Ladies SP

Has Czisny EVER been the leader after the short? This will be very interesting. She usually seems to do well skating first. But the last thing she needs is the pressure of being the current leader.

In general, I don't think this is going to be a well-skated free program at all.

Czisny + pressure is a bad combination for the long program. I'm figuring Rachael and Caroline end up top 2 when it's all said and done. Then we will all hold our breath until Worlds is over!

So excited for Alissa at this point. Decently clean Alissa crushes any other US woman competing today, of course clean programs have always been a struggle for her so it's a huge if as to whether she can finally gain that necessary consistency. Hopefully this is her first big step towards that.

This is going to be very interesting because the SP has been Czisny nemesis, and she has been quite strong in the FP portion this season. But now that she's in first, I wonder how she will hold up..

Lemme tell you one thing though: Bravo to Botaino with working on her jumps. And Bravo to her coaching team, to actually bringing Czisny to the side and really reworking them. That is such a challenge to adjust your jumping skills this late in the game.

We have seen WAY TOO many wonderful, exquisite skaters who just never seem to put it all together, but I'm glad that Czisny is trying her best to not be one of those "Forgotten" skaters. I wish her the best in the FP....

Very interesting indeed.
Right now, All i'm hoping for is Alissa Czisny from the 2007 nationals. Sabrina. =]
If she can pull that out, I'd be soo proud of her. I'm so happy I kept her as a favorite through the ups and downs,.

 Alissa's in 1st?! Wow that was something I sooo didnt expect. I feel bad for my neighbors because I know they heard me screaming/clapping/cheering when I watched Alissa skate. She was stunning. WooHoo!! I laughed when Nancy said she was emotional from watching Alissa skate cause I had tears too. My boyfriend laughed and cheered along with me. I pray Alissa keeps this streak up. She is amazing when she is clean. Im just afraid her nerves will overtake her in the LP.

I thought Caroline should have been in 2nd. I really enjoyed her performance much better. What was up with the spin drama? She is always spectacular with her spins. I hope she is able to lay it down on the ice in the LP and kick some butt

Rachel was clean, so good for her. Sadly she just doesnt excite me. But she's as consistant as they come.:agree:

Mirai:frown: I sad for her. I hope she can pull up in the long. It was a rough skate for her. I wish her the best in the LP :love:

Katrina Hacker had a nice skate and I enjoyed Kristine Musademba's SP as well:clap:

Bebe when she started off I thought she was going to be in 2nd after Alissa after all was said and done(could you imagine that senario?) but she missed her combo :frown: I pray she moved up in the LP and I wish her the best. Come on Bebe!!

Wow Ashley.......I wasnt expecting another showing like her Worlds from before. Ugh. I really thought she was going to be in the mix but she's 10pts out of 2nd and 15pts out of 1st. Im not really forseeing a win for her. I hope she can pull up in the LP.

sooo many girls didnt skate like I expected them too. Needless to say the SP was full of suprises. I cant wait to see the LP.

Im torn. I REALLY REALLY want Alissa, Mirai & Caroline to win....BUT I think Rachel needs to be at Worlds to help get the 13pts we need for 3 spots. I just dont know if the others(especially Alissa) would be able to deliver when we need it. :p Im going to need to invest in Tums before this is all said and done.

My thoughts exactly:rock::agree:

Oh Caroline. You should be in second. These spin issues have happened before.

She's also had repeated issues with holding her spirals long enough. She's definitely gotten better at "obeying" the COP rules, but I think sometimes she gets wrapped up in her skate and just forgets to count revolutions or seconds.

Whereas there were no surprises in Skate Dance, Ladies SP had many surprises.

Alissa was on! and skated to perfection. Rachael, too skated beautifully as did Caroline. There were many skaters who all earned more than 50 points. There were a few did not do as well. All and all, one of the best US Ladies comps I've seen. But....................

It aint over till its over.

I hope Caroline really skates well in her Ave Maria program and makes the World team. It seems so silly to get a Level 1 for not doing enough revolutions on her layback since her layback is so beautiful.

Overall a prety uninspiring evening of skating. I'm just glad that Mirai didn't get held up the way I thought she would. I hope Alissa and Rachael stay one and two, if only to keep Zhang off the world team.

I was in the first row and it was awesome to see Alyssa do her triple flip right in front of me. Two more inches and she would have landed on my lap.

