Mao Asada

Is there any clip of her new programs or she's going to present the FS at Japan Open?

Thanks for the information figureskateobasan. I am amazed and so excited that there is a good chance that Mao will skate for another 3 years, but I don't like to focus on the Olympics because there will be so many more performances and competitions other than just this, and she hasn't been scored fairly in my view in either of her trips there. The most important thing for me is the great and entertaining performances that Mao gives that will live in my memory.

Totally agree, We fans always with you. Go Mao! :cheer:

Glad you liked the message, yhma fan, to cheer Mao on no matter what.

Here is a really interesting and appealing video of Mao teaching children how to skate, doing school figures, giving an interview including a few shots of her performances in The Ice. I love her expressions during the interview- so genuine, warm and expressive they made me melt.

I don't know if this is the same interview as the one at dailymotion because I can't open it where I am.

Since some people can't get dailymotion like me where I am now, I thought I would post the first video of a full performance from The Ice 2015 that I have been able to find on youtube. Benedictus. The most heart warming moment for me in this program committed to peace is when Mao smiles at Carolina as they are doing side by side arabesque spirals.

I am also reposting this message from mikaboo in The Ice thread. Thanks for the message mikaboo:

And the official YouTube channel.

I think they'll start uploading videos some time after August 2nd when the main TV station broadcasts the show.

That's great. Thank you for the information of the official channel here.

It seems that’s a really fascinating, worth to read site. Thanks gotoschool.

By the way, though it’s not from a safe source(a gossip magazine), the rumor says that Mao and Caro went for a drive to a beautiful park and had a good conversation about FS one day (maybe the day off from ice shows ).

I think that It would be great if it’s true since they seem to very close to each other.

I think it is weird that skaters are publishing photos on and off The Ice and Mao is not there . I guess maybe Mao is practicing between shows for the season. And of course my Shibs are not there for take the best photos and videos :disapp:

And yes gotoschool Mao ex are gold. I wish she comebacks with Tat for exhibitions, she did the best programs

Although I love all those TAT exhibitions... my favorite has to be her "So Deep is the Night" routine. WHYYYYYY was that not chosen first??

I saw this live when I was living in Oslo (traveled to Gothenburg, a 1 hour flight from Norway during Easter break in which the week was off!). It was beyond words. Just incredible.

I personally voted for Por una Cabeza, and I kind of get why Tat's programs were chosen. It's not that I prefer Tat's programs over Lori Nichols, but because Lori is still choreographing for Mao, I feel that the best Lori programs are yet to come, whereas Tat's no longer choreographing for Mao.

Also, I think Tat's programs kind of reflect Tat's drama queen diva-ness that unapologetically seeks out spectacles, whereas Lori's programs reflect Lori's intelligence, grace, taste, and balance. Yes, Lori's programs are so well-balanced in every way and they are truly great, but sometimes, you want something that's a bit on the junky side, particularly in exhibition, and so maybe that's why when people have to just choose one, they choose one of Tat's more pizazz-y programs.

Thank for all your responses chapis, gravy, hurrah and yhma fan.

I don't know if this has been posted on this thread or how many people haven seen this, but here are the results of the fan votes for the programs they most want to see Mao skate to in The Ice:

1. Por una Cabeza, 2. Waltz from Masquerade Suite, 3. Fantasia for Violin and Orchestra from Ladies in Lavender, 4. Bells of Moscow, 5. Chopin's Ballade No. 1 in G minor, Op. 23

Thanks to rosewood for posting. All of them are choreographed by Tatiana Tarasova.

Even though Mao just skated to them, I was really surprised that neither Rach II nor Nocturne were in the list and that Jupiter and Liebestraum were not in the list either.

I actually like Tatiana's programs a little more even though they lack the balance you talked about in Lori's programs hurrah, but I really like Lori's programs too. By the way, thanks for your report on The Ice. I don't know if this is true and I think it is a generalization, but I feel like Lori's programs often express the way Mao really is or wants to be (joyous, playful and ethereal and longing with just a touch of sadness sometimes as in Liebestraum). But Tatiana has been fantastic at developing Mao into a more dramatic actress by compelling her to express feelings and emotions that maybe bring her out of her comfort zone a bit (desperation, romance, melancholy, tragedy, and dramatic flair and fire) with the combination of both Lori and Tataina helping Mao to become a consummate artist, athlete and performer.

But, maybe all this will change this year because with Lori choreographing, Mao's SP step sequence has been described as explosively fierce and Madame Butterfly is the epitome of tragedy.

What programs would you have liked Mao most to skate to again in The Ice?

I would have 1. Caprices 2. Por Una Cabeza 3. Bells of Moscow 4. Rach II 5. Nocturne 2014

But, the choice is really hard for me to make because I adore so many of Mao's programs so much.

2. Ballade
3. Bells
4. Liebestraum

All your choices are great, chapis

Here is a photo of Mao in "Puttin on the Ritz." doing my favorite move in the program: a flexible and picturesque fan spiral with a cane behind her back.

The second photo is my favorite moment in Benedictus when Mao and Carolina smile at each other:
