Johnny Weir's FS music is the worst thing in the world to listen to when you are already incredibly nervous for him. It made my heart race! It's beautiful but in this situation it really put me on edge.

I have been hoping for 2 years that Jeff gives a clean performance of Ararat. The one that came close to this performance was I believe the debut of this program at 2007 Canadians. In the half empty arena in Halifax, he had the whole audience spellbound. I still remember the tremour I felt in the arena.

Congratulations, Jeff fans including Ladskater. I remember who started a Jeff appreciation thread right after the Nationals when Jeff lost his title and everybody pretty much wrote him off.

A true champion, but a sore loser. Reportedly he was being interviewed by French TV and was quite ticked off to not have won, and being beaten by someone who "doesn't attempt difficulty in his program".... So sayeth Brian, who only went for one triple axel and two combos (and one being a wussy 2A-1T). Whatever.

Congrats Jeff and Johnny!

He should be happy he got those PCSs and shut up. Buttle does everything better than Joubert except jump.

I just got out of bed and went to my computer with shaking hands to check the results, convincing myself that I wouldn't be too disappointed if Jeff only managed to hang on for 4th or 5th place.....never even daring to hope that he would win the whole thing. My jaw dropped and the tears started coming when I saw the results. Winning with both a victory in the short and the long programs.....this has made my whole day!!!!! Best result ever! And to hear that he did it with a great, rather than a so-so skate is fantastic! Over the moon, absolutely over the moon.

Your discription was EXACTLY mine. I never expected him to win the whole thing. I figured he'd MAYBE hang on for a medal, but to become champion. Wow. As for Joubert, I am not impressed with his attitude...

Oh Brian...

You know, Brian is basically the pot calling the kettle black with his comments. Sure he has a "slight" edge on jumps, but when you look at his protocols for the spins and footwork, his levels were mostly lower than Jeffrey's (who btw. had 2 level 3 step sequences, and level 4s on all his spins).

Well, Daisuke screwed up the second Axel and the second Quad and probably forgot that the screwed-up jumps count as a sequence, because he already completed them as solo jumps.

Probably the same with Carriere and Chan - I expected that Daisuke might have enough experience but I guess it's hard to think on your feet. After Johnny only did the double Toe after the second Triple Axel - he seemed to be thinking constantly where to tack on that Triple Toe. Perhaps that caused the rather shaky landings on the last two jumps.

I don't know who I am more excited for, Jeffrey for winning the Gold or Johnny for the Bronze. I am very happy for all of the medal winners. Jeff because he was written off as a has been, Johnny for getting his first world Medal and for Brian who overcame his illness to place second. Job well done guys. Can 't wait to see this on T.V.

Joubert actually had a good skate, and he looked really comfortable in it (except for the final combination) — I think he lost because of arrogance. He counted Buttle out and thought his real competitors had already made enough mistakes that he didn't need another quad. On any other night, had Jeff not skated as he did, Joubert's skate certainly COULD have been the gold medal winner and I don't think anybody would have complained. But as demonstrated by the above post, he underestimated what Buttle could score technically.

I got home just in time to watch Jeff's LP and all I have to say is :thumbsup: and ! Sometimes a few smilies really are worth a thousand words.

I can't comment on any of the other guys yet since I haven't seen their programs, but regardless of how anyone else skated, this is definitely a huge personal victory for Jeff! He certainly couldn't have skated those two programs any better and congratulations to him!

OK. Congratulations, the city of Sudbury and Sudbury Figure Skating Club from Eastern Ontario (Ottawa)! Remember Patrick was born in Ottawa. He will do the folks in Ottawa proud in the next Worlds and the Olympics. :agree:

Btw, Is Jeff's mum a British? On CBC interview before Jeff's LP, she has a very strong British accent.

Well, I can understand the comments of Joubert (emotions, emotions seized the tough quadruple man), but what the girl was unsatisfied with?

I´m very happy for the three medalists and for the great performances by Buttle and Joubert, WOW!!! Weir´s performance was clean but not impressive, as he was 5th in the freeskate and managed to sneak in onto the podium only because Verner, Lambiel and Takahashi bombed.

Buttle´s win shows that a guy without a quad can win, if one has a great choreography with enough elements and difficulty. Weir has to learn, that skating just a clean programme is not enough for a win.
