Lysacek Withdraws (merged threads)

Everyone is forgetting that Evan Lysacek won the bronze medal at the GPF. If the judges didn't think highly of him, he wouldn't have been on that podium.

let's not forget that this is by no means the first season that evan has injuries. Most other times, he dropped out the GPF because of hip problems etc... even wasn't 100% for nationals at least once. This year he had been lucky, but had some really bad luck at the worst time.

Evan said that he's been through three blades over the last few days, so there likely was some notice that things were going awry. It's this last blade that broke yesterday while he was landing his triple axel, and now he's injured his arm and shoulder and is in a soft cast. Lovely, yes? I feel bad for him. He's been taken down by equipment failure.
I wonder if :agree: Frank Carroll :agree: will get rid of him?? Kind of reminds me of Timmy!!

Frank dumped Tim after Tim started dropping in the ranks (apparently that's a no no in Frank's book ;)) as long as Evan can recover and stay in the game next season I think he'll be fine...

he could always go back to Ken full time ;)

Toni, I see you used the "wink" smiley a couple of times, so I realize at least some of what you are saying is tongue in cheek, BUT I never followed the situation with Tim closely -- did Frank Carroll in any way actually show Tim the door? Or was he even suspected of pushing Tim out?

I guess, if I thought about it, I always assumed it was more of a Kimmie/Pam Gregory thing, with Tim finding Frank unable to help him turn things around and the two having a more or less mutual parting of the ways.

I realize I'm kind of digging for dirt here, but if this is in any way true I lose a lot of respect for Frank, and I've always held him in high esteem ...

rallycairn, I apologize since I wasn't the one you asked the question but I seem to recall what Tonichelle is talking about. Wasn't it about the same time that Evan Lysacek started moving up and getting noticed that Frank dropped Tim, who was then dropping down in the ranks ? I definitely think that it was Frank who dropped Tim rather than the other way around or a mutual break.

IIRC Frank fired Tim and suggested that he would be happier with another coach. I don't think it was a mutual parting. I don't have any facts to back this statement up just what I read on the boards. I am sure some of our other posters know more details.

Yes, Timmy told the press back then that Frank Carroll had "fired" him.

There had been talk on the boards shortly before that, about Timmy having become quite disrespectful to his coach when asked to practice; I cannot personally vouch for the truth of those rumours.

At the time, IIRC, Timmy had gone through a great number of different pairs of boots (I think I remember about 13), and nothing felt right to him. There was a major boot issue of some kind, that appeared to be mostly in Timmy's head, as if the pressure of having been successful, had gotten to him.

As many have observed, it is easier to chase success, than it is to defend one's position after having won some degree of success.

Thanks for the information about Goebel and Carroll. I'm sorry to find out the situation was more acrimonious than I ever realized.

I always liked Tim and did not find his performances nearly as lacking in "presentation" or "artistry" (or whatever we were calling it then ;)) as many people did, but that's just mho.

i really don't think Frank will drop him. Evan has been skating pretty well all season, not his best, but not a tim-like melt down. He always gives 110% out there on the ice, something Frank really expects and wants from his students. They seem to respect and admire each other. I do not see that partnership breaking up for a while.

I liked Tim from early on up until his retirement. I loved his SP at Portland Nationals... it was absolutely breathtaking... and yet heartbreaking at the same moment. I think that was his shining moment on the ice.

sorry I couldn't get back and answer - but I see others have done a good job...

"Tim" on facebook also had some more to say of what ended his career and it wasn't just injuries... he blamed the CoP... but to me it read more like sour grapes... *shrugs* I don't think he ever got over Frank letting him go (I know I haven't)

I hope, in all seriousness, the same does not happen to Evan. I like Ken more than Frank anyway, so if worse comes to worse I would hope Evan would go back to working with Ken as his coach.

Yeah, gotta wonder if "Tim" on facebook is really Tim Goebel -- I've looked at the site and I'm not convinced it's genuinely our Tim.

Regardless, I'm sure Evan will be in good hands. I don't think Carroll will "fire" him!

lol yeah, I don't know if it is him, really. I haven't joined his friend list, but I have seen him listed in the "Johnny got robbed" group at Facebook. In fact , when you browse around there are soooo many skaters in facebook. The list of friends that Caroline Zhang has is really long!

On topic, it would be really bad if Frank would fired Evan as well. Does he has an up-and-coming student right now?

he has a couple of ladies skaters... but none that are nipping on the heels of the current crop like Evan was when Tim got the boot.

Whatever, he beat Weir with a lot of errors and Patrick Chan. Not a big deal. He was wellllll below Lambiel and Takahashi even with flaws, and Lysacek only had one fall in his FS. His PCS are consistently lower than the top guns. The judges are not crazy about Evan, he is not a future contender for Olympic or Worlds Gold in their minds and I think Evan is frustrated because he sees that.

As for Tim, I love his personality and his skating. I think Frank is a big jerk and Evan is probably better off without him anyway. As for Tim's facebook, I believe it is the real deal! I friended him and he accepted. According to facebook he is a NYU '10 and also coaches on the side - good for him. I'd love to meet him one da.

Is there any update on Evan? Or is it too soon for there to be a change in his condition?

Wonder if he will go to Worlds to spectate? I guess probably not, but it would be nice to see him and try to get a feel for how he's doing.

I think there is 0% cvhance Evan would go to Sweden. Long, unecessary, expensive flight. And heartbreaking to watch a competition you want to be competing in.

ITA! Why put himself throught that?

I'm thinking it's only been a week so maybe too soon to get progress report. Cast should come off today or tomorrow. Hopefully he'll ease his way back on to the ice so he can do the fun stuff of SOI that he's so looking forward to.
