Mao Shimada has accomplished something truly extraordinary and unprecdented looked at in the broad prospective of this her 4th and final season in Juniors. Namely, she has won every Junior Grand Prix and Worlds championship she has entered (a total of 21 in a row) and only her own federation's extreme relative deflation in PCS has prevented her from in my view rightfully winning Nationals the last two seasons. Meanwhile, she has successfully endured the extreme changes in the age rules which have forced her to miss this Olympics and likely made her the oldest champion skater ever to be denied entry based on age. Her mental fortitude and consistency in the face of these huge obstacles is amazing and caused me to focus a lot more on Juniors skaters now.
