Kim Yu-Na says Sochi result behind her

Even in English the word "baffling" has different shades of meaning. "I am baffled by the results" is about me and my state of mind. "The results are baffling" is more like saying, "no one can make sense of the results."

Yet she didn't say either of those things. The headline of the article takes her word out of context, and so is the subject of this thread.

She specifically said, "I have never gone over the result and thought what might have been." What is she calling absurd/baffling?

Is she saying that the situation itself - the controversy, scandal, etc. was baffling/absurd - or was she saying that the result (whereby she finished 2nd) was that way?

The headline of the article implies the latter. But Yuna's wording itself is way too vague and likely refers to the former:

Kim, who retired from the sport after Sochi, said once again the judging saga is well in her past.

"It was all very absurd but I was just happy that it was all finished," she told the fans. "I have never gone over the result and thought what might have been."

All along, Yuna has said other people around her are more upset than she is. She has consistently said she is fine with the result.

It WOULD be okay if she said she was upset, but I can't help but feel irked at the article's controversial headline when in the article itself, Yuna herself says she's fine. I read an interview with Irina Slutskaya in 2013 with IFS magazine--and she still doesn't accept the results in Salt Lake City or Torino (she felt she deserved the silver, though she fully felt that Shizuka deserved the gold). And that's her right.

Yes, and that after she skated her FS, she was really happy that it was all over.

Anyway, Kim's main message is, "I have moved on."

Indeed she has moved on. I watched about 20 minutes of the interview so far and she seems so refreshed and happy. She was easily smiling and laughing and it didn't look fake. She definitely looked younger and more vibrant at the appearance and the interview.

She did not say "what" baffled her. It is anyone's guess. Mine is that Adelina hugged Alla Shekhovtsova right after Yuna's scores came out.

She was also in front of hundreds of fans who she knows have been screaming justice for a week and two of her teammates who said they were baffled. She was in a position to play along. That said, she has every right to express her frustration toward many aspects of the scoring - why the short program scores were so close, why she received relatively low PCS scores for both programs, etc.

I'm glad for her :) She has a good head on her shoulders to not get all bent out of shape over a piece of metal lol. It truly was absurd, but you can't live in the twilight zone forever. I'm glad she is moving on - she's young and there's lots more fun to be had in life!<3

I just love the fact that in most of her post-Sochi interview, she looks relieved and happy that she can step away from figure skating now. There was an interview where she cried and said she was happy that it was all over. I can imagine that Kim, Carolina, and Mao all feel the same. But good for Kim to just leave it all behind- she threw it down at Sochi and absurd marking will never tarnish her final efforts. That's the mark of the true Champion, when all is said and done- what are medals anyway?

She said that she was baffled by the results and that people around her were sad and felt bad for her and thought that she was disappointed by the results, but it doesn't matter because shes happy that it is over.. She seems so happy so great for her!

Oh, noes, a headline/article suggested that a skater might be expressing something other than bland acceptance, even of something fans criticize plenty? How dare she! They're not supposed to have any thoughts or opinions other than, "I'm happy I did my best." Better debate this for 10+ pages like all the other times this sort of abomination has occurred.

I for one would have no problem with Yuna protesting the results, or expressing dissatisfaction, if she wanted to.

What I do have a problem with - and am, frankly, getting rather tired of - is a thread that uses a soundbite of a skater (whether it is the headline of an article or not) that is considered to be potentially controversial, taken totally out of context of an article/interview, as a header. In this case, it turns out to be a complete misquote as well - thanks to our forum members who have pointed this out. (This is one of the many upsides of a truly international forum.)

ITA

I feel they did this to Wagner too when she made her comments. I could never find their true context - just select quotes. Probably made her sound worse than she really did.

Yuna is so gracious. Some athletes *ahem V/M should take note

V/M were asked a question and answered it honestly. It's not like they went on a unprovoked tirade right after the event. Also, because you seem intent on ignoring everything else that have come out of their mouths after that, they have praised D/W again and again even to this day. They have also said that they were personally very happy with their own results.

Q: "How did you feel right at the moment of LP results?"
Yuna: "I was baffled, but I didn't have any particular thoughts at the moment other than I was so glad that it was over and I am still happy over that. However, people are still telling me even now that we pity you, it was unjust, regrettable, we are distressed over you (laughing), even though I myself haven't obsessed over the result at all."

Q: "Is that because you are a person who is particularly generous? If it was me, I don't know how I could've slept at night."
Yuna: "It's not that (laughing). Though I said before the Olympics that I don't have to win Gold, and I don't have that desperation, I did think, as a natural human reaction, that I would still feel sorry over not getting it, if it were to happen. But after the Olympics, I felt that it was really true I didn't have THAT degree of desperation."

Q: "You were in tears after the performance."
Yuna: "To be honest, even after the short, when I was in my room resting and preparing to go to sleep, I was suddenly just overcome with emotion, and I couldn't believe that this moment(the final competition) has come, and after the free, as I said in the after-game interview, I would've been a lot crying even if I had won Gold. All the memories of hard times and what I have been holding back just flooded in."
