Ladies Free Skating - 2013 Trophée Eric Bompard

Cesario - I know it's tempting for folks to immediately throw her into the mix, but I say not so fast. Rep-wise she is still an upstart, and I can see a situation at US Nationals where a clean skate by her wouldn't be enough to put her over a Gold with mistakes (or even a Zawadzki with mistakes, as long as it's not a meltdown). So, unlike the contenders, she will need the planets to line up (i.e. get lucky) IN ADDITION to skating the SP and FS like at TEB.

Don't

But she is not competing in Japanese nationals or russian nationals, my God it is only US nationals :rolleye:, basically she is competing for the 3rd spot against Mirai, Caroline Z. , Alyssa, Rachel F., Agnes, she already did it better than all them, Mirai always get ur, Caroline I don`t need to say anything, Alyssa this poor girl is even looking to go to Nationals, Rachel I don`t know how will do but I am not hoping too much, Agnes is a lost case too.

Even though you left Gao out, I do think Cesario has the best chance for the 3rd spot. She also has much more potential than Gao in every aspect. .

you are right, I forgot about Gao but with the skate of today I have my dobuts

If you guys think Anna's expression was overambitious at K&C, Julia had similar expression when she lost to Mao at COC last year. Yes, Julia thought she was better than Mao.

I would too if I was Julia and I saw Mao at 2012 Worlds. Yeah it sounds ridiculous now, but back then it wasn't so crazy.

Polina Edmunds?! Why is no-one mentioning her? Isn't she supposed to be amazing? I have never seen her skate, but hear she is the next big US ladies hope.

Right. You have to consider the skate Mao had had when Julia made that face. She landed maybe (maybe!) 3 clean triples (IIRC it was TWO!) and Julia had more or less had a 7 triple program (may have been 6). I think she did not fully understand the power of PCS. Here, today, Adelina was totally clean. So basically, Anna made that face after not beating a totally clean skater. Now yes, Adelina is NOT Mao in terms of PCS but a skater of Anna's caliber thinking a clean skate by her beats a clean Sotnikova is not being realistic. It isn't like Julia thought she should have beaten a CLEAN Asada.

Please note I am NOT knocking Anna. She shows great promise and improvement and determination. But when Adelina is in she is truly special to me and, as shown time and time again over years, to the judges. Anna is still making a name of herself out there. Adelina has a name.

I VASTLY prefer Adelina to Anna- Adelina is truly a lovely all-around skater with great line, extension, and artistry. To me, Anna is little more than a jumping bean at this point. That's not to say she couldn't develop- I'm sure she will. But Adelina has a grace and beauty and balletic quality that I don't see Anna ever attaining.

This is coming from someone who saw Adelina for the first time in Cup of China and was very pleasantly surprised. I have been out of the loop of watching anything but US skating for the past few years.

I also find Julia far superior to Anna. I haven't seen Liza Tuk skate yet.

I have a feeling there will be surprises come time for US Nationals.:p

Yes... I see a few skaters already getting counted out that I don't think are QUITE done yet (although I do agree that Czisny and Zhang are all but finished)

I watched the tv broadcast on CBC this afternoon so I haven't been back to the board in a few hours. Can someone tell me, in short, what happened to Gao? I don't feel like going all the way back through 20 pages.. they didn't show her on CBC and I was shocked to see her in last place.

Falls on a 3F & 2Lz<
Two footed 3Lo<
Turn out on the 3F+2T & 3T+2T
1S

Her only clean jumping pass was a 2A

I never seen her skate before neither, but look at her http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TcaygaLUVsk , she could not look more junior if she try it, even some her jumps look unstable, I don`t want seem rude but If I was the USFS I would be embarrassment sending her to OG

Polina Edmunds gave a far better performance with better jumps at her second JGP: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6PzAhGwBBz8

As an American, I'd be proud and excited for the future if this young, talented skater with two great programs represented the US in 2014. She has no shot to medal (nor does any third US ladies member), but surely, the experience would do her good as it did for Sasha Cohen in 2002. Polina is a skater with world medal potential. If she has experience as an Olympian going into the following quad, that will be a huge boost for her.

Besides, Emily Hughes and Kimmie Meissner once represented the US as the best we had...you can only go up from there.

Nah, we had Rachel Flatt in 2009. At least Meissner was able to win a world championship...Nagasu was in position to do the same in 2010 but failed epically.

Polina looks fantastic here! How old is she? I am really with you in your reasoning Jaylee.

I love Sotnikova. Love her. She's IMO the best of all the young skaters (although I like Osmond too). The girl is the entire package. I love her big huge jumps, but unlike someone like Gold, she's a very good performer too. I love that she has some interesting spin positions and spirals.

I just wish they'd give her better programs.

As for those who say why are we thrilled, this is the first clean free of her senior career, and Adelina was under big time pressure too. It would not be good to lose twice to Anna. Also it ensures she'll be in the GPF. If Sotnikova continues to skate like this her PCS will rise too, she's a beautiful skater.

Three jump combos are important for points though. Sotnikova can't continue to leave them out! They are vital to accumulating the most points possible. The clean performance has a huge error and mistake of omission.
