Medvedeva WDs from GPF

I also thought about this that's why earlier I was looking at the rules for Withdrawals and Alternates. I have a feeling that the Russian Fed won't allow Med to 'officially' withdraw so as to stop Satoko from going to the GPF. And yes, it is more on politics. Med will probably just not show up or just show up but eventually announce that she can't skate due to lingering pain.

I don't think the Japanese fans will be too happy about her not formally withdrawing though (if she can't skate)... especially as the finals is in JP and the first alternate is Satoko. We will just see how it goes.
I would say Med is not worried about Satoko, but Zagitova. A clean Satoko will score like <<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<< A clean Zagitova. So Med wants to go to GPF is more like to stop Zagitova's momentum than Satoko,

I don't think that the Russian Federation will force Medvedeva to skate injured just to keep Miyahara out.

Agreed. It would be pretty stupid and petty of them to do that, especially when they've already got a backup in Zagitova (and arguably even Sotskova) to win. Miyahara isn't a particularly huge threat unless she regains her form completely.

I've seen your other posts so I know where you stand about Satoko so I will leave it there. That said, I also prefer Med over Zagitova. We will just see how it goes.

I just hope Med takes time to fully heal as any fracture especially in the ankle is/can be complicated especially if it's not fully healed.

The thing is it has nothing to do with I like or dislike the scores for Satoko. I have nothing against her personally btw.

The truth is: a Zagitova who bombed her SP, fall, step out, UR... still scored 151 for her LP. Image the scores Zagitova will get once she skates clean back to back. I would say it will be very close to Med's personal best. And Zagitova does not have to worry about Lutz or Flip edge. Her scoring potential is very alarming for Med. And if she does well GPF, the momentum will put Zagitova on the same level with Med. I would say it is totally logical for Med to worry over Zagitova than Satoko.

I don't think Satoko is necessarily a huge threat to Evgenia or Alina, but she definitely is to Maria (and I don't think we should underestimate how hard Japan is willing to go to bat for Satoko - she got no URs at Skate America.) Plus, there's a huge rivalry between Russia and Japan on the GP (and JGP). The decision would be for the prestige of the federation, not how threatened or not Evgenia is. I would feel very bad for Japanese fans though. If I was Rusfed, I wouldn't want to make them mad.

Momentum-wise, if she's not at full strength, Evgenia should absolutely withdraw. Losing to Alina here would be devastating for her momentum. Alina suddenly becomes the star. If she withdraws, she doesn't risk getting beaten while injured. Alina still gains momentum, but Evgenia remains unbeaten by her.

Exactly what I think

JSF want to bet on Miyahara but they’re not crazy to put Med and Zagitova down to boost Miyahara. Sotskova being Russia no.3 will always be put down below Japan No.1 and Canada No.1, it’s her being the 3rd Russian thus easier to put down.

It’s very difficult for Med with Zagitova going up and up though. If Med isn’t at GPF, judges will likely to give Zagitova 78 for SP if she’s clean and 155 for clean LP. It might happen. If Med is at GPF and skates clean she might keep her momentum but only God knows how if she can be healthy at top form by Olympic if she does that.

I lurve the idea of RSF having Med go there only to withdraw right before the SP just so that the 1st alternate won't be able to compete! So devious, yet so strategic! LOL. If anything, it will enhance Wakaba's reputation if she medals. But this isn't a Med v. Zag thing. If Zag wins w/o Med it will only increase Zag's reputation going into Olys but still keep Med's reputation intact. If Med shows up still not fully healed and loses to Zag would be worse for Med at Olys. And who's to say Med doesn't fully heal by Olys, now the RSF has GPF champion Zag going in as top dog with .top favorite status in case Med can't pull it off at Olys. It's not about Satoko being competition for Sotskova (who I think will be third woman at Olys). It's diminishing Satoko's reputation/momentum just in case. Kind of brilliant if you ask me. They would do the same thing if Gaby was 1st alternate to GPF too. Let's see how this plays out....

Medvedeva and Zagitova will compete against each other 2 times for sure (Nationals, Europeans) before Olympics, so it really doesn't matter if it happens at GPF lol its gonna happen sooner or later

I'm still hoping Zhenya is not going to skate but the way it looks now, I think it's quite likely that she will.

One thing about facing Alina now, instead of the Nats, or Europeans, is that she has the opportunity to perhaps somewhat halt the swelling up of Alina's PCS. If she doesn't show, Alina goes clean, she'll get showered with even more with PCS candies. The thing Zhenya is aware of, I am sure, is that at Nats they will go up, and if that momentum hits, by the time we are at the Olympics, and Alina is scoring 75, then with Alina's superior TES, it's a done deal anyway.

But competing so soon against her, might, might, halt that progress. Of course, it all depends on her state, and if she can be clean because she must be, in order for any of this to perhaps work. I am sure it is Alina that is pushing Zhenya to consider competing, and no one else. The big risk is her health, so I am sure she'll be weighing those careful because not only can she not afford to aggravate that injury, she cannot afford to lose. WDing is still a way way better option.

Satoko isn't even on Zhenya's radar. Or Alina's. Not to mention, there's no reason Zhenya would want to protect Sotskova. If anything, even with Fed push, it suits her group more to have Sotskova beaten because otherwise at Nats, Polina has no chance at all.

GPF is one of the major competitions that help with the PCS rising. In fact if Medvedeva is there, she will be seen as No.1 contender, thus other Pcs inflation might be slow down.

yeah but if she sets a trend of finishing behind her...

Even if Zagitova ended in every competition behing Medvedeva, it doesn’t mean anything for the Olympics. The last Olympics Lipnitskaya beat Sotnikova at GPF and Europeans, and yet it was Sotnikova who ended up with the gold medal. This isn’t ice dance, where the reputation matters much more.

Sorry folks I don't have time to go through the thread right now. Can someone tell me if Med is back on the ice training full out?

I agree. It would be quite ludicrous ... I think it will depend on Evgenia, Eteri (and hopefully on her health as their priority).

Yulia fell on her sp and that's where it all went down. The key to success is being in top form and performing clean.

They said she has returned to training, but to which degree is unknown.

Oh the drama! But I still don't understand the injury is it an ankle? Foot? It just seems odd people expect Med toskate with such a major injury.

She has a fracture on the metatarsal one of her right foot. It's not a major injury and normally heals by itself with periods of rest of 1/2 months, but it is bad for a skater, especially because of the period of rest.
