Anyway, it's a beautiful jump and it's impressive that she's already landing it, even if it's <.

No the second picture is of the landing foot. You can clearly see that the first pic is the left foot and the second is the right foot.

I think judging by the free leg it looks more like the landing. It's borderline and visible at regular speed that she hooks a bit but I don't think we'll know anything with certainty from this video nor does it really matter. What matters is what she does in competition and unfortunately how tough the tech panel is.

I think it's good to see her able to land it regardless at this point. I think we can all agree it's been a very looooonnnggg year off :)

Oh, I see now. I still wouldn't give it a downgrade. Placement in terms of where the judges see it is everything, though, so who knows what they would do given the weird and inconsistent calls they give.. She got away with less rotation than this at Sochi (which probably should have been a downgrade).

Yes! And there's still time for improvement. If everything else is good though, even with < she should still be in 72-ish (with the flip in the second half). Here's hoping judges don't get crazy. But I wish she would add something like 3F+3T and do a solo loop...with both preferably in the second half. :biggrin:

That was DEFINITELY not a 3A <<. Some strict technical panels would give it a <, others wouldn't. The truth is it was 1/4 short or maybe a little bit more. It has been mentioned many times but, once again, people shouldn't start counting axel rotation form the exact moment the blade leaves the ice. If you watch many axels carefully, you'll see how most skaters have a 1/4 prerotation which is perfectly normal and allowable. Of course Mao does too. All in all, a fully rotated 3A has 3 and 1/4 revolutions from the moment the blade leaves the ice until the instant the blade touches the ice surface again. Here, Mao is short of rotation by 1/4, as seen in the photos you posted. So, it's borderline, maybe <. Personally, I would give it to her with GOE +1 because of all the good qualities which have already been mentioned. If it was more rotated, I would definitely give her a +2 for that.

Great that her jumps are put under the microscope, even in this fan thread. :biggrin: joking aside I am really glad that she seems to be in good shape!! :love:
 
With Liza's new short program choreography, I definitely think that if Mao skates clean she will beat Liza...bit who knows until the season starts! I just want to see Mao's programs!

:laugh: I agree. We only saw the first few seconds of Mao's programs and I was so enthralled excited by just that little bit. Liza's arm waving choreo can only go so far.

You're not the only one who got enthralled just by those few seconds. ;) Just a few seconds of that opening (I presume) but it already feels different from all I've seen so far...

Only a few seconds but it looks soo beautiful. I can´t wait. 3 weeks :cheer:.
 
I want to see the programs so bad and those beautiful clips only hightened my anticipation!! I cannot wait until the Japan Open! On a different note, have there been any reports on what her layout will be like?

According to this article, Mao won't try 1Lo-3S combo this season, and her layout is probably the same as Sochi season. The article does not mention SP.

Seeing her 3Ts in THE ICE, I thought it was very unusual because she normally does 3F and 3Lo in her exhibition.
I personally thought she might change the layout of SP.
Will she add 3-3 at some point in this season? I don't know. Just a hunch.
