Mao Asada

Finally! After all the time they've spent together during Mao's shows.
When she said "they don't talk to me" I didn't think Satoko was included :rofl2:

Satoko said Rika is her closest friend in the figure skating team and I always see them together so I thought Satoko was too shy to talk to someone else, especially Mao since she said she is always in awe of her and the aura she has on the rink. Hopefully they will keep communicating from now on especially as team mates until 2018. :luv17:

Though Mao will probably not be reading this, I'd just like to say a big "Thank You" to her for coming back, as watching skating has been more enjoyable with her in the mix.

Seconded! I've been a fan for years, and I always find her programs so different from each other and lovely to watch. I hope she sticks around for a few years yet. I wonder if I ever get to see her live; I'd love to.

I met Mao in Switzerland after Ice Legends. It wasn't at all like I expected. There was no large group of people crowding around her. Some of the people who came all the way from Japan didn't even know she was there at the after skate greeting. Mao seemed shyer than I expected but she was very considerate, warm, and so beautiful and natural looking with such a beautiful voice. She was very considerate because I gave her a present of writings and a drawing inspired by her performances and she held it up when I took her picture without me asking her to. I was a little star struck, so I didn't talk to her for long, though I wish I had. But, I didn't want to bother her. I kind of had the feeling of being dazed when I saw her. She is so dreamy.

Daisuke was standing next to Mao and he was nice as well. Mao performed Ballade number 1 but it was a collaborative routine so she didn't skate the whole program. I really liked the way they integrated the styles of numerous performances. Then, Mao skated to Madame Butterfly. What I remember most was how much emotion Mao showed on her face when she skated and how smooth, fast and gracefully she moved whether it was between or during her jumps. Mao is faster than she appears on camera. Her seemingly effortless and fluid speed reminds me of how Mao said she was trying to decide between being a sprinter and a figure skater when she was a child. But, she doesn't work hard to build speed, so her skating is full of deceptively fast fluidity carved soulfully with the edges of her blades. It makes me realize how bogus the PCS scores are even more. To be honest, she was moving so fast I even had trouble following her with the video camera. Mao also looks and sounds so young in person. If I didn't know, I would say she was 19 years old. She had very little make up on which I think shows off her genuine beauty even more. Her dress was gorgeous with a very artistic design. I was also impressed because Mao performed the hardest jump layout of all the performances. I also met Carolina Kostner, Stephane Lambiel and Maxim Trankov and they were very kind.

Special thanks to rosewood for translating some of my writings that I gave to Mao, which I indicated on the writings I gave her.

Photo of Mao turned sideways for some reason when I uploaded it to postimage.

oh wow, gotoschool, that's lovely that you got to watch and meet Mao in person. I'm jealous now. ;) Thanks for the report! I am amazed some fans would go see the show and not even know she was there. O_o

Wow a back Charlotte spiral by Mao! I think this is the first time I see her do it!

Mao might do Madame Butterfly again next season!?
I love Madame Butterfly but I want to see another number! And a different color for her costume, as well...

I also want a new LP program from her for the next season. Since we only have 2 seasons left for us to see her competing. I really like Madame Butterfly especially in Worlds 2016 and I was satisfied seeing that program.

Wow, you are so lucky, and Mao looks so pretty :luv17:

Wait, she said she'd retire in 2018? I must have missed that. :sad4:

Well she said she plans on competing for the 2018 Olympics, which makes me assume she'll retire after that because a lot of skaters retire after Olympic seasons

Mao fans, can you help me? I once saw a program of hers that was performed a few years ago probably 2008-2010 years. That's why I can't remember. I'm sure it was a team competition because after she finished she turned to her team and was jumping on the ice much like after her SP at the 2010 Olympics. It must've been a very good performance but for the life of me I can't remember which one and I can't find it. It's not the 2009 World Team Trophy SP. Thanks.

It could be the Waltz Masquerade LP from the World Team Trophy in the same event because I know Mao was really excited about her performance, which was outstanding. I don't have access to youtube to check right now.
