Mao Asada news

What a lovely clip. I especially loved her twizzling, when they focused on her skates. She's just such a joy for me to watch, and like Miki Ando, looks so good in sleek practice clothes that I wish she wouldn't gussy herself up in those overdone costumes. That simple dress she wears for the Chopin this year is so much more effective.

I don't care how long it takes for her to get her moves back. I'll stand by her for the duration. There's no one like her. To my mind, there are two kinds of skaters. There are those who look good only when their jumps are at their best, and when the jumps are failing them, they're not interesting to watch. Someone like Tonya Harding is in that group. Then there are skaters who could enthrall you even if their feet never leave the ground, like Browning, Sasha, and Michelle. Mao is one of the greatest jumpers in history, but to me she's in the latter group.

I don't know if somebody posted,so I introduce you to Mao's comment after SP.
Here we go.
SP:" I don't know why I didn't skate well. Jumps on practices were good. Now that I have to change the way thinking toward Free Skate."
I have no idea her "good jumps" were it like,but if those meant perfect( no UR,two-footed etc) just like Mr.Sato saying lots of practices especially run-throughs will take her confidence,which means she has a chance to win national and to make Worlds tea
 
She's improved so much since NHK trophy.

I love her LP! :love: It’s definitely one of my favorites. Though her jumps were not back yet, she was so elegant on ice. It was so beautiful, I just didn't care about jumps. She is such a beautiful skater! And I love her dress too!
 
I'm loving the fact that Kozuka & Mao train together now. They went shopping after the competition, and traveled back to Tokyo together. And it's been rumored that Kozuka was very protective of Mao after her SP when people were "hounding" her for pictures, autographs, interviews, etc. Cute, cute, cute!!!

And I'm sure that those two artistic skaters will inspire each other to rise to new heights.

While I am sorry Mao didn't achieve her jumps in this competition, you can see that all the other qualities that make her special are still abundant, and I have faith that she'll rebound (there's a nice pun!) in good time. I have a good feeling about Mr. Sato as her coach. Maybe it's that I am so impressed by his daughter Yuka, one of his greatest students. If she learned from him, then she's proof that he's a splendid coach who engenders both artistry and technical solidity. Everyone always called Yuka the "skater's skater," and her beautiful carriage, bladework, and agility are the gold standard even today. May this all rub off on Mao!

EDIT: Not that Mao needs more beauty in her skating--she already has plenty--but you know what I mean. She is being coached by a man who clearly values meticulous technique.

Mao Asada has the best Spiral Sequence in the World these days. So far out of what I've seen in the Long Programs, she is the only skater who actually does beautifully extended positions with a change of foot and holds the spiral sequence out for more than the minimum requirement of 6 seconds total. I wish Alissa Czisny would re-choreograph that part of her program because she also has excellent extension but the sequence doesn't cover as much ice as it really should. That move could have more impact. Mao Asada is the current QUEEN of Spirals. :love:
 
I just saw a clip in which Mao is explaining why she can not jump.

She is basically saying that when she does not think about a jump, she tends to go back to the old timing, yet when she thinks about a jump, she becomes stiff and can not jump.
Then she added " It is difficult."

However she feels that Japanese nationals have been a very lucky comp for her so far. She just believes in herself and does her best at nationals.

There are a lot of fans who are impressed with her courage and genuine effort to improve her skating after winning worlds two times. I am one of them.
No matter how the nationals turn out, I decided to stand by her, believing that she will be the top of the world again with the out of this world skating that we have never seen yet. Ganbare, Mao.
 
I really admire Mao for putting the 3A in the SP. All these talks about her doing a safe program just to make the team is nonsense. Mao is Mao. She does what she can do. :thumbsup:
