Mao Asada

Since the article is quite long and I haven't read it all yet but here is a great report of the IceLegends from Inside Skating. :yay:

...before becoming Yuzuru’s, Chopin's Ballade no. 1 belonged to Mao Asada.

Totally agree! When he had decided to bring back this piece, we thought, “Wow, how will he be doing with that Mao’s piece?”
And this time ive repeated her Ballade of Ice Legends and thought that even after yuzu beat WR several times, still this piece is shining with Mao (I prefer Mao’s music arrangement of piece with that beautiful melody line). We are happy to have such stunning performances by Mao and yuzu with that lovely piece. :)

Yes. I am happy they both could own that difficult piece to skate to and Yuzuru finally got WR with the piece.

Here is a wonderful video of Mao giving an interview about coming back to competition and her visiting the area affected by the 3/11 earthquake including her visiting the solitary pine: a great symbol of hope, a silhouette of which was projected onto the ice during her inspirational new Jupiter performance. https://youtu.be/enKJ8jzCQgo

Thanks mikaboo :)

Mao was in Thailand with the Muramoto sisters! Great to see her enjoying the off season.
Mao with Kana?! …not Kanako? (*'o'*)

It’s very interesting to hear and there are some questions which I felt like we should start a quessing game.
I have no idea about the cello based Bach music but I would love to expect it will be "Cello Suites" like someone said before.

Anyway, can’t wait to see her new 3 programs and costumes !! :yay:

her choice interests me so much! :hap93: (also my guess is "Cello Suites") I'm sure she will show us the expressions that she only can do as she said before.

Ah, so according to this article, it's "Cello Suites". She wasn't keeping the exhibition music a secret, but didn't know the name of it
I looked up "Cello Suites" on YT but it's 2 hours long so we can still guess which part she'll use (or is it obvious? I have no idea about classical music).

I dont know others'views, but i thought up this to hear cello music by Bach
Cello suit no.1
I find this piece a masterpiece. But it seems tterribly difficult to interpret and express it. But with her elegance and suburb techniques, it must be possible.

I can already imagine her skating to it :) She also said "a mixture of classic and modern" at the previous press con so there might be a modern twist to it.

Mao can pull off anything but I'm glad her exhibition is a more classical piece, I like her best when she skates to classical music.

I'm most excited about her SP/FS being the same piece of music though, this actually sounds so interesting and it's really cool that Mao likes these kind of challenges

I think this will be a very interesting set of programs! The music hasn't really been used in skating because it's for a solo cello and doesn't really have the grand emotional rises and falls that one normally thinks of in skating music. Torvill and Dean skated to one of the suites for a Yo-Yo Ma video project around 20 years ago but that was not a conventional skating routine.

I don't know exactly either. I know hamaguri posted Cello Suite number 1. I happened to see this video of Yo Yo Ma playing the Prelude to Cello Suite number 1 and thought this could be it because of the length of the piece (just short of 3 minutes), it's huge popularity as judging from the number of views and its seeming mix of modern and classical sound at least to me. I really love the atmosphere and swaying back and forth from deep to low feel of the piece, but it does sound like it would be difficult and draining to skate to. The tempo also becomes faster towards the end.

Here is a candidate for what Mao will skate to that inskate suggested which is a variation on Bach's Prelude to Suite number 1 which definitely has more of a modern rhythmic feel to it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ry4BzonlVlw

inskate also posted this incredibly beautiful piece 2CELLOS - Air on the G string from Cello Suite number 3 which is around 3-4 minutes: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9xn_r19xb_s

^No.1 seems to be popular! I'm beginning to hope that it's No.1 too although the second video suggested by inskate sounds beautiful too and would match Mao's skating perfectly.

From an article on Sportiva.
About the EX, she says that there is no storyline and it's a program where she can show her skating techniques by picking up notes from the music. It has a really fast tempo and rhythm so she practices it thinking that it's part of training.

According to the tweet. It says
"When Yuzuru had introduced Mao that she’s a legend skater, she looked beautiful, like an actress on the ice.
and then, when her performance started the audience at the venue got excited so much.
I once again realized that she is so beloved in the world and I am very glad that she continues to skate as a competitor" :luv17:
