not saying I disagree with your point, but cannot resist mentioning an exception … H/B last season World’s, 11th in the RD, moving up two places to 9th in the Free and overall…It’s SO BORING in ice dance. They NEVER swap places.

Ok there will always be an exception …almost nevernot saying I disagree with your point, but cannot resist mentioning an exception … H/B last season World’s, 11th in the RD, moving up two places to 9th in the Free and overall…
That's the reason I am not so fan of Ice Dance. The places go direct to world rankings and new rules - everybody doing the same. And that's why I like men and pairs more, because you never know happens. In smaller competitions they have used it a lot before, it saves time. I think it is best this way, because difference between 1st and 6th at the final group maybe big and sometimes when the 1st have skated and after that comes the skater who has been 6th after short, does not get any attention, if the skater(s) before her/him/them have skated great, is getting big applauses and it may also disturb concentration, at least if the last skater is not very experienced one. Well this may happen also in from 6th to 1st. Kiira Korpi had said in some interview, that her favourite place in the final group is to skate 2nd in skating order. I don't remember how she had justified it.It’s SO BORING in ice dance. They NEVER swap places.
But by then I'll be long gone too.Unfortunately, I don't think this will be fixed as long there are judges that grew up with the 6.0 system. We have to wait until they are gone before we might see fair PCS judging.
Wait, people want to change quite possibly the only half decent rule change the ISU has come up with in the last quarter century? People don‘t like that the skaters should get an advantage for nailing the SP?
The rule change may be hard to change anyway; the members misplaced their beepers so it will be hard to set up a conference for a while. Think the betamax machine is broken too.
Just take a look at Russian Nationals last year. Daria (get well soon) had to follow all that. It was definitely anti climactic.
I agree, it can be boring. But it does happen sometimes, like when G/G went from 4th to 1st in 2015. Granted, it doesn't happen often but never say never! It’s SO BORING in ice dance. They NEVER swap places.
When they did a draw within start groups, at least the final start group was a draw within "half the group". So one draw for 4-6 and a second draw within 1-3. That helps with, but doesn't eliminate some of the problems you outlined.I think it is best this way, because difference between 1st and 6th at the final group maybe big and sometimes when the 1st have skated and after that comes the skater who has been 6th after short, does not get any attention, if the skater(s) before her/him/them have skated great, is getting big applauses and it may also disturb concentration, at least if the last skater is not very experienced one.
Who is G/G? I know I could look up the results for 2015 (Worlds? another comp?), but I don't want to. My initial reaction was Gordieva/Grinkov, but they're not ice dance and were't skating in 2015.I agree, it can be boring. But it does happen sometimes, like when G/G went from 4th to 1st in 2015. Sorry. big mistake on my side. It's supposed to be P/C. I used their first names (Gabrielle and Guillaume), should not have done.Who is G/G? Nice idea actually. In fact, I would say it’s a great idea. Well thought out.I like this rule change as well, the only thing I might change is give the winner of the SP the ability to choose when they skate in the last group for the FS - for instance we know that Trusova has stated that she hates going last so with this existing rule if she wins the SP she has to go last in the FS.
I was thinking this as well. I think most skaters have a place they prefer to skate in the order.I like this rule change as well, the only thing I might change is give the winner of the SP the ability to choose when they skate in the last group for the FS - for instance we know that Trusova has stated that she hates going last so with this existing rule if she wins the SP she has to go last in the FS.
I tried to watch Rostelecom dance and it was so boring I just stopped.I agree, it can be boring. But it does happen sometimes, like when G/G went from 4th to 1st in 2015. Granted, it doesn't happen often but never say never!
