Max Aaron

It's not my video, but the place I found it just grabs videos from all over anyway (including my own), so I uploaded it unlisted here:

Max's SP (Apologies for the poor quality, it's the best I've come across so far... well, only thing I've come across so far. )

Oh, I am liking this.

Sure, there are some rough spots that need to be ironed out, but this is dramatic and powerful.

It suits him better than any program in the past two years. His musicality has improved a lot.

Ahhhh I just love it!!
It suits him so well!!!

ETA Is it just me or does it look like his SS have improved 300% just since Nationals?

I've been grinning like a fool all day since seeing the video. I once thought that, for him, nothing would top Tron for being suited to him - but this may yet do so. And if it is already this wonderful at this point in the season, I've got the shivers thinking about how wonderful it will be in another four or five months' time!

I'm floating, almost! Now I can't wait for the new Black Swan LP. After seeing the magic Phillip and Max have woven with Nessun Dorma, I have every confidence that Black Swan is also going to be incredible.

Phillip Mills is really a good choreographer. He does such a nice job of matching the music to the skater. This sp really works for Max!!

That's it. I'm laying it down right here right now: Max Aaron 2016 US National Champion.

The Black Swan is AMAZING.

We thought this year's Nationals last men's group was amazing? Next year's is going to destroy us all.

It's not just you - I also think his SS look much improved. With time this should be a great program for him. Good for Max!

Thanks @sabinfire for the SP link. I really enjoyed it despite the quality issues.
It's really classy that they've chosen a version of Nessun Dorma where Pavarotti is singing. Makes a huge difference in my perception of the SP. :)

Hey, Karne!

Do you remember the first time we watched Jason do Riverdance? And we knew, even though it was clearly a work in progress, that it would be a sensation?

I get exactly the same vibe from Max's Nessun Dorma. Exactly. This is a performance with vocals that enhances his best qualities and showcases his artistic improvements.

I haven't seen his LP yet, but if it is in the same league, this could be Max's breakout season, even more than his NC Season.

Max's post-FS quotes from USFS fanzone (cross-posting from the WTT Men's FS thread):

This is the first time ever internationally I’ve gotten 75 points for my program components. Obviously that’s not good enough to be a world champion or world medalist but I’m on my way. At this event, I wanted to do whatever I could to help the team but I also had a goal for myself to put out good components. I talk about them a lot. I put in the time and effort to do what I can to improve. It’s a long and tedious process for me because it doesn’t come naturally to me but I’m looking forward to continuing that challenge.

If you liked Max's Nessun Dorma (as I did :)), his Black Swan today will really knock your socks off :yay:.
Undeniable indicator that he has taken a quantum leap forward in his ongoing efforts at artistic improvements :).

oh yes, he's more artistic now.. I think next season is gonna be awesome for him! I hope so! He's so lovely..

OK. Back after seeing Black Swan.

I would NEVER have chosen this music for Max, but whoever did is a genius. Max shows incredible growth over last season.

I am very excited about both of his programs, and can't wait to see them progress through the season.

I hope Max does the US Classic this year. I'd love to see where they are in a few months.

One thing I hope doesn't change: The Haircut. The haircut contributes to a much more mature and controlled look on the ice. He looks like a man now, and not a hipster that just stumbled out of Starbucks.

I realize these are probably placeholder costumes... I know I've seen the SP outfit before... but I hope the final costumes are equally "edited." Less is more. Much more.

All in all, I'm wild about this more grown-up Max.

Dropping by here to say, this was one of the highlights of WTT for me.
I'm not exactly a fan of the American men, But Jason Brown wowed me tonight with his FS... and so did Max. I never thought I'd say (or typ) that, gee. That Black Swan, I must not have seen it before this season, because it didn't ring any bells, but woah, PERFECT for him. What a shame I missed his other performances (?) of it. Well done, Mr. Aaron.

Max repurposed costumes from the 2013-14 season for both his SP and FS at WTT. So he was wearing his Carmen costume for his Black Swan program.
I expect that he will have new ones by the time of the Challenger series.

And not to worry, "less is more" has been very much Max's own modus.
LOL, I'm recalling how he insisted on yanking the stones off  of his West Side Story costume right before the FS at the very first US Classic.

I have mixed feelings about #TheHaircut.
No question that Max is a handsome guy :) no matter how his hair looks. And I think his closely cropped hair is fine.
That said, his strong features and intensity would be flattered by some curls, IMO. I myself didn't mind last season's longer curls, but I'd love to see him try shorter curls that are not smushed down with product. (As if I know anything about hair .)

In any case .... I am so happy for Max! He has been saying all along that his goal is to be a complete skater. With these two new programs, he is making good headway .

I do remember! And we already knew. And I feel exactly the same way about both of Max's new programs - the Nessun Dorma short and the Black Swan long! I had been hoping someone else felt that way about them, and that it wasn't only me getting carried away!

If he is going to try curls again, they need to be all over (no short-sides and mop top like he tried like season, oh dear), but they need to not get in his eyes, and there needs to be no product at all, because even his long curls at Skate Canada looked lank and greasy.

I prefer short-haired Max - I have long hoped he would go back to the style he wore when he took that first National title, or even the style he was wearing at WTT that year, which was shorter at the sides, but not curly on top.

Of course, he is handsome no matter how his hair is cut

I had to come and gush some more - I can't get over how much Max has improved in 3 months and how amazing his new programmes are, particularly the long. I mean he's doing freaking fouettes and they're beautiful! Who'd have thunk it?

I'm with you Karne, I think Max might very well repeat as national champion next year!
