Was that reported somewhere, or is that a general observation from the vids?

I don't think we have enough source of that, I mean, only one magazine article says but neither Mao side or other newspaper mention anything about it. so we have to wait to see what's going on.
Reported in the Japanese newspapers (in Japanese). Have to look for the correct link, but it was reported by Yomiuri, a major paper.

Different newspapers say different things. On the Mao forum people reported that some papers said that Mao will work just with Nobuo Sato, but one hinted that Mao might work with Nakagubo again in the next off-season.
Maybe now that Mao found a main coach, it's more comfortable for her to work with one coach rather than having to switch from one teching method to another all the time? And there's the fact that Nagakubo has a lot of students. It doesn't matter so much during the off-season, because all his students train in Nagoya, but once he starts following his pupils to competitions Mao would be left to herself a lot.
Or maybe Sato just needed something to do.
Mao's programs are ready, and from her performances in shows one can see that even workingg on her own she changed or brought back spin and spiral positions and improved her stroking. If Nakagubo continued to work on Mao's jumps, Satoi wouldn't have much left to do...

I love the way the steps are choreographed to stare right into the eyes of the judges. I also like how one of the male competitors happens to be in that direction during his practice. If I were that skater in his direction, my heard would start pounding, not because I find Daisuke particularly attractive, but because there's this crazy tango man coming at me.
ETA: OK, not as funny now that I realize that it's Plushenko. If it were Adam Rippon or something, now that would have been hilarious:

I honestly don't expect much from Mao at all this year, which is totally understandable, she's working on her techique issues with the lutz, and she's also bringing back the salchow. On top of all that she's going for ALL 6 different triples, most likely because she was criticized for this very thing, rightfully so imho. And not just her, at least she's willing to work on it, knowing full well she will have to sacrifice consistency in order to eventually overcome the problem. Kudos to Mao! 
I actually think this coaching switch to Sensei Sato will work out, as Takahiko Kozuka seems to be progressing well under his tutelage; his Jimmy Hendrix program from last year is one of my favs, and this year's program is quickly becoming a favorite of mine as well; funny how his daughter, Yuka, also choreographed one of my all-time favorites ever ~ A Day in the Life!. And since Mao reminds me so much of Takahiko in both skating style & personality, I think it will work out well for her as well. And who knows, perhaps she will at last fall in love (as TAT recommened) and it will show even moreso in her skating.
For now I will enjoy the music of Liebestraum, which goes perfectly with Mao, almost an extension of her. Good choice, good choice!^)

Or who knows she just might fall in love with a total ordinary young man whom isn't involved in skating. Like Janet Lynn did, though I don't think she will leave skating all together like Janet did at age 22 to start a family and eventually become a motivational Christian speaker. Or she could become like Peggy Fleming, falling in love with a doctor, and eventually becoming a t.v. broadcaster on the side. ^)
Nah, most likely she will follow in the path of Carol Heiss and Kristi Yamaguchi, whom both married skaters, though Kristi's is a hockey player.^D But between the two of them, I see her following in Carol's path, marrying a fellow figure skater (an Olympic Champion at that, like herself) and becoming a coach. Mao's personality seems to be humble & gentle, but with a determined spirit inside that fragile-looking body. It will be a joy to watch her over the following years to see what she does both on the ice & off.

I wonder if Mao knows that we aunties are having such a good time arranging her future for her. And we're doing a good job of it, too!
I selfishly hope that whatever she does in the future, it involves skating for some time to come. And, as was mentioned earlier in this thread, I'm impressed that she's prepared to sacrifice consistency for awhile to work on her jumps. This is a girl who has been praised like a movie star since she was--what? Thirteen?--and she still has enough humility and clarity of vision to know that she needs to improve. That indicates great strength of character. I can't wait to see what she creates under Mr. Sato's tutelage.

Are you referring to "A Day in the Life" - Jeremy Abbott's SP last season? This program was choreographed by Shae Lynn Bourne.
Lol, she did! I must've mixed her up with Mr. Sato's wonderful daughter, Yuka, whose coaching style reminds me of her father, thus the mix up. Seriously, Kozuka's "Jimmie Hendrix" program reminded me of Jeremy Abbott's "A Day in the Life".
I like both of these wonderful skaters, and therefore am very pleased that they are coached by both Satos!^) Mr. Sato must be very proud to see his coaching style continue on to his only child, Yuka.
Btw, whenever I read the book "Dreams of Gold" I think of Mr. Sato. What an honor it is for Mao to be coached by him.
And as I am a Mao fan, of course I will end with:
