Mao Asada

Honestly, despite the rough beginning, she caught up and delivered. I'm sad that Rika didn't make the podium, but she'll still go to World with Mao, and that bronze medal should give her a little boost of confidence. :)
Keep fighting Mao!

beginning with Japan Open then Cup of China, NHK, GPF and now National
all of this performens the up and down, all those jumps and fall
do you think did mao peak early or not ?

her 3A is so on point this season even from early competition, big, beautiful n consistent 3A

On the contrary, I think Mao has YET to pick this season. She's slowly getting there, but still need more time. Illness didn't help at all.
Her next competition will be either 4CC or World (or both), she'll have time to rest and train. Something she didn't have with NHK-GPF-Nationals, coupled with her illness and weight loss. What she needs is to gain confidence and to feel support. We've seen, among other things, that her beautiful 3A is still there.
I believe she'll keep coming back. She's on her way. :)

How can she be so gorgeous to watch even when she makes mistakes?

Mao was so beautiful!!! But she looked so sad...

The way she was skating made me wonder if her back problems are back.

Hopefully Mao will do great at 4CC and Worlds! She's done back-to-back comps since NHK-GPF-Nats and now 4CC so I hope she takes it easy in between. I haven't watched her FS since I was away for most of the day, but based on the reports I'm glad she fought back after the two mistakes at the beginning to win bronze! :yahoo: Congrats Mao on your 11th National medal!

Mao was just beautiful… Some of her facial expressions were those I’ve never seen, I suppose.. She is getting matured and make me her another side..

Good luck for world and 4CC!:hap10: Thanks God we have two chances to see her this season!

Her lutz is getting better, a bit by bit. Hopefully, by next season, it will stabilize somewhat.

At least she was not sweating weirdly this time, so hopefully her stomach problem is sorted now. I suppose she must have had ulcer or something.

You probably meant Nationals, not World. But yes, it was sad and incredible at the same time.

Thanks for the correction. I thought I had written Nationals.

After finally seeing it, I have to admit Mao's Madame Butterfly here was one of the most emotional performances I have seen. Bittersweet, inexpressible and aching beauty. I could really feel Mao's pent up emotions pouring out of her. I thought the mistakes were masked by the fact that Mao aimed high by really popping her jumps with a lot of lift and commitment even when she fell on the triple axel, her edges and light, effortless speed were priceless, and her expressions, extensions and balletic grace traced every note of the music through the climax of desperation in the spread eagle. The few tears she shed at the end really brought the character of Madame Butterfly into real life because of the difficulties Mao has faced in the last month with repeated illnesses. fatigue, stress and some frustrating performances with the eyes of the world upon her, which mirror in some ways the hardships of the character she plays.

Mao did pretty well in the world of tech scores, but in the world of expression and artistry that reaches out and touches humanity I thought Mao was off the charts.

If she can just hit her jumps in her performances as well as she does in warm-up the effect will be even more wondrous. I think she made a step in that direction.

If a skater can make you forget the mistakes and carries on like nothing has happened, you know he /she is a great skater. She even said at the k&c "so good about the lutz!" And her signature flip loop loop combo looks really amazing here, one of the best renditions. I think it's time to cool down a bit and have some fun on ice! There are a few ice shows coming up so I hope all skaters can relax for some time.

P.S. big thank you to Mirella Freni who recorded such a beautiful Madama Butterfly! (She is also one of the best CIO-CIO San!)

Un bel di vedremo
Levarsi un fil de fumo
Sull'estremo confin del mare
E poi la nave appare

Mao always makes full commitment and participates from the beginning to the end of the competition season.
She is so brave that she lets people watch her learning process, downtime, and frustration although it's hurting for me as her fan.
I have not watched her Nationals videos yet because I would read comments and protocols first to see how Mao was doing and
then decide if I want to watch or not. I'm so glad to hear that she felt satisfactory about her lutz.

Was it me, was it the cameras, or were her jumps BIG today? The 3F-2Lo-2Lo was definitely one of her better ones in terms of rotation. You could see her commitment to get up in the air and rotate those double loops. And the lutz was just thrilling. Unmistakable outside edge takeoff, lots of power and height, rotated, and landed. I hereby declare that, as of today, Mao Asada has all six types of triple jumps. (Next let's see all of them in one program :coffee: )

And on that day, the world will witness beauty  and perfection.

Mao did good today! As I said, I think she's just tired and her mistakes are mental. Hopefully this is a turning point, and she takes a rest before 4CC. So proud that she didn't let her first two mistakes bring her down. The rest of the program was brilliant. I was also glad to see that the +2Lo+2Lo was rotated completely. :dance3: Rotation on the 3A also wasn't in question so she was just had a mental thing on that.

I just re-watched her free and noticed that Mao was hardly out of breath when she finished!! Her body is truly amazing in that way (as well).

Once her body fully familiarize itself with her new lutz (and flip), she will be back on top.
