Kwan Cut Practice Short

Emily hasn't even been competing as a Senior for a full year as yet. Where does she get this sense of entitlement?

Emily is overrated because she is Sarah Hughes younger sister IMO. That is my honest belief after watching her skate the last two years. I cant think of any other logical explanation.

Emily

Emily Highes doesn't have any sense of entitlement, and where you some of you get off implying she does, is beyond me. I don't even particularly like her skating style, but she has been nothing but a class act through this whole situation. I am sure Michelle would absolutely agree with that sentiment. If she ends up going I wish her the best.

No, I don't agree with that. I think she earns what she gets. It has nothing to do with the fact that Sarah is her sister. She'd still be where she is even if she wasn't Sarah's sister. Although, I think that the talent just runs in the family. She hasn't climbed as quick as her sister, but there is usually a family member who isn't quite as good as the other.

I think she deserves to be there. She earned her bronze at Nationals and therefore, should Kwan withdraw, she definitely deserves to be there.

IMO.

She should have skipped the opening cermonies. It was not like she had never been in them before. Why isn't her coach with her?
The Non fans would have condemned her and I don't have to bring up Nagano because they would.

I apologize that I can't find the source, but I read somewhere that the rule is that once a skater has touched official practice ice -- and the photos of Kwan practicing show "Torino 2006" on the ice -- an alternate can skate only if there is a withdrawal for unforeseen circumstances (and not a pre-existing and predictable injury.)

According to the following article in the Washington Post, Emily Hughes would skate if Kwan withdraws before the start of the competition.

Hockeyfan, you always have the best, accurate arcane information.

Being Emily Hughes

What sense of entitlement? No doubt she is on pins and needles not knowing whether she will be called upon at the last minute to jump in for Michelle. Who wouldn't be?
ITA, Mathman. Really, who here has access to the portal into Emily Hughes's mind so they can find out and tell us all what Emily is thinking and feeling?

Sense of entitlement--Bah Humbug!

I agree with slutskayafan21. Both Bebe and Katy Taylor are much more better skaters than Emily. But they did not get the better GP assignments, and they were not invited to the Cheesefest. Emily did. Sarah left school for a year and the magor purpose is to promoting Emily.

I'm a non-fan and could care less about that. It was EIGHT YEARS AGO for crying out loud!

I think Hockeyfan is right (as always) about the rules for withdrawing due to injury. But I bet USFS could wiggle out of it by saying that Michelle re-injured her groin as a separate incident after she got to Turin, or something of the sort. Either that or arrange for some other skater to crash into Michelle during practice on the last day before the draw, and say that the accident caused a new injury. (Sasha says, no, not me -- make Kimmie do it.)

MM :)

You are entitled your opinion. I dont understand some of her scores, and thought no way she beat Liang in the short program at Nationals, or Taylor overall who was underscored in both short and long compared to Emily IMHO.

They just showed some of her practice session on NBC and the press conference. I have never seen Michelle look so anxious, worried, troubled and concerned as she did during the press conference.

She didn't have the "eye of the tiger" look she did at her last press conference.

Hey, I'm just tired of people rehashing things that happened eons ago. So MK didn't go to the 1998 ceremony. big frickin whoop. Nobody cares. Now let's move on...

I really hope MK can stay in this. I'd really be disappointed if she can't skate and has to pull out...never mind me not cheering for her, it would be a letdown nonetheless. Hang in there...

I hope she's OK too Red Dog. She's gotta be there.........there wouldn't be as much excitement if she weren't.
