Ladies go for Gold! Free Skate

Oh Sasha  I really thought this was Sasha's chance to do two clean programs back-to-back. I guess it wasn't meant to be.

Shizuka Arakawa (Japan)
Turandot

***start

3 lutz - 2 loop

3 sal - 2 toe (dbling those planned 3pls...) "Playing safe"

3 flip - GORGEOUS landing!

***violin****
lots of applause but Euro guys not talking

"Super landing on 3 lutz!!!"

"Only a 2ble...."[what? can't understand the guys]

3 sal - 2 toe - 2 loop!!!! BIG applause from aud!!!!

***climax to music**** audience applauding a good 30 secs before it all ends

END - "A BEAUTIFUL perf from Shizuka! Japanese flags suddenly all over the place!" "Only problem is the change of 2nd jumps from 3pls to 2bls but BY FAR the best perf of the evening. Magnificent!!!" THE SKATE OF HER LIFE - Simon says.

Eeeek!

Stut regularly post 205+ scores, unless shitz skates her heart out it's a russian sweep BIG TIME

Go Irina!

I am at the edge of my seat..

Now is the golden opportunity for Irina.

Very proud of Sasha of coming back strong, here's hoping to some kind of medal for her.

Don't understand Elene's placement. Frau, did the Eurosport guys say anything about her being behind Kostner's 2 disasterous performances (apart for PCS for Karo being a gift, but that was before Elene G skated?).

Sasha got only 1 point deduction for the 2 faults ?!! There's a judgement problem here.
I'm sad for her. She is young and will get another chance but that was sad.

You think she'll stay around for 2010?

SHIZUKA

3Lz-2l
3S-2T - playing it safe, not going for the 3-3s; probably a good idea
3F
2A
3Lz
2l- the door is open for Irina
Ina Bauer- WOW
3S-2t-2L

Beautiful program -- good choice to go back to Turandot.

That will definitely be enough for the podium; what spot? We don't know. She'll be ahead of Sasha though.

Seems the deduction rule is randomly applied. Not to change the subject, but Denkova and Staviski got 2 deductions for 2 lifts exceeding the time limit; but no deductions for B&A. One of their lift exceeded the time limit. Go wonder.

There was only one fall. The second mistake was just a flip out of her triple flip.

Or would she stick around long enough to be a World Champion???

The just made a little catty comment of 'part of the 10th-place gift to Italy.'

Guess that she was knocked on the component scores? But she is fabulous in artistry, I think. Oh, well... At least Joannie didn't get dinged.
