Mao Asada

We arrived in Barclelona this evening, checked into the (official) hotel, and from our 16th floor room, I noticed a "flock" of figure skate fans following someone from the rink, far below. Used my camera to zoom in and see who they were following, and although I couldn't see the skater's face, and they wore nothing distinctive... I was somehow able to recognise immediately that it was Mao. She was patiently posing for photos etc with her fans.

A little while later, we took the lift down to the lobby, thinking of aperitifs at the bar before dinner... and as we came out of the lift... there was Mao, no more than 2 feet away, waiting to get in the lift. She was smiling and seemed happy and relaxed, despite "running the gauntlet" back from the rink, and so much "fan service."

She is beautiful...! More so than you can appreciate from photos or video... because if you see her in person, up close, there is an atmosphere, an aura around her... a silent charisma that is all her own. She has her own unique kind of beauty.

A brief, but magical moment...

Such a nice report  that got me into myself being more jealous of you guys who are in Barclelona :sad4: but then I am also very happy for you :hap10:

I'm jealous. You saw her in person. But I'm happy for you :)

I hope she will be able to express herself fully and skate with joy and free heart, Mao is Mao she can do it, I trust in her :ghug:

Please never do 3Lz in the SP this season Mao. But 69.13 is not bad at all, thanks to that beautiful 3A.

I loved Mao's performance so much. Her skating skills, steps, the incredible triple axel and triple flip and loop. So beautiful and magnetic with charming finesse in the way she pulls you into the performance. But, I agree please Mao don't do the triple lutz.

I think the ur calls on the triple flip and loop were overly harsh considering others that were not given urs.

I'm at the CCIB now. OMG I love Mao sooo much!!! She's so light on her feet, she has such a way of moving across the ice. Ouch that damn lutz!! I feel lucky to have witnessed such a beautiful triple axel, though. Ganbareee for tomorrow Mao!

She can still win this:)
everything she did other than the Lz was perfect

Unfortunately, both jumps in the combo were deemed UR.

I was really hoping Mao would've gone the smart route and went for a jump layout that would guarantee her to lead...(3A, 3F, 3Lo-2Lo or 3A, 3F-2Lo, 3Lo). Then she could've attempted her 3Lz in the free but keep the 3F-2Lo, instead of a 3F-3Lo. Then she would only lose points if she flutzed.

As my Momma always says, "You're older now. Play smarter, not harder".

Aww, Mao did really great! Honestly, I don't think she's skating now to win GP Final. How many of those has she already won? She's skating to be her best at PyeongChang. Hope she kills it in the Free!!

YES! We want Pyeongchang.

Can we talk about (more like celebrate :yahoo:) how (VERY) successful Mao has been with her 3A in competition since she came back? Let's not count NHK, she was very sick there and had no business even attempting any 3As.
