Max Aaron

Max's roommate in SLC is Daniel Eaton, who is blogging from the event for ice-dance.com.

.... Landing late last night, I enjoyed the wonderful surprise of walking into my hotel room and discovering my roommate, Max Aaron. Fortunately, he wasn't already asleep, so we did have the chance to catch up, which was nice. Max and I have roomed together before—he was my first roommate on my first international in Courchevel, France. It always seems we have issues with our bathrooms, though. In France, we had no shower curtain for the week, so after showers we had a kiddy pool on the floor. Here in Salt Lake City, the back of our toilet fell off and shattered all over the floor. We just enjoy the excitement of bathroom mishaps. ...

... Lastly, my roommate Max skated to “Footloose,” which was quite cool. Seeing the use of words in freestyle is actually quite great. As dancers, we have always had the opportunity to have lyrics in our music, but this is new for the other disciplines, and it really brings a new vibe to the sport and creates a new style of entertainment for the fans to enjoy. Max's quad was great and his footwork was awesome ....

VIDEO of Max Aaron's Gladiator FS in SLC:

And Max's interview reacting to his FS:

Additional quote from Max Aaron on his FS performance:
It was a push in the right direction. This was about pushing the components out and showing transitions. That was my main goal. I took another fall on something silly, but that’s okay. I’m trying to make things bigger and sometimes that takes me off my balance. I’m learning where those limits are and that’s what it’s going to take.”

Congrats to Max! Beautifully skated FS. I loved everything about this program,
the music, the demanding choreography, the jumps, Max's interpretation of the music
so passionate and taut which did not let up until his ending pose. I am impressed.

(2 x Max) + Maddie = gold + bronze = great SLC photo from @Max_Settlage:

Aaron wins third straight International Classic title
Miner takes silver medal; Razzano finishes fourth; Moeller seventh

Petition against Max for his costumes next season, too sexy to be allowed on the ice.

VIDEO of Max Aaron's Gladiator FS in SLC:

At about 1:43 in it starts to sound a lot like Pirates of the Caribbean.

I thought Max said he was going to get rid of the talking? Maybe this is reduced?

I am not a fan of his stand still to start on both his programs.

He really does seem to be a fan of skin tight pants.

I hope his head does not become his own biggest rival.

I look forward to seeing this when he is more comfortable with it and can really get into and enjoy it.

Yes, parts of Gladiator and POTC sound very alike. I noticed this when watching Yagudin's Gladiator a little while back.

I thought Max said he was going to get rid of the talking? Maybe this is reduced?

They shortened up the talking. Just one line now (I don't know how many before).

I am not a fan of his stand still to start on both his programs.

I think he could start Footloose more energetically, but I think the still start to Gladiator is very dramatic.

He really does seem to be a fan of skin tight pants.

karne refuses to comment on grounds of self-incrimination since that was the first thing she noticed. :o:

I hope his head does not become his own biggest rival.

Agree with this with all my heart. I'm a little worried about the level of his perfectionism...

I look forward to seeing this when he is more comfortable with it and can really get into and enjoy it.

Can't wait for full-ball Footloose. It'll be time to cut loose!

Max's scores in SLC have earned him the following :):

- Four new ISU PBs:
  • Total 240.22
  • SP 78.96
  • SP Component 38.95
  • FS Component 78.80

- Eighth place (for now) in the ISU World Standings for men

... I thought Max said he was going to get rid of the talking? Maybe this is reduced? ...

IIRC, he had said that he was going to get rid of some of the talking.

ETA, the quote from IN:
"Originally, there was more spoken dialogue in the Gladiator program. They suggested we take a section out, and we did. I'm happy with it."

:yay: Go Max!

Aside: I still find it totally mind-boggling that his ISU PB SP score is under 80.

Max received some love today from MK Blades, which added a brief "news" blurb to its site about "his incredible Gladiator routine." :) (But no real news, and only an old photo of West Side Story.)

ETA:

At this late date (Sep 26), a hundred very nice Robin Ritoss photos (off and on ice) from SLC have been posted on the FB page of ISU Figure Skating. Links to those with Max are below. In at least some cases, I do not recall seeing them elsewhere.
