Maia Shibutani & Alex Shibutani

They look like they are having a great (but probably short) holiday break before preparing for Nationals. I wonder if they are going to be visiting Alex Wong for some last minute "tweaks" to their programs.

A nice thought for the holidays.

It was really cool to hear the CBC commentator during the Skate Canada free dance acknowledge Maia and Alex for their commitment to "giving back" and serving as good role models for the sport. They are very dedicated to the causes they support.

I have a cousin who was on the organizing committee for the Harvard Jimmy Fund Cancer Research show, Evening with Champions. She said that even though Maia and Alex have not been able to perform because of scheduling conflicts, every year they have always taken some of their prize money and quietly made a Patron&Sponsor level donation to support the cause for the benefit of the show. "Good eggs" those two.

Right now, they are in the middle of a campaign for Right To Play. Maia and Alex are athlete ambassadors alongside a bunch of Olympians and top professional athletes like NBA star Stephen Curry.
Anyone wanting to support the cause can give in Maia and Alex's name.

Maia Shibutani and Alex Shibutani’s media teleconference prior to the 2016 U.S. Figure Skating Championships. Thoughtful, articulate and engaging as always.

@LynnRutherford tweeted some quotes:

Maia: "I think our skating has reached another level since Grand Prix Final"
Alex: "We're the most prepared we've ever been ... there's not a doubt in my mind we will skate our hearts out"

Thanks. I'm listening to it right now. They seem to stay always positive and thankful for what they've had.
Best wishes for them at US Nationals.

Honestly, the lack of support from US Figure Skating for Maia and Alex, on so many levels whether it be with the politics, influence over judging and especially with the media efforts like social media & NBC as was evident and already commented upon by others who withstood the NBC Nationals preview show over the weekend, is really short-sighted. Frankly, in my opinion, it's US Figure Skating's loss.

With the incredible talent and depth at the top of US Ice dance now (with 3 teams qualifying for the Grand Prix Final) and arguably plenty more charisma to go around if they were smart enough to figure it out, they could be capitalizing on a great period for the discipline and the sport.

While US Figure Skating is mindlessly ignoring the Shibs and frankly treating them like (insert emoji), other sensible organizations seem to know a good thing when they see it. Maia and Alex seem to be doing just fine with just about everyone else in the world, whether it be the US Olympic Team or skating fans in what is obviously the most robust skating fan-market in the world.

Maia and Alex are the first athletes to produce their own TeamUSA "My FOCUS" segment

A multi-paged article with interview and pictures in WORLD FIGURE SKATING Magazine, which seems the high-gloss "Deluxe edition" of Japanese skating magazines.

I will try to remain positive and hope that, if Maia and Alex skate lights out at Nationals, they will finally win. They barely got passed by Madison and Evan in the FS at the GPF, with Alex in less than ideal conditions. If they perform the way they have all season, I think they have a good chance

Exactly  I want the better team that(these) day(s) to win. If ShibsSibs will skate better, I see no reason why wouldn't they win the event :hap10:

I want the Shibs to win at least one U.S. title and another world medal as well. Have the Shibs had all the levels on up to where Chock/Bates are this season? It may come down to the energy that night and what the judges do with the PCS scores. I do think the Shibs are better dancers than C/B and Maia has better skating skills than Madison.

I'll be rooting for them. They really have great stuff this year and I think they deserve first place.

I was reading the Skating China article just now - is that 174.43 really the highest score of all teams this season? Not even W/P got more?

W/P, C/L and C/B all had higher scores at GPF. Even the Shibs had a higher score than those 174.43. :scratch2:

Just want to say that I'm rooting for the Shibs to skate lights out this weekend. Although I doubt they'll overtake C/B for the gold, I think it will be very close.

And let's hope that both are healthy and no more food issues in St. Paul!
