Mao Asada

I'm wondering if Mao will take part in any more competitions this season. It would be such a pity not to have her glorious programs performed ever again, especially now that her injury is no longer bothering her and she can train more intensively. At Nationals she showed that her condition had clearly been on the mend and that she just hadn't had enough practice to return to her best form. Are there any ISU Senior B competitions that she could participate in?

I see that the URL points to Japan Times.
Meaning, it's bound to be another worthless crock of you know what, from "Doesn't Know Jack" Gallagher.
I couldn't care less what he has to say about anything, and I am not going to make money for him by clicking the link...

Especially if it's about Mao - he is the type, who let his undying love of a certain skater, turn to hatred and bias against all rivals of that skater (eg. Mao...) and apparently that hatred still burns, even though his idol is long-retired...
The article is half about Mao, half about Brian Orser talking about Yuzu. The link between the 2 parts is that Mao should go and get Brian as a coach, and explain why.
While I understand what he means, I don't agree with the idea on the fact that, as it was previously said, Brian doesn't think he can teach Mao. Plus didn't Brian said before that he is already full when it comes to students?
But I don't think he's disrespectful of Mao. More like urging her to make some (important) changes for 2018. Right now, it is true that Mao doesn't have much chances for the next Olympics, but a lot can happen until the next season starts. She confirmed she was motivated, so maybe she'll seek some help with oversea training sessions, without leaving her current team, like lot of her fellow skaters do.
Plus, the fact that she started to jump the 3A again (with no success but at least in warm-up and practice it is landed) shows that there's progress compared to the GP season...
Edit: btw what idol are you talking about? Yuna?

Mao come back stronger next season. The positive thing about being out in WC, 4CC and AWG is that you can have more time to improve yourself. Prove everybody wrong! Prove to everybody that you are still MAO ASADA!

This is from the Edge. Fumie Suguri's words for Mao.

Fumie Suguri had some kind words for Mao Asada after the 2016 Japanese Nationals where Mao unfortunately did not make the 2017 World/4CC team.

Fumie's Twitter - Translations by ohlovesosweet

“With the completion of Japanese Nationals, Asada-senshu did not make it onto the world team. About whether or not to continue. A few years ago, when Asada-senshu resumed her competitive career, we had a long talk at the Shin-Yokohama rink. I advised her not to continue. The reason for that is because I don’t want her to have the same painful memories as I did.

When I look back on it now, 2006 was my competitive peak. Still, no matter how painful it was, I have no regrets for continuing. Mentally, physically, spiritually, it was all a challenge. Reevaluating my technique and working on conditioning.

Being able to continue required working and learning about the company I work for. There is true value in pursuing something you love—such as understanding the true value of money. From 2006 to until I retired in 2014, I learned what skating really means. And now I get to coach. However, I faced so many heavy outside pressures and criticisms—being told all sorts of things from everywhere, I felt like I was going to break.

I didn’t want her to have to face that. But, in the end, she said, “But I want to keep going,” and I said, “In that case, I understand. If there’s anything I can do to help, please let me know whenever you need it,” and we parted.

The decision whether or not to continue is up to the person making decision, and not for those on the fringes to call into question. Just support them, earnestly. That’s what we should do. All athletes want it to round it off to that perfect, beautiful end, but only a very few actually achieve it.

Even the big name senpais from my company, Nakata Hidetoshi-san and Tamesue Dai-san, they all have regrets. I don’t think ending with good results is that great. It all has to do with attitude and the way you live. Ganbare Mao-chan!!!”

Not sure if I get the wording by this translator right (as English isn't my native language) but what Fumie actually wrote is ending on a high note isn't the only thing that is deemed splendid.

I just came back from a trip to Osaka (just sightseeing, I am not there to watch Nationals lol). And I have seen Mao everywhere; on TV, subway, ad boards etc! She has more public appearance than Yuzuru and other Japanese celebrities!

And I definitely want to see her program again! It is a masterful artwork. A wonderful theme, perfect choreography (Great job Lori, you surprised me this time), unmatched artistry. Her routine (SP+FS+EX) is on an entirely different level than the others. The refined quality, skating skills (the step sequences and the CHOREO SEQUENCE!!!) and extensions. Who else can top her now? (Carolina is a tie though)

I hope she will participate in ice shows (like the special NHK Ex this January) and perform not only her EX but also her SP and FS. She does not even need to jump, just skate the program it is already a gem.

There is World Team Trophy this season right? So maybe there is still a chance...?

Mao is the only skater that makes me want to skate after watching her skate. She has the magic that the others don't possess. It is the magic to attract you to skating. Only the best of the best skaters are able to do this.

Can you guys really imagine Brian Orser sitting next to Mao holding her Teddy bear in K&Cs ? I can’t. It could be cute but I really can’t.

I don't think Mao needed Coach Brian. She did become world champion and and Olympic Medalist without Brian coaching her, she can do it again.

What Mao needs is a sports psychologist. Her issues are largely mental. Even if her injury is limiting her jumps, a doctor could help with other things like letting go of the triple flip + triple loop combo because it's never getting credited, doing a loop instead of a lutz as her solo jump because she will never be given the benefit of the doubt, and just helping her be more emotional competent.
