Mariah Bell

I was so happy I was there to be able to share in her exciting moment! I was also glad to see that it appears that there are no hard feelings between her and Rohene, now that she has gone to a different coach. Rohene looked super proud, as he well should have! I thought the choreogrphy for both programs fit her so well!...The only thing I wish I could change would be that she has some really beautiful moves (spirals in particular), and I wish she would hold them a little bit longer so we could enjoy them even more!

ETA -- Oops, I see I made the same remark about holding moves on 7-31.

I don't think it's even a question that she will receive a second grand prix event.

I really hope you're right! :) I first saw her at 2014 Nationals and have been following her since. She had a frustrating Nationals last year and was pretty disappointed, I think. Hope this will give her a good confidence boost.

Me too! I first started following her a year ago after Skate America 2015 in Milwaukee and since then she has become my favorite skater! So much so that I've even made a fan page for her on Instagram (mariah_bell_fanpage). She just always seems to give it her all and skates with such determination.

Thx for sharing that. I'll have to look at the Instagram page. She is very special! Any predictions as to which other Grand Prix event you think she might get?

That would be great! :) Looking at the women's fields at each completion I hope that she gets Rostelcom which I think might also be possible given the potential of Lipnitskaya's injuries.

Interesting. We'll have to cross our fingers for that!...I had such a great time at Skate America and leave Thurs. for Skate Canada. I'm still exhausted from SA, but I think SC is going to be a great competition too. I had never gone to competition practices before and really enjoyed doing that for the first time!

Oh you're lucky to get to go to SC! This was also my first time attending practice sessions but I loved it and was able to talk with Mariah and the rest of her family a few times :)

Oh that's great! It's always a special moment when you get to talk to your favorites. I bumped into Nobunari Oda from Japan who is retired now but recently skated at the Japan Open, and I talked for just a few seconds to Ashley Wagner. Saw Nathan Chen. He must have been there sizing up his competition! :)

I love the Instagram page. It reminded me of how beautiful Mariah is. What I also like is that she doesn't overdo her makeup. She has a nice, natural look. Did you take all of those photos? I was so disappointed with the different photos I took. I used either my (crummy) camera or my Kindle, and I didn't think either one did well. Maybe the lighting in there was too weird. Plus I had my flash turned off (of course). Mostly I was trying to get photos of Shoma and Jason.

I finally had time to watch her FS at Skate America! I'm not surprised at all because she has always had everything it takes to be in the final flight in any competition and her interpretation is the most endearing of the American skaters. She's just honest on the ice and doesn't oversell or undersell a program. Finally the stars aligned in a GP event and others are starting to take notice

I don't care if she doesn't get another spot on the GP so long as she makes the podium at US Nationals which in my opinion is long overdue!!

Go Mariah!!! Finally we have a skater who rivals the cuteness of Kanako in the KnC

Everything just seemed so light and airy - like she was just floating across the ice. Plus I love the East of Eden music. I imagine some people think of it as a war horse, but I love it!

Would be thrilled to see her on the podium in Kansas City!

Could anyone clarify if Mariah could get Polina's spot at NHK? And why USA didn't retain Polina's spot at CoR?

The host federation has control over replacing any vacant spots and do not have to replace one skater with another skater from the same country. Mariah received the open Skate America spot because USFS was the host federation (and a wise decision they made). :)

Thanks for clarifying this. So there is no hope for Mariah to get a second GP? :(

Thanks so much! You were my 100th follower. I agree it's nice that she doesn't overdo on the makeup. She just looks very happy and natural!

There's always hope, but there's no guarantee. :)

I think that's why the USFS assigned her to Tallinn -- to give her more international experience before nationals if she doesn't get a second GP.
