Madison Chock & Evan Bates

Thanks a million for all the videos & posts you guys...
I love their smiles and warmth.
Cannot WAIT to see them on Olympic Ice today.. it will be EPIC!! :hap57: :gclap:

I feel bad for Madi and Evan _ the unfortunate fall but it must have been a struggle to skate your best at the same time battling an ankle injury. Anyway, here's another video about their love story from Meryl Davis _https://youtu.be/NKMD9-8WcPY

If it weren't for that fall... that would've been the best free dance I'd ever seen them skate. Absolutely heartbreaking, my mother and I screamed in unison when they went down. :sad4:

:cry::clap:
They skated with abandon after the fall... the pain in their faces was hard to see but the audience gave so much support..
Still love "Imagine".. for me, the most emotional skate of the evening by far

I am so sad. I just wanted to see that beautiful program skated perfectly at the Olympics, however they finished.

It sounds like they will go to Worlds. Maybe there.

Theirs was the most heartbreaking moment for me today. I love these two and Madison (maybe Evan too sorry I just haven't followed his SNS) has been SOOOO supportive of all her friends in Pyeongchang during the past week+, so I wanted everything for her (them). I hope they can keep their head up and still be proud, maybe after a while, this is a beautiful program.

This was such a heartbreaking, gut-wrenching moment. They've done that lift entrance into the spin a million times, what are the odds it would happen at the Olympics? Just so, so sad.

I hope they really skate it beautifully at Worlds.

From the Golden Skate article:

USA’s Madison Chock and Evan Bates were off to a strong start in their moving routine to “Imagine” which was highlighted by level 4 twizzles and lifts, however, both ice dancers when down on the entrance to their combination spin after their blades caught.

“No, not today,” said Chock when asked if her foot injury may have been a factor. “My foot’s been hurting, but I knew I’d be able to skate through it. The adrenaline would take me through. It would be fine.”

“It happened so quickly, honestly,” said Bates. “I don’t exactly know what happened. One second, we were skating fluidly and really well, and the next second, in a flash, I was scrambling to get to my feet. Those things can happen. Obviously, we wish we would have skated better. We were capable of doing so much more, but these things just happen sometimes.”

This fall resulted in zero points for the element as well as two-point deduction. They slipped from seventh to ninth overall (175.58).

“We were so close,” said Chock. “As soon as that happened, we knew there was no way. It was pretty hard, right away, to keep going. We owed it to ourselves and our choreographers and our team to keep going and put out the rest of the performance.”

“We’re pretty disappointed,” added Bates. “We know how critical it is to be mistake-free. It took us by surprise. It was really unfortunate.”

“I knew it was over,” said Chock. “I knew there was no shot. After working so hard all this season and going through so much and trying to stay healthy and then just losing it at a crucial moment, it was really, really heartbreaking.”

The team plans to re-collect themselves and continue to train for the upcoming World Championships next month
.

I was amazed at how well they skated after the falls.

Me too :eeking:

I hope that Madisson and Evan do not have serious injuries, they are incredible and I wish with all my heart to see them in the Worlds

I don't think they had any injuries from the fall, but it sounds like Madi's foot's been broken since summer when they started training, so the rumors of an injury turn out to be true. It sort of explains why they didn't look quite so explosive in the SD this year and were tentative at times, also explains the lack of Challengers in the fall, which affected their world standing, which then affected the group they were in at the Olympics. I think they are planning on Worlds? But I think Madi also needs surgery so the sooner they take care of that, the better.

Also, Happy Birthday to Evan! https://www.instagram.com/p/BfjCxwUnFnB/?taken-by=evan_bates

What a little toughie Madison is to skate the entire season on a broken foot.

One of my favorite tweets of this Olympics, from MichaelMacko, comparing Madison's SD dress to Donatella Versace's new creations. Obviously, Madi keeps up with fashion trends. https://twitter.com/MichaelMacko/status/967413381845213184

A number of fans complained about Madi's SD costume, I found it quite avant garde and beautiful. Really just love it - how she played with bold colors is so exciting and bold.

I am so happy that they are staying in for another quad!

Me too! I'm sure they will take it year by year but they obviously have the desire to keep carrying on.

I actually loved this SD costume. I like the other one, too, but this one was so much more exciting and bold.
