Mao Asada

I cannot wait, either!

According to this article, Mao won't try 1Lo-3S combo this season, and her layout is probably the same as Sochi season. The article does not mention SP.

Seeing her 3Ts in THE ICE, I thought it was very unusual because she normally does 3F and 3Lo in her exhibition.
I personally thought she might change the layout of SP.
Will she add 3-3 at some point in this season? I don't know. Just a hunch.

I'm curious about the SP too. I think she will keep the same, but move the flip and loop combo to the second half. As I mentioned above, I'd LOVE to see 3Lo and 3F+3T (or something, maybe 3A, 3Sx and 3F+3Lox) in there, just to have a buffer if the 3A goes haywire. If she does add anything though it probably won't be until later in the season per usual Mao strategy... Though weren't there reports that she was trying various 3-3 combos? So who knows.

I think adding a triple-triple to her short (especially in the second half) would help her chances!

EDIT: I also wonder...There was a video of her doing a triple loop-triple loop combo a couple of years ago, and she could maximize points by adding the triple flip and a loop-loop to the second half. I don't think that's what her layout will be like though...

Her sister Mai said Mao had already landed 3-3 as of May, but no info about which combo she's doing.
I know it is not good to expect too much of her in this comeback season, but you know, she is Mao;)
She never stops challenging herself.

No she doesn't! but that's why we love her!!

In zijun's fan thread, there is an interview that someone so nicely translated and it mentioned that Zijun was influenced by Mao's style in her long program and Carolina's style in her short. Apparently while she was working with Lori, Mao and Caro were giving helping her with her interpretation. Mao and Caro always amaze me with how kind they are helping out younger skaters! :)

It’s great! and also apparently Mao and Caro had influenced Maria Sotskova’s skating style as well.
(Caro as her favorite and about 1~2 year ago, her mother said that Maria has watched Mao’s performances on Youtube almost every day since when she was deeply impressed by her at Vancouver Olympic.). Such legends Mao and Caro are

I noticed that post too and thought the same thing about Mao and Carolina being generous in helping Zijun, but I didn't think of making a comment about it here. That was a really good idea. The irony is that Zijun will be skating to Claire de Lune in her short program and that Carolina not Mao is helping her with her SP, even though Mao skated to Claire de Lune in the 2008-2009 season.

Thanks yhma fan for that comment about Maria Sotskova. I knew she liked Mao, but I didn't know she had watched her that much. As for Carolina, I have to admit her Sochi LP really impressed me, though I still like Mao's a lot more.

Here is a fascinating slow motion edit of Mao's black and white swan battle scene with Swan Lake playing during the fighting. It causes me to have flashbacks to Mao's Swan Lake performance as I listen. The leg behind the back kick, the air borne side splits and the front leg extension of White Mao rival a scene straight out of a Bruce Lee movie and I love those fierce don't mess with my sister and me expressions. Elegant vengeance.

Thanks gotoschool for the link, whoever made the video I admire her/him. It’s truly a fascinating edit, with the music it’s like I have watched something spectacular movie and what I like the most is that all scenes are really picturesque just like fantasy movies or games.

Maybe it’s just me but every time I see the black Mao that reminds me of Mao in the masquerade costume. U! la la~ (the position! )

As for Maria, she even said that that the day when she took a picture with Mao, she was not able to sleep at the night and talked about her until morning. etc..

At first, I didn’t realize that the girl was Maria. Girls grow very fast. :jaw:

Here is an article and photos from a recent FS magazine. In this, she said that "I flap my wings and will go my own path". she expressed herself metaphorically.

Go Mao :cheer2:

That's a beautiful way for Mao to express herself. I hope Mao can relax and skate with the freedom and ease of a gull gliding over the sea in a warm summer breeze. I know she will continue to inspire and reveal something new, though she has nothing left to prove.

I saw this video of Mao at a couple of press conferences. I was surprised at how close the camera people got to her in the first one. It seemed rude and intrusive to invade her personal space in that way, though Mao took it quite well.

The first part of the first interview is here. I didn't want to post the second part because at least one of the questions was very inappropriate, but Mao's answers were really diplomatic and polite and as usual she is so charming!

Has the video been posted?

Thank you so much for the links cohkaix. And yes, both her 3A and 3-3 looks very strong. I can't wait for the Japan Open event.

This got me all excited to see her new programs and for Japan Open as well.
I wonder if those jumps are for the short program to compete with Liza's 4-triple program. That would be amazing and she would score so much higher than Liza's 3A, 3T-3T and 3Lz.

If this is true, then I wonder what her 3rd jump would be. So there's 3A and 3F-3Lo. Will the third jumping pass be a 3Lz (would she risk an edge call) or a 3S? How exciting. She will break her world record if goes clean and also considering she is the most deserving of high PCS in the current field.

A 3Lo would be the smartest choice for her. And yes, with that content landed she would be unbeatable in the SP.
