So sad that she's unable to compete. 
I was hoping that she and Sasha would battle it out at Nationals this year.
I have to agree with those who think that putting her on the Olympic team might not be the best choice. From what I understand she hasn't "jump or spinned" since Dec 19th and won't be allowed back on the ice until Jan 13th. I'm not sure that a month will be enough time for her to get 100% for the Olympics. I wish her well though and hope she heals soon.

I agree. She is not going to be ready and with an injury like that she is behind the 8-ball already. She hasn't had enough tests in front of the judges this year and hasn't even had her programs scrutinized by the CoP system either. Yes, she has had a good run for it but I really think that she should just hang up the skates and retire. I would hate to see her make a fool of herself in Turino. There are too many good skaters out there that are young and hungry for Olympic and World titles. I love her skating, don't get me wrong, but her body is telling her something. I hope she gives the USFSA time to send someone else in her place. It would be the only right thing to do.

Another question is, if she's not healthy enough to skate at the Olympics, will she compete at Worlds? If no one retires after the Olympics and before Worlds, whoever is on the team besides Cohen is going to have a lot of competition to place high enough to qualify three skaters for 2007 Worlds, even if Cohen places in the top three. (Even if one of the Japanese women retires after Torino, there is enough depth to qualify three for Tokyo Worlds.)

Toni, lol, I know you are not into sports yourself but an athlete can sustain multiple injuries that are related and unrelated.Tonichelle said:
If you favor one injured arm or leg, you are prone to injure the other eventually. I believe Kwans new injury is related to the old one but not caused directly by the old one.
In any event, the injured party is out of commission for as long as it takes to heal. I wouldn't get all hopped about it with glee for any skater.

Crossing my fingers that Michelle will be able recover in time for the Oly. As for me, a big fan of hers, it's not about winning anymore. I think that ship has sailed (although I'm still holding out an ounce of hope; think Miracle on Ice Part Deux). I just hope she gets to go and skate to her heart's content knowing she did her best.

Michelle will go if she's healthy enough; they'll give her the bye. She and Sasha are the best chances for the US to medal. The other girls just don't have the kind of maturity, etc that Michelle and Sasha have at all. IMO if, say, Alissa makes the team she'll be lucky to crack the top 5 or 10.
Well my interest in Nationals just took a nose dive. MK was my reason for my following FSing for over a decade now and when she goes....... None of the other skaters do it THAT much for me. I hope she gets a bye and is healthy enough to skate at the Olys. It is a pity that IF she goes she will be debuting her LP at the Olys, unless she is named to the 4Cs team. WO her at the Olys Cohen and one of the two other skaters named to the team would have to total 13 or less (better) in terms of placements in order to secure that third spot for next years Worlds right? Or is that is based on the World's comp? A second place Cohen and a tenth place whomever would still secure a third spot and I think AC or KM or BBL or EH could pull that off. Regarding Sasha's prospects at 06 Nationals, I think they are very good. She will be the best skater there and she has choreography by "that guy in Canada" as Johnny Weir put it and she herself said she is stronger now and able to fight to keep from falling on wonky jumps. I just hope Michelle gets better and everyone else stays healthy. I am also a big tennis fan and many of the top players are pulling out of the Australian Open due to injuries. Does anyone ever get hurt in Curling (Cerling? Kurling?)?

No one is mentioning what the Kwan fan base will do if she disappears from the scene now. For whatever reasons the fans who do not like Kwan are not overly affected by this news. Their interests lie elsewhere. But the Kwanfans do not want the sun to set on their Star. However, this is possible. They should not rule it out.
Will the Kwanfans take much interest in seeing Cohen win the Nationals? No, most of those fans are quite realistic and if Kwan is not skating there is no way she can win. Obvious. but I think whoever wins, the Kwan fans will not care. I don't think there will be much antagonism towards the new champ by the Kwanfans. Reaslistically, someone has to win.
Will the Kwanfans be upset if she does not get a bye to the Olys? Obviously, of course! Some fans who do not like Kwan will be delighted. Others will feel sorry but not to the extent that the Olys will be lacking a star athlete. Their interests lie elsewhere. However, I feel the Kwanfans will watch the Olys with little interest in who wins but will be happy to congratulate the winner if the skater is deserving.
What happens to the Kwan base after the Olys? It'll be as strong as it was after the 98 Olys, 02 Olys and the 06 Olys. That doesn't change. But, individually, I think some will pick up on a new star not necessarily one in the present scene; others will hibernate from figure skating for a number of years; and still others will move right along with the tide, but the will always remember her as special.

That's the difference between a fan and a non-fan. As a non-fan of any particular skater, I can just sit back and enjoy the figure skating, no matter who may win or lose and continue to enjoy and wait for Olympics. Being a fan of a particular skater, no matter who that skater may be, there is always going to be that let down when their favourite can't skate or loses. Sometimes I may come off as a bit snarky towards Michelle's fans but, but anybody that has ever watched figure skating through the years, knows that Michelle is special. Let's hope that whatever she decides to do with the rest of her skating career, that she makes the decision herself and not by her camp.

Come on, let's not be mean to Sasha because Michelle is out of Nationals. I do agree that CoP will cause people to lose interest. If viewers can't figure out the scoring system, they will leave the sport. I will always be a Michelle fan. She's the greatest figure skater of all time in my book.