The 80's called and they want their program back (Hacker). A triple toe-double toe combo just doesn't cut the mustard in my book.

I couldn't watch but thanks to Kate et al I feel I was almost there. I'm very proud of Kristine - knew she could do well - excited about Alissa - and troubled about my girl Ashley. Can't wait to see the FPs.

It's not a surprise exactly because we all know Alissa is the best if she even remotely skates clean. I'm proud of her though.

This is the first Nationals that Flatt has had any pressure so good for her. I think Caroline is in a good place pressure wise.

First off...Thanks to our PBP'ers from this Canadian fan. You guys did great and thank you so much!! :)

Second...YAY ALISSA!!!!

Mom and Dad heard me shriek w/joy when I saw how well she'd skated. Dad knew I was following along here w/US Nats, so he told Mom not to worry...LOL!! So very, very proud of her and have my fingers crossed for the LP.

I've been a fan of hers since she first burst on to the scene, but after the way Alissa treated all of us that were at the boards after the Medals at Skate Canada in Nov, my respect for her just went up, up, up!! She was the only one out of the three who actually stayed behind to greet the fans and not a single one of us that waited, got the brush off from Alissa. She was so wonderful w/all of us and just really impressed the heck out of me.

I'm just so thrilled Alissa's been skating so well this season. As w/Cynthia Phaneuf's comeback, I also thought it would more than likely be a two year progression if Alissa came all the way back. This is a good sign and hopefully...There's more to come!! :)

Ladies SP was basically a splatfest.

Allisa was lovely. Tonight. But which Alissa will show up for LP and for Worlds? That's the question.

Haven't seen protocals but clearly Caroline was dinged for something just as Rachael was seemingly overmarked. But Rizo gets the nod for most overmarked. Maybe the judges were just mad by the time she skated with the crappy field and wanted to reward a clean-ish perf?

Here's hoping for a better Mens field and Ladies LP.

I am not surprised the judges clearly made up their minds on the placements of certain skaters like Caroline, Mirai and Rachael.

I had to go to dinner party, and so missed all the excitement after Zhang. (I was an hour late to dinner, and royally pissed off everyone, especially my fiance who waited for me for an extra hour to get ready. But it's Caroline! He complains sometimes I love her more than I love him.)

I must say that I'm pleasantly surprised that Caroline ended the night in a respectable third. But I still feel like the judges did her no favors, as Czisny and Rachael's scores both feel inflated about 3-5 points, whereas hers are just on par with international scoring.

But anyway, Caroline could've skated better for sure. Caroline knew as soon as she got off the ice that she didn't hold her spins long enough. She was a little mad at herself, saying that she was running a bit behind and tried to make up time. She would've been better off doing the full layback and taking the 1pt time violation. I think she lost one level on the combination spin and three on the layback. Even getting a level 3 really hurts because the GOE's are especially high for level 4.

But I think she's looking so much better than last National's in terms of execution, and also just improved a lot in general. The 3R had a lot more flow, and the 2A had some speed going into it, she actually over-rotated that 2A.

I'm sooooo mad with IN for not syncing the video and audio correctly. You really couldn't appreciate any of the choreography properly. And Caroline actually has a very nicely choreographed SP, with intricately timed movements that go with the music. And all that was lost...

Crappy video of Caroline's skate, but better than nothing:

I've no doubt about it, she's skating much better than she has been previously. The 3T actually looked rotated to me. The 3L looked good as well, and overall she just seems faster and freer. She really held the spiral positions long enough this time; shame about the layback spin, which is really her standout element.

I would love to see the rest of the SPs, and I've got my fingers crossed for the long. If Alissa and Caroline make the world team, I would die, just die!

Thanks for the link. The quality is... Plus it's of course out of sync, so you actually can't enjoy the choreography at all. Aargh!

I also think that the 3T and 3R are rotated, the 3F is most suspect. She can't have gotten more than one downgrade with her score. The layback, I counted 9 revolutions before she got into the pearl position, though that was divided between 6 in classic and 3 in sideways. If for that gorgeous layback, with classic (6), sideways (3), pearl (3), Biellmann (3) positions, she only gets level 1 and -3 GOE, then I think there is something *seriously* wrong with the way CoP scores spins. Really, seriously, seriously wrong!
