Lambiel withdraws from Europeans, unsure about future

I agree, no one has said anything about uncomplimentary remarks. How did this get into the discussion?

Most posters fear something is seriously keeping Lambiel from skating in Euros and possibly Worlds, and most think it is sad. Others seem to ignore the sadness and look to have him get into show business. Yeah! How clever!

I would pose to just say how sad I am and hope for the best which I thought this thread would do without pushing him into an ice show. Maybe it is only the feeling of depression he has and maybe he will get over it. Let's see before we pass on him to the ice shows.

As to MM being rude. Did anyone actually mention that? How did that get into the discussion?

I do not gun for MM except when I believe that poor Lambiel misses the one element in his routine and MM makes it a mortal sin because that's what the protocols say. I imagine MM waiting with baited breath for the protocols.

Painful emotions is what Johnny Weir is also going through right now, imo. and I am hoping the best for him.

'going pro' is not a bad thing and does not make a skater into a 'has-been', whoever started that throught process is one person, it doesn't mean the rest of us take it as such... so many skaters have gone on to become not only more popular but BETTER skaters because they are not restricted to that competitive judge butt kissing mentality...

I would LOVE to see Stephan go pro and show them a thing or two... Scott Hamilton should give him a ring...

I'm a fan of Stephan, and don't have an opinion on Oda yet, but Mathman did not say anything wrong...

Does anybody think that Stephane may be just a little bit intimitaded after seeing Brian Joubert do three quads at Cup of Russia.

So he may just be shying away after seeing that. Also, I think that Stephane may be feeling depressed and I feel so sorry for him because he is such a great skater.

Hopefully, he can work everything out and get back in shape for next season.

I highly doubt he will be at worlds, I would like him to be at world but I think that is an overstatement

Yeah, That's what I meant, its just that he has pretty much saying is that he has no confidence anymore

I hereby apologize to MM for much of my remarks. I realize the forum can observe various opinions and in this case no obvious opinion. MM or anyone else does not have to feel sad about the plight of Lambiel. I should not have expected everyone would. And since I am not a fan of show skating, I don't look at that as an answer, but it can be suggested without sadness.

Yes, I believe there is another Swiss skater going in addition to Othmal - not sure of his name.

I think we're all just a bit touchy lately, I know I am - I think it's because so far this has been a somewhat lackluster and disappointing season. With Stephane's withdrawal - and future uncertainty - it just adds to the blahs. It would have been great to see a battle for gold at Euros between Lambiel and Joubert, and Brian seems to actually perform better sometimes when he senses a true threat behind him.

I so agree with this - especially the part about Brian performing better when he sees a threat....

His coach said that they're still doing the training, so I believe he'll compete at the Worlds.
If he's not ready for the Euros, it's a wise strategy to skip it, take time to focus on Worlds, and build up the confidence. With his current physical and mental conditions, his chance to beat Joubert at Euros is low.

If he is to do worlds, he will not come in as the favorite, he will come in as the underdog that's definite.

It's quite sad really if you look at it, he is the 2-time defending world champion coming in as the underdog

he is an usual guy, he comes out of nowhere to win the worlds thans tuggles the nest season to beat plushenko then drops off the planet. I think that he never relly was a major skater if you know what i mean, he was a lways sort of undergroud and injured etc... he won the world titlle more than he thought he ever would do i'm sure and that enough for him. He dosen't seem to have the drive or the desire to be olympic champion etc like joubert does.
