Max Aaron

Worlds team just named. Adam, Max, and Nathan.

I'm going to get to see our SnuggleBat in person.

*tries to smile*

Guess I can order that stuffie now.

If you need a smile - and I sure did - the medal ceremony is worth it to watch.

A few moments where the smile falls away he looks sad, but mostly lots of smiles, laughs, and him and Adam being very huggy.

My favourite part is where Max has to arrange Adam, Nathan and Grant properly for the photo

The first still image here is part of the snuggliness :) on the podium:

And agree 100% that the part when Max plays stage manager getting the others into position was adorable.

(The IN video requires a subscription, BTW. I hope the ceremony is on YT as well -- but I haven't looked for it.)

Video of Max's FS is on the NBC website.

Hat tip to sabinfire for flagging that more videos were added there.

Happy for Max that he achieved his goal of making the team for Worlds :yay:.
And that he will get to perform this year's programs at Four Continents as well as in Boston.

And excited for you, karne, that you will get to see Max in person :dance2:.

Love the tweets about Max taking the time to give lots of personal attention to fans in the crowd. Very admirable.

And as karne said, he was very sweet on the podium with the others.
Body language at the post-FS presser also very supportive of Adam and Nathan -- patting them on the arm, etc.

We don't call him SnuggleBat :luv17: for nothing.

Found this on Youtube - Max's exhibition.

Clearly SnuggleBat was very tired and maybe a bit sad. Those 3A spills could have been nasty but at least he got up smiling. I can't lie though, I wanted to scream when he did the 3F. Just one of those in place of a 2A...

Max posted this poignant photo from his experience at U.S. Nationals: https://www.instagram.com/p/BA_D0uio2CZ/. That is a pretty impressive Getty Images photo. Some of the Getty photos of skaters in competition have been hit or miss, but this one is great.

Thx for posting :).
The photo is great, but outshone by Max's beautiful message, IMO. Making me emotional :sad4: all over again.

What a weekend!!! Absolutely had a blast performing in front of an amazing crowd and skating with so many warriors! Congratulations to all the men for putting on a tremendous display of skill! Lucky to be a part of something so special! The men are pushing the limits in all different ways! Thank you for all the support! : 2016 Getty Images

"The men are pushing the limits in all different ways!" Love how Max shows respect and appreciation for all of his competitors. Class act.

Ummm ... Max is one of the skaters "quoted" (? ;)) on the Wayfair site. (The others are Scimeca and Chock.)

I take it as a positive sign of Max's popularity that Wayfair wanted to use his name.

So pls don't get me wrong: I am not criticizing Max for cooperating with a big USFS sponsor. (Maybe he did not even have a choice.)
And I apologize if I am underestimating you, Max. But I can't help being a little amused  at the thought of these exact words coming out your own mouth.

Although we have seen Max looking elegant in his double-breasted suit, etc., I wouldn't expect him to spend much time pondering whether gold is a good color for a dress.

LOL, would have been more believable (IMO) if Wayfair printed a comment from him about the giant fuzzy white pillow, which really is one of the items on its post-Nats sale page. (I suppose that Alexa's quote about that pillow could be the reason that the PR-speak about something else was attributed to Max.)

Repeating my post from The Edge:

Sweet anecdote re the Aarons and Mama Rippon in St. Paul :):

... It was nice at the end of the men's free skate Sunday to see Max Aaron walk into the stands in his skates to hug his family. Adam Rippon's mother, Kelly, was with them, and everyone was teary and happy....

Congratulations to both families :ghug:.

Have been meaning to catch up and post some other links and nice bits re Nats that I came across .... will try to do so eventually.

What would be really neat (and more relevant to Wayfair as a company, they seem to be primarily about home furnishings) is if they picked someone who lives on their own and did a profile where they were able to furnish their home with a few of their items. That would be really cool - especially since for so many, this is the first time they have lived away from their parents.

I put together all the interviews & fluff I could find from the broadcast:

https://youtu.be/OCYThbK0fEw ...

(Max interview at 3:18. Bumper clip at 5:40.)

Thx to sabinfire  for assembling this video from the NBC broadcast of the Skating Spectacular at US Nats.

Includes another short interview with Max (conducted by Andrea Joyce).
It was funny  that NBC started the bumper footage with the sneakers that are recognizable to most of us in the thread. The upward panning shot that was supposed to be a big reveal simply "revealed" ;) the face that we were expecting.
In any case, it was nice that Max was playing around backstage and hamming it up in a relaxed way -- not long after the pressure cooker of the free skate.

Found this on Youtube - Max's exhibition...

Breaking ;) news, I think(?):
Max choreographed this ex program himself, per Johnny Weir's commentary on the NBC broadcast.
I hadn't known that.

This is DEFINITELY news to me  I had no idea! Looks like Mr Mills has unleashed Max's creative side! ;)

Oh god yes those shoes - though I must admit even if you were not a keen SnuggleBat observer and didn't recognise the shoes, as soon as they got to the thighs I think that might have given it away. :o:

Isn't more common for skaters to chereograph their exhibitions though? Hasn't Jeremy Abbott, Jason Brown, & Josh Farris designed every exhibition they've had for years? I figured most would - it saves money and it's easier to do when you aren't creating a program with all those judged elements.

It is a first for Max, as far as karne and I know -- thus our reaction of pleasant surprise.

I know that you are a Jason fan (as am I), so I will ask:
When Jason lands his first clean quad in competition, will you yawn and point out that it has not been uncommon for other skaters to land clean quads in competition?
Or will you be excited?
I know that I will be excited. It will be a first for Jason, and I will be happy to applaud him. YMMV.

Re skaters and exhibition choreo:

I did not know that Jason ever has choreographed any of his own exhibitions. Which ones??
Disclaimer: I am a Jason fan, but not a Jason expert.

Josh and Jeremy have been choreographers of record even for their own competitive programs.
In terms of involvement and experience in choreo, they obviously are light-years ahead of most other skaters (not limited to Max).

It might be "more common" for skaters to choreograph their own exhibitions, but that doesn't mean that it is "common."
Out of ignorance, I will ask: Did Evan ever choreograph his own exhibitions? Has Patrick ever done so? Ashley, Mirai, Gracie, Ross, Richard, Grant??

Regardless of the answers, I still think it's cool  that Max has choreographed something for himself. YMMV.

I am always excited to see a skater land any jump, but especially a jump they have never landed before.

For some reason, I always thought that most skaters did at least most of the work designing their exhibition programs. Mainly because like earlier, I figured that it is A LOT easier to do than putting together a program when you have to include X numbers of jumps, spins, footwork, etc.

Back to Max choreographing a program for himself, remember when skaters on Team USA were asked in Sept. 2013 what song they would skate to if they could: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o0LnZIU-WVs.

I liked most of their answers (I felt that Meryl Davis' Scheherazade answer was missing the question, though), but Max said that he would pick a rap song. I wonder if he likes Macklemore. I think he could be really great with a program to a Macklemore song or medley (with the right music cuts, of course).

Many thanks to our friend sabinfire for uploading Max's exhibition from the NBC broadcast of the Skating Spectacular:

Correcting myself: It was Tara, not Johnny, who said that Max choreographed his own program.
Sorry that I originally got the attribution wrong :hopelessness:.

But it was definitely Johnny :) who empathized with Max that skating in tight jeans is not easy.
