Re: I am claiming the nicest prize

Hey, who put the z right here next to the x on my keyboard to trick me into making a mistakw?

I am going to be pretty hoarse, cheering for Ye Bin Mok AND Carolina Kostner, along with my other favorites, Cohen, Volchkova, Arakawa, Bellemare, Currie, Poykio, Nakano, nelidina, Maniachenko and Kirk!

Re: Mathman (and others) -- see if you can solve this one!

Ptichka, well, I can see that I'm going to have to bring out the big guns here. Oh, have I got a problem for you, just wait and see!

In the mean time -- Ta da! You crushed my best efforts to pose a stumper. What skater shall we honor in your name, and when is his/her birthday?

Re: I am claiming the nicest prize

Hey, Mathman, why did you ignore my attempt to solve your 2nd question???!!! Hmmm, I guess because it was wrong...

Anyway, my guess is Mersenne. Am I right?

Name the mystery composer

He was a priest with flaming red hair.

He taught violin at an orphange for girls

One of his famous pieces of music is a faithful work horse for many skating programs.

Re: I am claiming the nicest prize

Yes! I won, I won, I won!!! :rollin:

Hmmm, whom would I like to honor... I'll choose Belbin & Agosto! Let's stick to Tanith's birthday, which is 7/11. If that's too soon, then Ben's BD is 1/15. Their address is:

Tanith Belbin & Benjamin Agosto
c/o Detroit Skating Club
888 Denison Court
Bloomfield Hills, MI 48302

When it comes to money, what do Beethoven and the Beatles have in common?

Name a piece of music from each that has an unit of money in the title (same unit in both titles) , e.g. a shilling is a unit, a dime is a unit

Re: Congrats cyn, here is one more

I know the answer, but since I got the last one, I'll defer.

Elta, they're delicious (and so lo-cal, too!) :rollin:

Re: Is this the answer?

Quote:
When it comes to money, what do Beethoven and the Beatles have in common?
I know this one; at least I immediately knew the Beatles part, I had to dig for the Beethoven piece. (Course knowing the unit made the search easier)

The Beatles - Penny Lane
One of my favorites but then I do say the same thing no matter what Beatles song is playing.

Beethovan - Rage Over A Lost Penny, Rondo A Capriccio In G Major Op. 129
Not in my Beethoven top ten but I wouldn't turn it off either.

Am I right? Am I right? Huh! Huh! I'm so excited, this is the first answer to a question in the thread I knew. Now I don't feel like a dope.

4dk:p

Re: Is this the answer?

Eltamina, I need your help to select a nice CD for Belbin and Agosto, courtesy of Ptichka. Something a little dancy? Do you have any suggestions?

Gold coins, golden goblet & cure for insomnia

4Dk, congrats, yes Penny Lane and Rage over a lost penny

BTW, folks thanks for participating. From time to time I will post a trivia question with a real prize ( a cd sent to your favorite skater for his/her birthday) so please stay tune.

Here is another one for you

Name the mystery composer, the instrumentalist, the count, and the piece of music.

Count ---------- suffered from insomnia. He asked our mystery composer to write some pieces of music for his favorite instrumentalist to play for him at night. Our mystery composer wrote the following -------- ---------- . It was one of the monumental pieces of music ever written. The instrumentalist was a child prodigy of 14 !!! Count ---------- was so impressed with the music, he gave our mystery composer a golden goblet filled with louis d'or coins.

I can't give you any golden goblet, or gold coins

Answer this question for a virtual Hershey's gold tower

PS Ptichka and Mathman, you should keep posting your math trivia here too. Of course limit that to my 5th grade size brain.

PPS Folks please feel free to post your non skating trivia here, it is just for fun!!

Freddy and Mathman

Mathman, initially I thought of symphonie Fantastique. It is dramatic, and the second movement un bal is dancy. On second thought it is not a good piece of music for a fan to send to a skater. I am stump for now. But if you want to send good music w/o being dancy, I think Vaughan Williams Lark Ascending, Variation on a theme of Thomas Tallis, English Folk song sute etc are good.

Yeoh Freddy, SERIOUS you need to give me Michelle Kwan's address, and finish her birthday poem. Her Bday is 7/7, I don't have much time. BTW, what is Shep's address, is that the best place to send the cds?

Re: Freddy and Mathman

Yes, I think it is best to write to MK at Mr. Goldberg's business address:

Proper Marketing Associates
39555 Orchard Hill Place
Novi, Michigan 48375
(24:cool: 465-1100

Oh, golly, about the poem. I think you will have to go without one this time. I have tried and tried. I can write a poem about anything else at the drop of a hat:

"On Love

"I love my pipe and my tobacky,
And I love you, I do, by cracky.

"I can't write purdy 'cuz I ain't a poet,
But I love you and don't I know it.

"If you ditched me I shore would pine,
So I hope you'll be my Valentine."

But when it comes to Michelle, I just get all tongue-tied and stutter-y. Here is all I have so far:

M' M' M'chelle
you're sw' sw' sw' swell.

See?

Sorry.

Freddy

Quote:
Mr. Goldberg's business address
Freddy you got the answer to another music trivia again. Goldberg is the answer.

The mystery composer was Bach, the prodigy was Goldberg, and the 30 variations / changes were named after this 14 y/o kid. The Goldberg variation. :)

Count Kaiserling's insomnia was cured by Bach's music, so he gave Bach a golden Goblet filled with gold coins.

If you are still open to suggestion, take a look at the Italian folk dance the tarantella (spider dance). Many composers had written tarantella including Chopin, and Liszt.

www.streetswing.com/histm...tartla.htm

It is a very interesting dance, and it is considered to be bad luck to dance alone to tarantella. I think it will be good for Tanith and Ben.

I love the naxos cd

Celebre Tarantelle is cute, upbeat, quirky, and dancy. If you join www.naxos.com, you can listen to this cd on the net. I think it is worth the time and effort to check out this piece.

There is also a 2 cd Chandos set on the Strauss family waltz, polka etc. (listed at Berkshire) You can never go wrong with the Strauss family, their music bring so much joy to a lot of people. One of the waltz Vienna Blood was composed as a mood booster to Vienna after a stock market crash. LOL

Strauss Family, Roses from the South; Eljen a Magyar; 1,001 Nights; Furioso Polka; Egyptian March; Unter Donner und Blitz; Banditen Galopp; Wiener Blut; Saat und Ernte; Schleier und Krone; Perlen der Liebe; Morgenblatter; Tritsch-Tratsch; Kaiser March; Vienna Bonbons; Fata Morgana; Hunt; Annen Polka; Blue Danube; Ohne Sorgen; Cachucha + 7 Other Titles. Re: Freddy and Mathman

Goldberg. I knew that! Yes. Goldberg.

So I get half a tower of Hershey's kisses because I knew the prodigy (Goldberg) and the song (Goldberg Variations). I didn't actually say Variations, but you knew what I meant.

Now here is another Goldberg trivia question: What Olympic gold medal winner was represented by Michelle Kwan's agent, Shep Goldberg?
