Men's Free

I think the skaters know full well that their scores are inflated at Nats, but just enjoy seeing those big numbers.
I agree and that goes for ALL the Nats at ALL countries.

There is no cheating in summing up the base scores. This, of course, is the decision of the Technical Specialist who could be the culprit in skullduggery.

The only thing that matters is the medal. In this case, did Evan deserve the win? Was Evan's base scores better than Johnny's? One can not cheat on the base scores - only the Tech Asst can. His word is gospel! Not even Flatt can change Meissner's 3x3.

For international competitions, the base scores do not change for any competitor. Evan, the Two World bronze medalist, has the top elements, otherwise he was 'held up' in Russia (Johnny's second home) or in Calgary. I think not. Given an honest Technical Assistant, we will go to the GoEs and discuss the fine tuning of the elements which, of course, could be full of inflated additional points. But above all in judging any skater, it is the best one that night.

As far as I can see the international judges like Lysacek just fine. The only skaters they have placed above him in major competitions in the last couple of years are Plushenko, Lambiel, Buttle and Joubert.

Plushenko is not competing this year, we don't know what Lambiel's status is, Buttle has skated only once, Joubert may or may not bring 3 quads but does he have anything else? Takahashi is on a roll, based on his (inflated?) scores at NHK and Japanese Nationals.

If Evan can nail that quad I don't see any reason why he won't be in the mix.

Grouping judges whether national or internatioal is saying that they get together and decide who they like to place third. This is collusion which I do not seem to think exists under the CoP. Much too cumbersome to regulate, but hey, where there's a will there is a way.

Evan's skill has never surpassed Plushenko, Lambiel, Joubert, and Takahashi

 Not true. Evan did beat Joubert and Takahashi last year at the Olympics, and at the 2005 Worlds too. And he did beat Lambiel by a large margin when they were Juniors at the Worlds (only to speak of major events). Check your facts.

People may say that because Johnny didn't get the gold, so Evan and Ryan got the blame. I think it's not.
Oh, IT IS. It's so obvious (and bad)... :sheesh:

Sorry, I didn't follow his junior competitions. Good for him! About the Olympics and the Worlds, I don't think it's fair to compare one's bad performance with another one's good performance. In general, I think Joubert and Takahashi's skating skills are better than Evan's. Joubert has consistent, great quality quad jumps plus as equally good as Evan's artistic ability. Takahashi has inspiring artistic ability, much better than Evan's, and as equally good as Evan's quad. Did Evan beat Lambiel in any senior competition? Maybe I missed something. Lambiel's Jumps, spins, and the skills in general is superior compared with Evan's ( Except the triple axle, of course).

About the second comment you made, I don't even have to say anything. Please go back and read my previous post carefully. Thank you!

Takahashi and Oda though have hit a new level this year, and would have been contenders with Worlds in any country this year, but with Worlds in Japan they become even heavier favorites. So in addition to atleast 2 of the 4 names you listed, maybe 3(if Lambiel shows)you have to add those 2 as well. Oda's GOE scores were at another level then Evan's at Skate America even, imagine what the difference will be at Worlds in Japan.

You ask if Joubert brings anything else but quads, but his PCS internationaly are higher then Evan's or Oda's(in the long program), and as high as Takahashi's, Lambiel's, and Buttle's. Not sure about his other elements, but I think his spins generaly score well. Whether her brings much else or not he gets the scores.

You say the international judges like Evan just fine? Sure they do but they also sure as heck wont be dishing out 11 points on GOE points or lots of low 8s in the PCS marks as was the case at U.S Nationals. Takahashi's inflated scores at Japanese Nationals, and to a much lesser extent at NHK, are more likely to hold true at Worlds for him as Worlds are in Japan.

It's only the US Nationals. Why get worked up on the international scene. BTW, it seems with the term skating skills, you prefer Joubert's spinning more than Lysacek's and tell me more about Joubert's changes of tempo in music?
