I watched him live in Gdansk in October where he had meltdown in FS and couldn't even imagine that he would get bronze at JW But I am really happy he got it. He is the most busy skater this season and the JW medal is a kind of reward for his great approach at Olympics.

Couldn't be happier to see him medal at junior worlds! He's been so busy this season, nice to see a good ending to it (although worlds is coming soon.) I missed his fs, though, does anyone know where I can watch it? It seems like it was blocked on youtube, likely cause of the music.

That’s odd. YouTube usually just censors the audio; there’s actually a version of his FS uploaded in which the first and last parts of the medley are muted, but not the middle (the instrumental) (which tells you exactly how “smart” the algorithm for checking for obvious copyright fouls is). If worse comes to worst, I’ll try sharing via Google Drive or something.

Still amazed he managed four clean skates at the Olympics. Honestly, had never heard of him until then, but he won me over in the team event and I’ve been jokingly calling myself his One Superfan since. Would love to see him finish top ten at worlds, but that’s a huge ask and pretty much impossible without upgrading his technical content.

I have no idea if he’s training quads, but, really, he has (most) of the everything else at a level some of the big six don’t (really good sense of music, skating skills are clearly there, etc.), so I’m excited to see what he does in the following years. Beatles/Elvis/etc. programs usually send me running, but he actually manages to work his somehow... he clearly loves to skate and loves his program, and that’s such a welcome thing in the midst of warhorses, angst at max amp, and the tech race. Just lovely skating with genuine joy. I like this kid

I've seen almost all of his other free skates, but for whatever reason I just can't find an unblocked one from JWC this year, maybe it's just a matter of time before someone uploads a version without audio, I'll probably just wait until then.

I had never even heard of him until the Olympics this year either, but as soon as I saw him free skate in the team event I could see that he had really great potential (that's when I started watching his previous programs), and like you said, he has a great sense of music. His programs seemed more emotional to me, like he really appreciated the music he was skating to. He managed to make something really fun to watch, even if it wasn't as technically difficult as other skaters. Sometimes, I really hate that quads have such a high base value, because I'd much rather see a perfect triple axel than watch someone fall on any quad. But, I get it. And, in an interview he mentioned that he was training quads so I'm really hoping to see him land a quad on Olympic ice in a few years! It's just nice to see him getting recognition for working so hard.

You and I sound like twins! I think he’s doing great for coming straight out of juniors — four clean skates at the Olympics is crazy! I’m still impressed by that, honestly.

And that’s why I jokingly call him BabyMaleCaro (that and his skating skills).

It’s also part of why I like his skating and goes toward why, I think, the joy of skating transfers in his performances — he really is connected to his music in ways some skaters aren’t (hey, everyone has different gifts, and it’s not a value judgment) and it shows up in the nuances of his choreography. I was surprised to hear he was only 19 and just out of juniors during the team event, because he skates with far more maturity and understanding of his music than “just left juniors” implies.

I kind of hope he follows Kostner in terms of having a long skating career, because I think he has extremely solid fundamentals, huge potential in terms of artistry, and then whatever he decides to reach for on the technical side is up to him. There are very few skaters I truly become a “fan” of and let myself get invested in, but Rizzo definitely is in that group. Whether or not he ends up being a top competitor... I see no reason why he can’t be in time, especially assuming all the rumours regarding the new judging system hold true, but regardless, I could watch his step sequences on infinite loop. Especially the one from his short at junior worlds. That was the best iteration of it I’ve seen yet... how he didn’t get higher marks for it is something I will never understand

I am so so so proud of Matteo for skating such a tiring schedule this season, and for skating beautifully all the way through it! Can’t wait to see his FS tomorrow, which is probably my favorite out of any competitor

Any word on how Matteo's training has been going this summer? It'll be great to see him at the Lombardia Trophy in September.
