Ladies SP

Yu na was amazing !!!!
I think this is the best she has ever performed !!!

I got full of power, inspiration from it.

Loved Miki’s, too. She did great job today !

Also, thanks oxygen, for showing Johnny !!! :love:
It made my day !!!!

All I'm saying is Yu-na has lost that ethereal quality about her which was why I enjoyed her expression and artistry compared to her competitors. Now, I prefer watching Mao and Carolina to Yu-na. Mao was elegant and graceful. Carolina was stylish. Yu-na... her jumps were great and interpretation great but somewhat... I don't know generic, too standard? Being delicate and ethereal was Yu-na's signature as Mao's great flexibility and buttery light movements across the ice is. Carolina's signature is somewhat awkward jumps that she manages to save most of the time. Maybe it's because Yu-na is at the pinnacle nobody's reached before but she's too "standard" now.

I didn't think her performance was much different than at 4CC except that her step sequences were the best out of all her skates to this music. I think she's finally skating the steps sequences the way her choreographer visualized it and intended for her. IMHO, I think that's why she got that extra 3-4 points on top of 72-3 (what should have been). Her layback positions are unfortunate though.

Carolina Kostner and Mao Asada are fitter than ever and I wonder why Brian Orser is letting Yu-na go backwards. ***

EXTRA FLESH??? seriously?
boy would i love to see a picture of what you look like.

YEAH!!1 Miki was FANTASTIC!!! I admire her for doing 3-3. It does not matter it is downgraded or not.She went for it!!! Not all the skaters can even attempt do 3loop combination. What a gutsy lady!!!

Miki was exquisite. Beautiful performance. I like this program and music alot.
Bring everything for the LP Miki !!!

Yu-Na was awesome with this performance. That was one fiery performance. She was definitely on fire for this. If she performs like that for her LP she will be really hard to top.

I thought Mao was great too, just seemed a tad off for some parts. Not sure this program is great for her. Prefered her Chopin SP from a couple years ago.

Or last year's SP.

Fourclover, I think I kind of get what you're saying about Yu-Na. Her jumps and technique are incredible, but she's not a jumping bean. She has good artistry as well, but she doesn't float like Mao and isn't quite as elegant in her movements. She's kind of in-between, not quite in either category.

I think Yu-Na's best program was The Lark Ascending, where she really capitalized on her grace and the ethereal quality you speak of was evident. Since that first season on the senior circuit, her programs have become blahh. I think Miss Saigon was the worst last season. Did not like that program at all.

EDIT: Love, love, loved Mao's SP last year. But last season she had major problems with the SP as well. Her 3-3 was practically non-existent, but thank goodness she got it back by 4CC and Worlds. I wonder what her problem is with the SP. I actually like Claire de Lune a lot.

Yuna was sixteen back then, and of course her body changed. Even if she loses more weight, she will never look like that. Lark Ascending was a program only a sixteen yr old of massive talent can pull off. Same goes to Mao's Nocturn.

Actually Yu-na has (Cup of Russia) Mao I think has also only done a perfect FS once...

Mao has her own jump and long program issues as well. Like the tendency to get her 3/3's underrotated.

As Wrlmy points out, no matter how slender Yu-na Kim becomes she will never be sixteen again. If a slim sixteen-year-old is your ideal, you will have to find another one to admire.

or just get a better look on reality.

Couldn't make it to the Staples Center today, I am still in the Northern Cal, 300 miles north.( $600 worth of tickets wasted.) We will be there tomorrow for the Finals, and Gala on sunday.

Out of pure curiosity, what made you throw away those tickets?

Hope you have a ball tormorrow.

Random observation: Rachael Flatt was wearing way too much lipstick. Or rather, the shade was too dark for her dress. The first thing I noticed was her lips

Kim Yu-Na was brilliant!

That's because you been watching Octo-mom on tv too much.:p

It looked like Mao was trying so hard to hold that Lutz edge that it threw her timng off. Maybe she should substitute a differerent jump (like a 3 Axel :) )

Hmmm... sounds like a good idea. Are the ladies allowed to do a triple axel out of footwork??? Amazing, Mao can do footwork before her triple axel.

I know for sure the rules don't allow the ladies to do a triple axel instead of a double axel, like in Men's Short.

Yu-Na was simply divine. She's lost some of her fragileness, but she has gained in artistic expression. I really hope she wins this competition and the Olys.

I was all that impressed by Mao's SP, from an artistic point of view. As much as I love her LP, I just don't think this SP suites her all that much.

Could anybody please explain WHY Yu-Na`s PCS are so much higher than Mao`s with her Lori Nichol`s SP? What, Plushenko`s already come back, this time in the Ladies??!:p

Yu-Na is much prettier than Plushy, and she would never subject people to a creepy travesty like Baby Sex Bomb.

I went to sleep right before Alyssa's skate, so I can't comment on any of the top ladies. But everyone seemed to be getting generous marks - didn't Joannie get almost 68 without a 3-3 while some ladies got scores in the 60s with visible mistakes? Yu-Na has gone over 70 in the past, so I suppose it's not that surprising she was generously rewarded by this judging panel.

Tony Harding did a triple axel in the SP at Skate America 1991. She did it in combination with a double toe. I'm not good at recognizing elements, but I think the other jumps were 2Ltz and 2a (fall).

Just finished watching the final two groups, and let me say that Yu-Na was in a class of her own this time. Wow!
Rochette did a splendid program despite blowing the 3-3. Actually, it was amazing see managed the double at all. But she’s great to watch this season.
Mao – I actually loved her program (despite was some said in the thread – can’t remember who), thought it suited her, but I think it lost a little in her selling of the program when she doubled the Lutz. Hope TT’s right when she said: “no problem”.
Czisny and Flatt were lucky with their score. And as Eurosport commentator said: “that was a ‘Thanks for having us’ from the judges”.
And Carolina … man, I wish she’d get her jumps as she does in practice and we’ll see a worthy European contender!
