Mao's Flip

well, the poster involved is a Yu na fan. Sadly, Mao and Yu-na fans on you tube are posting all kinds of videos accusing the other of cheating....I may prefer Yu-na, but I'm not okay with people making video's like that about Mao.. I'm not accusing you, I'm just saying the source on youtube is a bit biased.

I care nothing for the whole Mao vs Kim debacle, and I'll be the first to admit that I'm not an expert on jumps or jumping technique, but isn't Mao's flip cheated in that clip, though? Her body turns quite a bit before her blades leave the ice; isn't that pre-rotation?

This was at Counter Match, right? I think that she messed up the flip takeoff (as can be seen in the clip), and that's what sort of rattled her and made her leave the loop off of the end. Her flip is usually fine.

That's what I figured. It's basically what these people do. Every skater messes up once in awhile, and they take the mess up and post it. It's just not right, and really bad for the sport. (I know that I'm according to everyone a big Yu-na fan, but that doesn't mean I'm okay with Mao being defamed. There is more than enough room in skating for both girls)

By the way, these videos are helpful to casual skating fans, I have to say.
I learned about lips, flutzs, and etc from them.

I have too, but there's a mean spirtedness about them, which I don't like. If it was here's Mao doing a perfect triple flip, and Here's Mao doing a wrong I wouldn't mind. But the intention behind the video isn't great.

No, she always does this.

Lots of skaters always do this and I thought we had gone over the topic and it was understood now -- ALL jumps pre-rotate up to a half turn.

It makes sense for her to jump that way--the flip and the loop have very similar mechanics.

Wouldn't the anti-Maos have picked up on this earlier if she did this regularly? And I thought that the point was never conclusively resolved- while the prerotation on the loop jump is pretty obvious for all skaters, I fail to see how there's any pre-rotation on properly done lutzes, for example.

I see what you mean.
But if it weren't for this rivalry and conflicts among the fans, I would not be intrigued enough to look up one of these videos or there would be no videos in the first place.

So a big thank you to all you real fans and sore losers out there!!!

We should call her flip jump, Floop! I actually noticed this a while back.. I wonder who taught her jumps, She used to have a toe-axel problem and she still flutzes badly. It's not Mao's fault though. Whoever was getting paid to teach Mao how to do all these jumps was neglected to teach her the proper jumps.

wow... went back to check plushenko's olympic performances with the above link.... what excellence... that 4/3/2 in the long with those other perfectly done triples... and the short was something... held on to that 4/3 like someone with superb edge control! and how about that 3 axel! probably got +3GOEs it was so good. i think i appreciate what he did now more then at the olympics.

I'm kind of frustrated about all those "prerotation" things...
I am a skater and that's a technique....
look, my coach always says to me to "swivel" before jumping...some skaters like Yu-Na doesn't need to do this but that's all right! But Mao's technique is all right also!! About half of the skaters do this technique and they are not cheating...
