program will be performed!

I tend to avoid spoilers, but I'm curious! Is the song fast and modern? Sounds like it, by the name and descriptions above! I'm glad Kazuki is picking an out of the box song yet again. ^ ^
And now I really really want him not to retire next year, because a part of me is still hoping he'll give Singing in the Rain a chance one season. Or maybe in a show? :)

It's modern and upbeat and kinda quirky, but not particularly fast. I would call it out of the box by figure skating standards, yes - at least I'm not aware of anyone ever using it before. However, it intentionally borrows from of a well-known party song from the 90s (imo the song Kazuki uses is much better than said party song though - despite the reminiscene). :)

I could see him do it in a show - maybe a modern remix would be kinda cool?

I'm also happy with Kazuki's music choice! I'm not sure the judges will like lol since it's not a warhorse and perhaps some might say it's not Olympic season material. However, I can totally see Kazuki pulling it off! I like that it's groovy without being too fast (good for stamina).

Also, it will be a great counterpoint to Halston - In the 2023/24 both Underground and Halston were emotional programmes and many people missed the fun aspect of his skating. Well, no chance they will complain about this now, as this new SP is sure to be fun!

Here's the two part interview published yesterday, as usual behind a paywall. In the first part, he talked about his programmes, and in the second part he talked about SOI and his experience with 'Sillhouette'.

He also said the theme is 極 which can be translated as 'culmination', confirming it's his last competitive season 🥲 I'm not upset about it because I think his career will continue to flourish as a pro skater.
