Meagan Duhamel suspended for two weeks

What is so hard about saying to someone, "I'd like a word with you in private." It's not tough. On the other hand, I can't even imagine wasting time talking to anyone except the spouse who allegedly cheated. And a couple of lawyers. End of story. On a side note, I have no idea if one or both spouses cheated. No one knows. As usual, without knowing all facts I don't persecute anyone.

As for Smith, he's a violent jagoff and I watched it happen live. Rock made a joke about G.I. Jane 2 (which film didn't exist) after he saw Jada's shaved head which is what Demi Moore did to her own head when she starred in the original G.I. Jane film. If that joke is enough to warrant assault, good luck in prison. You belong there. Smith ruined the rest of the night for everyone, and refused to leave when asked by those running the show. After refusing to leave, I would have called the police and had him physically removed from the premises.

I like and admire strong women. But for me, a strong woman or man does not publicly make strong verbal accusations to another person but rather approaches them one on one. I don't object to her expressing her feelings but more in the manner in which she expressed those feelings, allegedly, in front of students and others.

I have thought of Meghan as a talented skater but never cared for her personal demeanor. I recall her often "lecturing" her partner after a performance. There is a time to discuss mistakes and ways to correct.

I wish her well in her "new chapter". I can appreciate that she is trying to take a positive spin with her children and that is admirable.

My last word on the Oscars incident: anybody who mocks somebody's medical condition does not deserve any sympathy. They are down there with the lowest of the low.

Just like anybody who cheats does not deserve any sympathy. As @CoyoteChris said, you shouldn't start seeing other people while you are in a relationship. If your relationship isn't working, or if you meet somebody else that you want to be with, end your relationship first, and then move on.

That is the approach that is taken in Pairs Skating and Ice Dance, and it works perfectly well there. You don't have people competing with a new partner while they are still competing with their old partner. Admittedly, we did have an awkward situation recently where somebody started the season with their existing partner, and then switched partners mid-season as soon as the new partner's embargo ended. But although it happened mid-season, it was still a clean move from one partner to the next. There was no going back and forth between partners.

That said, who was it a few years ago whose partner decided to retire from competition, and they continued to skate with their old partner in shows at the same time as they were skating with a new partner in competitions?

Sorry, if the affair partner shows up to my workplace, my Southwest Philly will take over. "Oh please, might we have a word?" I don't think so:laugh:.

And if the kids around hear words they've never heard before, uttered in a manner they've not heard before, well, they've never been to an Eagles game. Or even watched one in a living room. By the time I was eight, there was no word I hadn't heard, and no word I hadn't heard directed in anger at another adult. And I was eight quite some time ago. ;)

How's your little cousin these days? Learning new words? 😂

I guarantee that kids have heard and said way worse on the playground at school or at home to their siblings.
None of us know the specifics of what happened and are mostly assuming and supposing.
It could be entirely unrelated to her personal life.
I'm also not one to act like kids are delicate flowers and absolutely can't be exposed to bad behaviour.
They'll survive and they can learn from it.
I just think it's been made into way too big a deal.

"I'd like a word with you in private."

Is the word "oh" in the sentence? No.
Is the word "please" in the sentence No.

Duhamel said the suspension was for yelling at a colleague at work. That means she put the owners of the rink at risk for losing business when people realize an emotionally unstable employee was on the ice, then potentially spread the word around the city. She's a liability.

Two-time world pairs champion and Olympic gold medalist Meagan Duhamel was suspended for two weeks by Skate Canada in early May 2026 for a "bullying and harassment" incident involving another coach. [1, 2]
Details of the Incident
  • The Action: Duhamel confirmed to Sudbury.com that she "yelled at a colleague at work".

  • Context: According to reporting by Broken Ice, the incident was an on-ice confrontation in the fall of 2025 at Skate Oakville, where she was coaching.
  • Reason: The altercation reportedly involved Duhamel confronting another coach over an alleged inappropriate relationship involving her husband, who was also coaching at the rink.
  • Witnesses: The confrontation occurred while skaters and parents were present. [1, 2, 3]

If someone can't control themselves whether it's Duhamel or Smith - send both of them to jail or mandatory mental health therapy for all I care. If I were one of the rink owners, I would have fired her.

As a labor lawyer. Baloney. (Although I should say I have no clue about Canadian law. In the US, baloney. )

By now, the two weeks that Skate Canada thought this was worth has almost expired, so Meagan is back at Skate Oakville. I hope the other person has the sense to stay away.

In Canada, most (although not all) rinks are owned by the town or city. In those cases, a skating club rents ice time from the city. The coaches are hired by the club and paid by the pupils or their parents, not the city, although the club may handle the business transactions just for the convenience of all. I skate at one city-owned rink where my partner and I rent private hours on one of their six ice sheets. Our coach comes there occasionally for extra work and for those hours we pay her directly, in cash. Otherwise we skate at a private multi-sports club collectively owned by the members, whose elected governing council hires the business manager and staff.

I've heard about rinks in the US where private owners or their management run the skating program and hire and pay the coaches, but don't know much about how that works.

Somewhat :ot:, sorry. Just clarifying that probably, if the rink in Oakville is a city-owned facility, there's no employer-employee relationship at all. And one person arguing loudly with another would not put anyone else off skating there, not in Canada where ice time is precious.

Just like anybody who cheats does not deserve any sympathy.
I didn't see much sympathy for him or for that matter the other woman, and feel none (with the caveat on the latter's side that we do not know the details, hard to see how they might make things less grubby but we don't know. And in my case, don't much care).

Anyway, the suspension will soon be over and as far as I can see it's now old news about three unpleasant people who made their problems other people's as well, sadly common these days.

If any woman cheated with my husband and the father of our children, I'm yell at her too and feel fully justified. As would Millions of other wives / husbands. A suspension for this ridiculous even if it is just 2 weeks.
I dont know if the suspension is ridiculous...I wasnt there...I dont know who it might have effected.
But, I know lots of women who did nothing wrong, got cheated on...divorced...and never took up with another man again. Most men I know of who are widowed/divorced try and find someone else quickly. I found my forever wife the day I was (no fault) divorced from my first wife. But if you are a woman and you and your husband have kids, there is an expectation that your lives will change and the kids come first. And in many cases the woman is the care giver. Its a hard job. And to learn your husband does something as arrogant and cruel as to cheat on you and his girl friend enabled the affair....there is no rational that "my wife isnt my lover anymore...she cut her hair and is tired all the time and put on a few pounds and ignores my needs." I have to side with the women here....and their pain.

You are wrong in stating that Will Smith was asked to leave the Oscar award ceremonies. He was not. Rock had a prior history of publicly snarking on and nastily mocking Jada and Will. Plus, Jada's bald head is the result of alopecia areata, an autoimmune disorder she has been publicly open about since 2018. Jada was in the audience to support her Oscar-nominated husband, not to be made the butt of intentionally meanspirited jokes. There's a long history between the three which involves younger friendly relations that turned sour when Jada chose to marry Will and rejected Rock's affections. It is what it is. But, believe whatever you want, as you will.

ETA:
Despite the Academy putting out a statement the next day in response to public outcries [claiming that Smith was asked to leave], multiple sources who witnessed events at the ceremony state that Will Smith was never formally asked to leave. There were conflicting feelings about what to do among top Academy brass. The producer of the Oscar telecast, Will Packer, ultimately encouraged Will Smith to stay. On television, immediately after the commercial break, actors Denzel Washington, Tyler Perry, and Bradley Cooper were seen quietly talking to Smith, in a comforting way. Cooper even hugged Smith.
