Skater Maxim Naumov, 23, Who Lost Both Parents in D.C. Plane Crash, Now with Family Friends ‘24 Hours’ a Day (Exclusive)

In an interview with PEOPLE, Olympic gold medalist Ekaterina 'Katia' Gordeeva mourned her late teammates Evgenia Shiskova and Vadim Naumov, killed in the Jan. 29 crash. She revealed their son Maxim Naumov, 23, is being supported by a close family friend around the clock.

I think the couple he's staying with are like his godparents, though they could be his actual godparents, assuming Max is Catholic. Katia says they are just like godparents to him, so really perfect for what he needs right now. So happy for him having these great people who love him like a son already!

I have Max's programs from 2024 Nationals and 2025 Nationals, and the 2025 Medal Ceremony. I could have extracted last year's much earlier but didn't, and let's just say that recent events spurred me on. I needed to immerse myself in a happy skating-related project. BONUS! I forgot Max was in the Nationals Gala last year. (And then he found out he was going to 4CC). I don't enjoy listening to this genre of music, but Max's skating to it is nice. Very powerful program.

Max Naumov - 2024 Nationals Gala

NBC/Peacock has not aired this year's Nationals gala. I'm not sure if they will. The word they used was "postponed," as opposed to "canceled," but I wonder if it's actually canceled and we'll never see it. Sigh.

Many years ago, the networks in Canada and the USA used to air their national championship galas weeks later. Often not until a week or two before Worlds, presumably to raise viewer interest in watching that.

If you look at 5:44 in the 2025 Long Program video, is it Jinna Han whom Max is hugging just before he skates off the ice? The person smiling and clapping excitedly right before hugging Max? I think that's Jinna. But I'm not great at recognizing faces and it's a really quick shot. There's a whole group of camper girls standing together in those now-famous red jackets.

EDIT: IT'S NOT JINNA. I'M NOT SURE WHO MAX IS HUGGING, BUT IT'S SUCH A SWEET MOMENT.

That moment is so sweet. It is heartwarming and yet now so sad also.

It is *not* Jinna.
(I was sitting quite close to where this sweet hug took place, and had a good in-person view of it.)

It confused me, too. It has to do with the way the clips were encoded when I extracted them. (I know next to nothing about video and audio codecs, so I'm not sure what the issue is). The videos do have sound (they play with sound on the Dropbox website and mobile app), but for some reason a lot of video players don't like how they were encoded.

Not that I have heard. In fact, he is assigned to Grand Prix France. Things could change though. Recently he's been doing some Stars on Ice shows.

The plan seems to be competing this coming season and I'm all here for it.
He was in Courmayeur Mont Blanc in the past week or two training. He may have just been getting choreo.
