Max Aaron

Today's the day, you guys! Just a couple of hours until we see the SnugglaDor in action for the first time!

And Jackie's practice reports sound great - he didn't miss a thing!

Another good omen:

Charlie White just said on the Ice Desk webcast that he thought the bullfighter theme was a great idea for Max :).

Go, Max :yay:.

Dang it all. Tough outing for Snuggle Bullfighter. :console: Fight back in the free Max. You can do it.

God, the look on his face. Please hold strong, SnuggleBat. Please.

The worst part? The new SP is so damned good.

The SP is good and I love the costume.

The costume...my poor sister I was sitting with knew he was on screen when I fell into raptures of joy. It's so beautiful and it makes him look even handsomer than ever. I love the costume, I love the program...and that hurts so bad right now.

Very sleek, wonderful costume. I'm still stunned over his results. It was like the air went out of the arena after his second fall. So disappointing for him.

I had to watch it again. I had to try and understand. I still don't.

But you guys...I watched it again, and I closed my eyes when he jumped and just watched the rest...this program makes me feel like Joshua's debut of Give Me Love. If you remove the disasters from your watching...it is wonderful. It's such a good program.

I also really like the program as a program, I think it suits Max perfectly. The mistakes were heartbreaking, especially since he's so far back now. I hope he fights in the long.

Sending hugs, hugs, hugs, hugs, hugs to #MatadorMax ... as you move onward and upward to the FS. Always proud of you :ghug:.

Am just checking in here to see if you're alright, ice coverage. Relieved a little to see you're sounding positive, still a huge :ghug: to you. :) My hubby and I will be rooting for him BESIDES you in our heart the whole time during his FS.

Goooo Max! :cheer:

deedee, a giant hug :ghug: back to you and Mr. deedee.
You both are incredibly sweet to think of me .. as well as of our dear Max.
Really appreciate your post and friendship :thank:.

My heart goes out to Max, and your post made me cry :sad4:.
But I hope that he has woken up feeling that today is a brand-new day. I am trying to focus on the same.

I admire Max so much  for pushing himself to become a better performer.
I hope he knows that he has a lot of support -- in Japan  as well as in the U.S.
Fingers crossed for him to have a good free skate, and for the crowd in the arena to show The Lion King some love.

Go, Max :yay:.

Okay. So 12th looks bad. Like, really bad. BUT!

The reason he's 12th is because there are so many skaters bunched up around the same scores. Jason is in 4th with 79 points; Max is in 12th with 72. That's eight skaters squashed into seven points. And Max has a much bigger base value for the free than almost all of those eight skaters - even Jason, who may struggle with his injury. It is not out of the realm of possibility that our SnuggleLion could wind up with a pewter medal out of all this. Maybe even a bronze if, god forbid, something happened to Ross or Vincent. I am sure he will fight as hard as he always does!

Much as I hate TSL (and I'm sure Dave was all kinds of gleeful about yesterday), they have provided a video of the mixed zone - which opens with our dear SnugglaDor facing up to what has just happened. I must warn you, the expression on his face is rather shattering: but he accepts no excuses, owns his mistakes, and looks on to the short.

(Even the USFS guy(?) with the silver mike looks like Max's brutal honesty is a bit much for him.)

Positive: close-up shots of the sparkle details on the jacket. Very pretty. I love this costume so much.

Max's post-FS interview, conducted by Coughlin:

Aaron's 2017 U.S. Champs Interview (FS)
Watch Max Aaron talk backstage with John Coughlin after the free skate at the 2017 U.S. Figure Skating Championships.

Non-exhaustive recap:
Max was very straightforward and humble -- resigned to reality, and thus understandably subdued, but not down in the dumps to the point of raw emotion.
Some wry humor about his Hail Mary jump.
Coughlin asked about Max's hernia surgery. Max said he couldn't use his stomach for most of the season ... after expecting a recovery period of only two weeks. Kept it quiet b/c he didn't want sympathy; didn't want people to care about it. [Ohhhh, Max :sad4: :ghug:.]
He's "looking forward to starting off the next season right."

Massive respect to Max . Look forward to cheering for you next season all the more.

You know, of course I'm really disappointed but I take comfort in the fact that Max never gives up, and that he already seems to be moving on from this. It's also nice that USFSA saw their way clear to giving him some of the alternate spots for Worlds and 4CCs... he's far enough down the list that it's not going to matter really, but at least it shows they know he's actually a better bet/skater than a lot of the guys who did finish above him.

Overall this was a rough season. I'm the most sad that I don't think we ever saw the Lion King performed to its potential. Unlike a lot of people on the forum at large I REALLY liked the program concept and thought it could be great.

Ah well. Keep looking forward! Next season will be Max's year!

Big hug to Max's fans. :) We all know that he is a much better skater than what he put out
on the ice this season. I always felt that he was dealing with an injury because of the jump trouble and Max
is an excellent jumper when healthy. Now I know that he had a groin injury and surgery yikes, poor guy.
