The video clip reveals Mao's choreographing work with Lori. She explains why she chooses Japan Open in the interview. Then there's another part about the collaborating number with Caro and Joannie, for Mao's summer ice show 'The Ice'. They didn't say if the choreography shown is from which of her programs. But in the end it is mentioned that more news report will come re. Mao's EX number and the update interview next week.

Thank you for sharing!! I may not understand a word being said but I can sense the excitement going on and the sincerity in Mao's voice. This is going to be a fun year!

No problem! If it's a jazz number, I'm just happy she's doing one. That was one of the things she did during the year off, taking a jazz dance class. I've been hoping to see a jazz number from her.

Wow, that will be interesting, I think it is not official competition but it will be a big challenge to compete against Liza and Elena so early in her preparation , I guess it is good to know her state before grand prix.

Do we already know who will compete there?

So excited to see her back!

Last year Elena was invited. Liza is the world champion. I am sure she is invited and she loves to compete at Japan. I guess Elena and Liza are the most probables contenders.

Lovely to see Mao in that clip. She is so adorable and growing into such a fine young lady! I do wonder why they have to have that weird angle from the bottom up when they interview her.

So far the only confirmed entries for Japan Open is Mao, Satoko, and Javier.

.

That's an interesting question. Maybe, in this instance, it is showing respect to her. By shooting her from below, the viewers are seeing Mao from below and she is, as it were, put on a pedestal. Or... the camera person doesn't know how to do his job.

According to her coach, she will reveal her new free programme choreographed by Lori at Japan Open.

There was an article saying she might recycle her past LP, but she brings a new programme at the end of the day:cheer:

Cannot wait to see all of her new programs. So, her exhibition is jazz, and... totally guessing here, but I hope her short will be a tango, and her long will be Prélude à l'Après-Midi d'un Faune. That, for me, would be the perfect combination.

I pray your guesses are right for her SP & LP.

By the way, what day is Japan Open on? I know it's in August, but that's as far as I know.

Some news from rosewood at fsuniverse:

Fuji TV aired another clip of Mao working on choreography with Lori in Canada.

She also said that someone recognized her new Ex number to be Fred Astaire's 'Puttin on the Ritz.' She says the clip is very short so that she is not certain if it is this one or not.

She posted some other version of Putting on the Ritz.

She also said that she saw a chair on the ice, so she thinks she'll use a chair.

I love this "Puttin on the Ritz" music and the dance steps in the video. It bears a striking resemblance to Mao's Sing, Sing as well with the jazzy, heavy thumping beat.

Fred Astaire musicals have always been my mom's favorite to watch, so maybe there is some golden sense of nostalgia and wonderful childhood memories that goes along with the music too. Besides, I get really hung up on those snazzy, sophisticated and cool rhythmic steps and Fred Astaire's elegance, sophistication and innate musicality really fits Mao' s style.

I noticed that the junior skater Maria Sotskova who said that Mao along with Carolina Kostner were an inspiration to her also likes dong programs to American jazz numbers like her LP from last season.

Unfortunately, Daily motion is "putting on the fritz" (not working) in my part of the world where I am on vacation.

I would love for Mao to put in her magnificent spirals like the fan and arabesque at the end of Rach II. Hopefully, she can sneak them in somehow or even the cross grab Biellmann, if it fits in with her program and her back can handle it. Here is a lovely video of most of Mao's spiral sequences during her senior career.

I have heard about Mao’s new EX number still It is surprising for me…somehow, If it comes as a true number.
Fred Astaire's 'Puttin on the Ritz' and using a chair!? wow

CONK at Mao Asada forum posted this video of Mao teaching some dance moves so the audience can get ready for her Exhibition number: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tI3qpOeXYPM&feature=youtu.be

She also posted a video link confirming that she was in Toronto for 10 days, training 8 hours a day, while working on a new SP, LP a new exhibition, and a collaborative EX.

According to her Radio show Mao's SP number to be "Bei Mir Bistu Shein" and FP number to be "Madame Butterfly:)

Madame Butterfly---yes, fine, totally great, fabulous, no doubt Mao's going to own it, will be epic, etc. but, er, which version of 'Bei Mir Bistu Shein' will it be?? Can't imagine how it's going to look, but whatever Mao does, I'm sure I'll love it. It's just that I can't imagine how it's going to look.

Thanks for the information yhma fan.

I had never heard Bei Mir bist du schejn before and I really loved this original version of it that I found on youtube. I hope this is the version Mao chose. So soulful, subtle, snazzy, sad and scintillating all at the same time.

CONK at Mao Asada forum said that information leaked from Chinese fans is that the SP is with female vocal and she said that their reports say that the straightline footwork/Stsq is "explosively fierce."

I can imagine that the piece and Mao's skating would start out slow and sad and gradually become more explosive and impassioned until it climaxed in a liberating step sequence like Rach II only jazzier.
